How to get an exhaust note like this?!

Hi! I ran into this clip on youtube.....He's got Staintunes on and apparently Catless headers. It does sound very similar when you remove the muffler, however he's got the mufflers on. I've watched some other clips with catless headers and after market pipes, however they don't sound anything like this. Eg. PS: Please don't flame me about wanting a deafening exhaust like my other thread, I'd like something similar to this but slightly quieter as do I value my ears. And I'm curious how he got the sound like this with the set up he's got.

You get the low throaty tone from the size of the can. I have a set of Microns. The cans have a large volume (inside space), and they sound really good, and are relative quiet.
I don't have the tech toys to post a good clip, but you can find them on Youtube. When you loose the factory exhaust, you shed a lot of weight up high, and that is a good thing.

I just looked up some clips of the micron and damn it does sound nice and throaty, heaps better than my staintunes. However it doesn't sound like the clip above.

The cans are empty on the first one is my guess.

The  location of the bike, the type of microphone used, and microphone placement make a big difference in recorded exhaust sound.  I could take the bike you are using as reference and make it sound dozens of different ways without changing any hardware or mics.

That is quiet a good point, because I don't think you can get sound like that with the mufflers on

Here was mine, they were completely gutted.

I've been very happy with the Remus sound, with the catless headers.  There was another member at the SumSum1 in Dillon, CO with a set of Staintunes that sounded really sweet.
The video I shot (the second one you posted) was done in my garage, with a Sony point-shoot digital.
I'll do a new one this week outside with my DSLR, although the onboard mic isn't the greatest.

The Remus set I have cannot be 'de-baffled' where another Remus owner showed that he removed a set screw and took his baffles out.
Before these, I had gutted my stock pipes and was VERY happy with the sound.  I went Remus from a great deal (site member) and the weight difference was tremendous.

I just replaced the collector pipe gasket that blew out on me, on my return from SumSumx2.  PITA I'll tell you but it's so nice to have that sound back.
I just love the throaty rumble.  CVVFR, who road the 5000 miles with me, said he always knew when I was about to pass with the volume peaking in VTec around 9000rpm,
but during typical roads, how sweet it sounded.

A v4 can be as loud as you want... I never tire of that sound...

I installed the Leo Vince exhaust and really like them. They have a big bore deep sound that I have only heard on certain Ducatis. This clip is a pretty good representation of what they actually sound like.

The first clip; the bike is running staintunes, which I have on my 02. People tell me bike sounds like a small block v8 or 5.o liter push rod ford. The staintunes by far sound sweet, low grumble at idle nice throaty sound under half throttle.  At wot, it sounds like a ducati, with a full set of termignoni pipes. I love my Australian built staintunes. Every time i think of selling old reliable I start it up and ride around for an hour and fully absorb the sweet rhythms coming from those glorious pipes.

I really enjoy the sound of my VFRs exhaust, but it's not for everyone ... took some short clips with a GoPro, the mike may not be the best, and I'm no videographer so comments from the peanut gallery will be ignored ... I threw some 'splaining in with this first clip: A short clip from the nite before when I was trying not to annoy the neighbors: And a short clip from a while back, on the road, with the GoPro mounted in the cockpit ... I let some friends go by and then open her up trying to catch them, love the sound from in there ... Of course, we're all partial to our own, now aren't we ... ACE
