4 Guys, 3 Bikes and a race

So in begining of June, I (far right in upper pic) got a pm form Douglasthecook (Doug, second from left in upper pic) it was time to start to plan the 2012 edisson of the WSBK in Nurburgring that was September 7th to 9th. As I found out it was possible for me to go, thro not by bike this time, I seatled for to fly down by airplane. Also the Dutch boys Dutchy (far left in upper pic) and V4Rosso (second from right in upper pic) informed they would come, whit bikes thro. Fortunally one of the bikes still had their pillion pegs....

So Friday I headid to the airport by car in +8C and rain and did fly doww to the Frankfut-Hanh airport where weather was a nice +22c and sunny. The boys did pik me up by truck, as I had a bag that didnt fit on a bike.
Next morning we did some work on the bikes to be ready, some new(used) coils andsparkplug caps for Dougs frankenviffer, and new mirrors for the redslut

Then we headed for the track where the seats had this wiew:

At the back of the Mercedes tribute where we had the seat, Ducati had a stand where you could also test how to wheelie

After checking out some practise, we did head for the pits, and se how sticky the rubbers where

We headed back to see at the 600cc superstock race, this time from a diffrent tribute, as saturday didnt have any seats marked:

It was a tight first corner:

Next day was the main race day. We did miss the superstock 1000cc and pit walk for some reasons, but the ride to the track was nice, and I had the camera at had this time. The redslut followed kindly:

They had us pull ower, but the redslut passed the inspection, as did V4Rossos stock 3rd gen, but...

Dougs exhaust was not one they liked, the DB killer was not in there, so he got a warning ticket. Thy didnt like that I tock some pics. The police far left freaked out as I looked how the pic turned out, as he belived I tock a pic after he forbidded me.

A we made it to the track, we headed to the pit:

Sadly I did miss the race as I was shopping some bringins whit Dutchy.

The it was time for the #1 WSBK race, first corner is tight

Biaggi runs wide but still eventually wins the race.

After the race #1 it was time for something to eat, but on way there we did testsit some ducatis

But even Biaggi again takes a good start, he crashes out, then Marco Melandri crashes and Chaz Davies takes his first WSBK win:

After that we still met the Junior racer Brandon Kyee, and Doug did testrit his race bike, the KTM Duce

The next day Doug did put back the DB killer, to be on safe side, even a bit pi**ed of.

Then we headed to the place on base where aircrafts are posed, and they got joined by 3 nice bikes.

Big Thanks Doug and familly for hoasting, and the Dutch boys to come along. I had a exelent weekend!

Yes, it was a great race weekend with very nice weather, good food and drinks and once again excellent hospitality by our host Douglasthecook and his wife Kara, thanks again! Dutchy and myself headed for the Ring at about nine in the morning for about 200km of slabbing followed by another 80km or so of scenic twisty roads leading up to The Nuerburgring where we met with Douglasthecook and his collegue Steven. We arrived at about 14:30 so in time for SBK practice and a pit walk. After that some more twity roads heading back to Doug's place to drop off our stuff and a quick shower before picking up keny from the airport. Next morning started with some work on some of the bikes and when Steve arrived from Bittburg we set off for The Ring, not to arrive there before enjoying some German cuisine Steven waiting for the start of the superstock 600 race. He took some nice action shots, I hope Doug can post some of them up here. The day's programme was mostly qualifying and qualifying practice but the day ended with the Supersport 600 race. The race weekend could not start any better as it was won by the Dutch rider Michael van der Mark He started from pole but soon was riding in fourth position. It didn't last long though and once he regained the lead he kept his leading position to the finish. Douglasthecook and Dutchy. California's Brandon Kyee leading a small group battling for 9th position in the Junior Cup. It was great talking to the Kyee family, they sure take a lot of time to talk to the race fans Race 1 Max and Tom were leading for quite some time. In the end Tom was overtaken by two more Aprilias making it a one-two-three for Aprilia! Keny Someone missing a kneeslider? Where Checa crashed in race 1 Biaggi crashed in race two but both were able to finish the race and get into the point. Although Melandri got the a double it was a very disappointing weekend for him and BMW and he lost his leading position in the championship to Max. A great first victory by Davies on hi non works Aprilia. Also good to finaly see Suzuki on the podium again. Start of one of the Superbike races. I'm glad you guys came down, and had a good time. This is one thing that I'll miss about Europe next summer. It was a very good weekend, and quite fitting that Keny was able to come down and enjoy the weekend, as he was the one that helped start this tradition when he wanted to do a lap of the 'Ring several years ago, and was looking for an inexpensive hotel to stay at near the 'ring. I offered up my place for free, and suggested that Keny delay his trip by a week, and we would be able to watch the WSBK races at the 'Ring, and the tradition was born! I'm supposed to get Steve's pics by the end of the week, and I'll post some of them up.

Also many castles can be found here, some large and some small like this one. Especially on the southside of the Eifel along the river Mosel there is a castle after almost every corner.

The Germans are famous for their beers, but also some good wines are being produced here.

Out of curiosity, do the Polizei pull people over at random, or is there inspection stops that you must pull over at? Ooor, did one of you do something to get their attention? (You don't have to answer that if what you say may incriminate yourself) :biggrin:

from my perspective, they look what is coming towards them, listen and then decide to raise their arm and piont to the side.....
While they were busy with us, others could ride past.
We saw a bunch of squids with shorts, flipflops and t-shirts, but with a helmet. The police looked at them, shook their heads in disbelief but had no reason to pul them over. If they'd not been busy with us, they might have pulled them over to look for anything amiss.

So after some 30 years vistiting GP's, WSBK, Motorgp on various bikes, this was the first time I got pulled over.

I figured it was random but not having driven in Europe I thought they might have inspection check points. My latter thought also crossed my mind as well. Sorry to digress, back to your regularly scheduled thread...
