92 Carb Needle Valve Seat Question...

I have a 92 VFR (Canadian model) and I'm rebuilding the carbs. I ordered new needle valve seats and needles but I noticed something as I was putting the new ones on. The new needle valve seats have a 2.6 stamped on the top while the old ones I'm replacing have a 2.4 stamped on the top. Otherwise they are identical and fit exactly the same. I have two questions:

1. What does the number represent?
2. Can the 2.6 seats be used on my bike or will it not run correctly?

So I spoke with a couple of guys who said the numbers represent the flow rate for each valve and has no overall effect on the operation of the carbs. They said it simply dictates how quickly the float bowls fill up with fuel. Can anyone verify this is correct? Thanks.
