Yeah true, mine is so farkled out, to the point of well its perfect, and dunno what else I wanna do. Its amazing to have a ride custom tailered for your riding style.

Looks like I did not jinx myself by talking about this bike. Just brought home my new-to-me 2007 Italian Red VFR800! I know I said I wanted the anniversary edition, but the only one with ABS was 6.5 hours away, had little in the way of farkles was $500 above my agreed upon max spend. This one however, hit almost every button except the color scheme.
Without further ado:

Allow me to direct your attention to the front forks and disc brakes. You will see the Race Tech logo. Both front and back suspension has been upgraded with Race Tech Gold Valves. The bike is of course ABS.
You can also see the color matched OEM luggage, Givi monolock topcase, and Fieldsheer tail bag. The seat is a custom Sargent overstuff horn to cradle the boys. It also came with the OEM and another regular Sargent seat.

The first thing you may notice is the MRA Vario touring screen. Oh yeah, that thing is nice. Next up is the Zumo 550 GPS on a ball mount. To the left of that is Escort 8500X radar detector. I don't really need this, but it was a part of the deal. Right below that is the MCCruise electronic cruise control. Can't wait to use that on the slab! Directly to the right is an Acumen gear indicator. Those grips look funny to you? Thats because they are HotGrips Ergo-2 heated Grips! That weird looking plug on the fairing is part of a Autocom Super Pro AVi communication kit. I passed on the radios themselves because they mounted in the guys helmet.
What you can't see is the new DID X-Ring chain, Factory Pro EVO-H91 shift kit, PIAA horn, another Battery Tender with pigtail plug, new Michelin Road Pilot 2CT on back and Power on front, and the best thing yet... Complete maintenance records dating back to when he bought the bike new in 2007.
Actually, I lied. The best thing about this is that I only paid $5500 out the door.
You ARE going to love the MCcruise. It's the bomb.
Not sure about the newer models, but mine has a a sensitivity adjustment. If the bike feels like it's hunting a lot on the flat, you may have to reduce the sensitivity setting on the brain box. Also, if you burn out a tail light, the cruise quits working.
Side note: On my bike, with the LED taillight, that prevented the cruise from working, so I had to populate the one unused connector with a regular incandescent bulb, and pop it into the rear of the LED housing. I painted the dummy light black to prevent it from shining around the circuit boards. haha, good workaround.

Okay, since you have an over stuff sargent and a regular sargent, any obvious functional differences? I assume you'll try both and see which one you like best.
Congrats! The Candy Red is gorgeous. Looks well farkled! I agree that the MRA screen is wonderful. Other than your radar detector and electronic cruise control (I went with the ol' faithful Throttlemeisters), we have alot of the same mods. Enjoy!

You know, I wanted the anniversary for so long I just discounted the Italian Red. Let me tell you, in person this color is absolutely gorgeous.
As for the ride, it's not a real fair comparison since my 99 has stock suspension, but the handling on this bike reminds me of how I felt going from my 92 Nighthawk to the 99 VFR. Just incredibly responsive. The fit and finish on the 6th gen is also head and shoulders above the 5th. I mean, no contest. Braking is absolutely amazing. The dash is going to take time to adapt to, but it is easy to read and grab info quick. I also like that it is red and yellow at night to match the bike. It is just such a well thought out bike.
HOWEVER - what everyone said is true. The 5th gen motor is the better motor. There, I said it. It's more aggressive and it sounds different. Not just the GDC either. That was kind of funny at first, not hearing that. But I really enjoyed it at highway speed. GDC must have the exact frequency to resonate in my head because long hauls it couldn't get that sound out of my head. Even with ear plugs. But, when I went to the twisty area near Yellow Springs and I had the rpm's up high, thats when I liked the sound of GDC's.
I love the look of the exhaust, but I'm pretty sure it's going to have to go. Sounds like I am riding a lawnmower or sewing machine at idle. I know I can gut it, but I might as well get a weight savings too.

Well, I rode the overstuffed Sargent today. I think it sits me up too high. The guy I bought it from was 5'9", I'm 6'1". Maybe he needed that to reach the controls or something. He said the stock & regular Sargent crowded the boys and the overstuffed was what helped. I don't know yet. I will try the regular Sargent tomorrow if I finish my Honey-Do list.

I actually think the electronic cruise control is a bit of overkill, but he already did the work so I'll give it a whirl.
So is the '99 up for sale now?
Pretty soon. I have two local people That I will give first dibs because I know them. I won't cut them a deal, I'll just let them know first. As I mentioned before, I would much rather it go to a VFR fan instead of someone just looking for a bike. I would also like to sell it turn key, but I will most likely take it back close to OEM.
I was actually thinking of some day riding through Jacksonville florida, stopping at Sargent and have my stock seat rebuilt. I actually like a taller seat , more leg room. That's the only reason Ive been able to tolerate the stock seat in modified form.
