The connector between my stator and R/R got a little hot and melted, so am going to do away with plugs.

Could anyone tell me if the stator wires need to be connected across to the R/R wires in the same order/arrangement as if I were using the OEM plug?

Why would you try anything else?

I don't know, just out of curiosity, and if I was to somehow mess it up and lose the order... I do kinda have a knack for doing that...

Yellow wires can be connected to the R/R in any order. - Suggest to use a Metripack 630 connector.

Knute,
It does not make a difference. Look at the test procedures for the stator and you will see that testing between all 3 wires from the stator should have the same output. The RR just takes the output from all 3 wires and converts it to a usable voltage for the bike. So, it does not matter which yellow wire from the stator goes to which yellow wire to the RR.

What did you use to get a good solid crimp on the wires? I know crimpers are sized for particular gauge wire. Is there a particular crimper you used/liked? Or would any for "x" gauge wire work OK?

Not point is half-assin' it, solder those joints.
