Wiring In Accessories?

Hey! :).

Im abit concerned about wiring everything onto the battery.

I've currently got an optimate lead and heated grips wired directly onto the battery, and im looking to get a sat nav next year too.

The thing is, will it be okay wiring all 3 onto the battery?

I've seen that Eastern Beaver does wiring centres, but I'm not an electrician so it confuses me a little.

Would i require one with a relay? If so, what size relay?

Is the standard one just 2 wires going onto the battery?

Is this a good idea? Anybody used them before?

I've bought off them before. I got a dual H4 headlight relay for my old sv650s. It worked wonders and its all good quality.

Cheers!

PC-8  with  the  relay  is  the  way  I  would  go.

What size relay mate?

A relay is a switch isnt it? Is it switching circuits (switched ones) when it gets a signal off a live? Eg. Id probably use a sidelight wire? I ride with my lights on all the time anyway.

I'm using the Eastern Beaver three circuit solution (3CS) and it's great. Easy to tuck into tight spaces. The relay ties into a circuit that gets hot when the key is switched on, such as the tail light circuit. That signals the 3CS fuse box to get power only when the key is on for switched circuits. If you order the kit with an unswitched circuit, it is hot all the time. You don't want high draw items such as heated grips on an unswitched circuit in case you forget to turn it off. However, you might want a usb connected to an unswitched circuit that will allow you to charge low power items like a cell phone with the key off. I personally selected all switched circuits.

By the way, they supply the proper relay with the 3CS. You don't have to specify as I recall.

30A  realy  would  be  fine .  And  remember  you  fuse  each  devise  to  what  the  manufactures  recommends .

Where did you tuck it away mate? Under the seat?

Im currently wondering if the pc8 will fit under there haha
Urgh. Too many options.

No idea what length i want, cos im not sure where i could mount it atm.

Also not sure whether i want 30a or 50a. I think 30 would be enough?
#9
Yep, under the seat. It's easy to tuck away. I can't imagine needing more than 30A unless you're running auxiliary lights, heated gear and more simultaneously.

any thoughts on what length should be purchased? want enough wire too make it an easy install but not so much that a nest starts to form....

Thats what im thinking mate. I'll get the seat off tonight and have a weigh up.

Not quite sure where the box will fit.

Might just get the 50a then. I've got a thing with lights, so that should leave me open to options in the future.

How much dya reckon you could run off the vfr before its discharging faster than its charging? Is the charging system good on it?

Cheers guys. Sorry for being a pain haha.

If it was plumbin or heating, I've got much more of an idea with that ;) aha.

Thinking about it, the shortest standard kit is 18 inches long. Thats 450mm iirc. That should be loads if its just going under the seat i think.

Don't know the answer, but I run heated grips and a heated jacket liner.  Together they run about 9-10 amps on high.  My bike handles this fine at speed, but the grips auto shut down at idle and come back on when the revs build.  (Feature built in to the grip controller.)

Hmm cheers. Thats useful.

My grips have that function too.

50 amps must be massively overkill then haha.

Remember total output of  the stator is 480 Wattts approx.  12Vdc x 40A =480W.

I didnt know that but was gonna try find it out.

Saved me a job. Tah!

I'll have a work out i think haha.

And  that  480W  has  to  power the fuel system, spark plugs, lights, ECU and  so  on .

Yeah. I dont think it leaves a great deal left for auxiliary functions does it haha.

Im sure itll power heated grips n sat nav without any worries (:

Just doing it to tidy up the wiring, plus its switched, plus i dont want to pile everything on the battery connections.

Oh and if i decide to get a new/newer viffer at some point, i can just transfer it cant i. So i think itll be a good idea? :).
