Track Days And Riding Culture In Dallas?

I  live in the Chicago area right now, which is motorcycle hell. I have not found any tracks within a reasonable distance. Also, the bike season is really short. I am considering a move to Dallas for professional reasons. So I also wonder what the bike culture is like and what opportunities at tracks are available there.

You'll have two tracks within an hour or two depending on where you live. North of town is Eagles Canyon near Gainesville and Motorsports Ranch in Cresson which is southwest.

It's mostly squids here so the Twisties are usually void. There are good country/farm roads for regular weekend riding around the metroplex. Pavement is questionable in some places but overall it's pretty good with multiple routes and options available. Dallas gets the annual IMS which is here in two weeks. We also have a good leather/helmet store (moto liberty), multiple brick and mortar cycle gears, plenty of dealerships and riding season is late Feb/early March through December so only Dec/Jan do you have to park it. But there are exceptions like this coming weekend that will have a high of 60 so you can at least escape the winter for a few hours and lean it.

Ditto to Eagles Canyon and CMR. CMR is a go cart track (tight, slower) but it's good enough. The pavement at Eagles Canyon sucks but again it's not bad for a local track. The best track in North America is a 3hr drive (COTA) and we are hoping as time goes on, it will become cheaper with more days available. You'd also be a 3hr ride to the hill country that surrounds Austin and San Antonio. It is nirvana with a thousand + miles of twisty pavement. A radar detector keeps the DPS away (our state police or troopers). The Ozark mountains are also a one day trip to get to either riding or driving bitch with a trailer.

It's a far cry from California riding or anyplace that is 3 hours from the Gap but it's not bad at all. Curious who you work for as my HQ is in downtown Chicago and I have to go there once or twice a year for meetings. I like Chicago but man that weather sucks and the State isn't what I would consider gun friendly. Dallas is like any other major city in America as far as food, drink, shopping, etc. Only difference is the Cowgirl nuts but thankfully JerryWorld isn't in Dallas ;)

Sounds like Dallas Metro is a promising place. I also wonder about Arlington. I am a software architect, so I am thinking about getting a second Masters degree in IT Management. UT Arlington has a very good rep. I also hear the girlies are more friendly. Chi women are as cold as a witch's....you know. One even snubbed her nose at me because I ride. My friend married country girl from Wisconsin. He tells me they are so much more down to earth and easy to get along with. It would be great to get with a woman who rides.

All the other metrics I looked at regarding Dallas is also better than Chi. Dallas has a much lower population, but just as many IT job listed on dice.com . The cost of living is also much lower. 

I am not sure when I can pull the trigger. My father is 81 years old and I have to keep an eye on him. 

The women here, well it depends on what part of the metroplex.  If you are talking Dallas, well they are superficial, materialistic and self absorbed.  You better have your debit/credit card available at all times because they will rack it up.  Don't think if you move here that part of the trip, won't change much.  They are nicer than Chicago women but not by much, and they expect you to pay, for EVERYTHING.  The Southern Belle!

Well, yes. Big city girls. They have a sense of entitlement. What is theres is theres, and what is yours is theres. I would not want to live smack in the city, I just want access to it. I would want to live somewhere further out in the burbs.

I lived in the DFW area (Dallas, Farmers Branch, Carrollton and Arlington) for 25 years. There are plenty of good areas to live in the Metroplex, but if you plan to attend UTA, I would look very hard at Arlington simply for ease of commuting. I now live and ride the mountains of the Carolinas, so I won't comment on the riding in DFW
