Test rode the 2009 Yamaha R1

Work died out about 12 pm , so I decided to Motorycle shop. Test rode the R1, its on my list for a next bike.
The ergo Turned out to be usable(seat comfy), but the bike puts out so much heat, my Feet were on fire , my thighs were on fire, and I could feel the heat uder the seat, just way to much heat to be enjoyable, so that bike is crossed off the list.
I did really appreciate the test ride though, it aided me alot, before I laid down money.

Looks like cbr 1000 or zx 10 ,, any comment on those two?

I  have an '11 C BR1000RR as well as my viffer, awesome bike, ergos are OK but I fitted lower pegs which helped a lot as I have long legs.
Havent done any other mods to it, no need to IMO

I noticed the CBr is a tighter riding position than the R1, seat to peg comfort is on my agenda also. Hows the heat to the rider compared to your VFR?

I  cant say I notice any heat issues with it, about the same as the VFR. With buell footpegs the seat to peg is almost the same as the VFR.
I would have preferred the yamaha crossplane crank engine but the dealers here were doing good deals on the '11 model blade and I got the RWB HRC colours which I really like.
The only minor beef is that it is a noisy engine, especially at idle due to the gear driven balance shaft and low crankshaft mass, but that is improving with more Ks on it.
Its not a touring bike though, but its OK for 300-400ks at a stretch. Fuelling is faultless and economy is better than the VFR.

The Motor sound on the R1 does not impress me at all, sounds like a Redneck open piped 4 banger, Much rather have the Inline 4 sound.

Honda makes alot of motor noise, humm.  Id rather have a Honda than a Kaw, but I think the layout room on the Kaw is more similar to the R1(i like), I will ride both at some point. They cost too much nowadays to gamble, and the older I get the pickier.
