Okay folks, I know everyone is still recovering from Tmac, but I want to go ahead and get this out there so folks have time to take off from work and such. Last year we had a great turnout of 7 riders. Sorry to say the weather was less than desirable. This year will be better! Also, if we get enough interest, I am planning to do a t-shirt this year. Same as last year, there will be no entry fees or any required payment other than room, food, gas, and the usual costs with trips. (and tshirts if you order one) Sorry, but I wont have kegs of beer and BBQ waiting in the parking lot, but I suspect we will manage haha!

RIDERS OF ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME! And of course ride whatever bike you want, the guy planning the ride (me) doesn't even ride a VFR anymore! :goofy:

The details that I have planned so far:

HOTEL:

October 9-13,2015 That is a Friday through a Tuesday, so 4 nights. Come for less, stay for more, but those are the "official dates" (aka when I will be there)

The "luxury accommodations" for the week are at Greene's Motel in Boone, NC. It's nothing fancy and it's an old place, however it is clean and it is the most affordable option in Boone and the surrounding area. It is also right on the main road close to gas, food, and stores. Greene's is HOLDING 15 ROOMS all with double beds for the above dates UNTIL the LAST WEEK IN SEPTEMBER. When you call in, let them know you are with the VFRD Motorcycle group. The rate is 59$ a night plus tax, which is a deal in this part of the world during this time of the year. I encourage everyone to go ahead and reserve the room as soon as you know you can make it. Their number is 828-264-8845

TSHIRTS:

Vote in the poll ASAP. If there is enough interest I will post additional info later on as far as ordering.

Ride routes:

I have a couple routes since I live in the area, but feel free to make something up and bring it along! If we have more folks this year, we will have multiple ride groups.

That is all I have for now, I will add more as I think of things.

Hope to see everyone there!

I'm in. And I'll have my better half in tow, he's got the bags on his bike. :)

#4

Given that I missed the recent action, I'm compelled to try and make this. It'd be a little extension of summer. Besides I'm eager to sign your helmet. :)

I just hope I've used up all my negative karma. It will be good to be back in the best riding environment before next year.

I do not take getting to NC for granted any more, so all I'll say is I'll try to make it.

I was surprised to realize you were not going to Tmac. So now I feel a little less bad for missing it. After all, what would Tmac be without the Switch?!

Looking forward to it.

4 weeks !!!!

Just a reminder that all the rooms are two double beds, so theres plenty of room for sharing. Do post up here once you make a reservation so I can keep track of how many rooms we are using up. If we end up needing more than 15, I can talk with the manager.

-PRB

Edit: Rooms being held for us only until the last week of September, but I encourage everyone to jump on it as soon as they can.

#9

I made it last year, how could I miss this year? Attendance is already up. :fing02:

#10

Interested but have to see what work looks like then...

#13

I mean if that is what floats ya'lls boats I'm sure the gas station next door has some! I think we drank mostly Yeungling last year.

Snobs.....

I'm in and this time I'm bringin' the Mrs. Just picked up a cherry Hawk GT this evening and would have a nice pic to post, but as soon as I pulled into the driveway a small typhoon hit.

#15

Now that I have moved back to the states, and have replaced my AU VFR with a new US VFR it's time to plan a ride with other enthusiasts! Looking forward to any updates and/or other events that are posted. See you soon.

Sorry boys that's the same week as Barber Vintage Race so me no go .

#18

The lady and myself stayed at Greenes Motel in Boone this week and give it a ?. As Ben stated, it's not real fancy, but it's clean and inexpensive. The lady that helped us was kind and the young girl that worked there didn't say a thing when she saw me roll the hawk out of the room in the morning. (It rained in the evening and the Corbin soaks up water like a sponge). Not that I condone such behavior.

#19

i my join in two up this year, will see how things pan out.

Hmmmmmmmmmm................I did a big Boone trip last September with my Florida guys. Nice. HEAVY fog on the BRP in the morning? You can bet on it!

Lotsa outstanding roads there. Boone is a good town. Lotsa places to eat good food. And I know where the liquor store is.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........have to think about this. It might supersede the Trace Pace Fall Ride I was thinkin' about organizing, but that's okay.

And as for a tee shirt? Nah. Not interested.

Hopefully, if all things line up, and you attend, you can visit your old VFR. I'm hoping no one buys it until I get back from W.Va next week.

#22

I am going to start working on tshirts this month, order info should be up by the first week of August

I'm ordering a tee shirt. Medium please. I drown in those XLs. (Although they may come in handy if a gal wanted to fit in there with me; but that never happens. :sad2: )

I'm in for a t-shirt, but only if they are the fancy sweat wicking type. I don't need to collect any more sweat than I already do!

#33

I've realized I cannot make that date in October. So no tee for me. I'll have to settle for seeing the crowd at Tmac next year. If Malidiemuck (the god of luck) allows it. :wheel:

I liked my 5th gen, and I don't hate the 6th gen, its just not for me. I have become spoiled by the comfort of my ADV and Standard style bikes. The 7th gen with some LSL bars on it might be nice, but my money tree doesn't wanna take root. Plus I am still enjoying my CB500F a lot. Great little bike.

My post was intended to be humorous. I'm helping people not want another VFR with my sixth gen. If I could justify spending the cash, I might move on myself but for now the old Honda just suits me.

Just don't pack any of the cold weather. Or rain, we got our share of that last year. Glad you're going to make it.

#51

Uhhhh, is anyone else's reservation a persons first name at Greene's or is it just me?

Now hey, I would much rather go to a Mom and Pop establishment anytime but this seems to be a little more casual than I'm used to or comfortable with.

Anyone else.....Bueller, Bueller?

These roads look so good I will be joining Maxwell in having to get some incontinence wear waiting for October!

#55

I don't know the roads well but that looks like it was laid out by a drunkin goat.

#56

My favourite kind (of road)! Google estimates over four hours to do less than 90 miles - there must not be a straight section in the whole thing!

"it looks like a bunch of Z's and W's all strung together" credit to CB McCall's "Black Bear Road"

#57

I'll check it out and let you know! Pay little attention to googles time estimates In the area, they mean zip! Some roads it is accurate if you drive like grandma and take a lunch break 1/2 way on a 10 mile strech, others you would have to be really flying to even be close. It's quite fun working in tourism in the area. It's weekly I'm asked "can't we just jump on the interstate to get there" or "are there any flat strait roads, we are getting car sick from these roads".

It takes a while cause most of that route is gravel or dirt. I've ridden some of those on my XT, but wouldn't recommend them on the VFR. Especially Globe rd into Blowing Rock, shake your fillings right outta your teeth.

#59

Thanks RazorWing and zeer0, appreciate the feedback.

Yes, gravel roads on a VFR is not the fun I like to have.

Even zooming Google Earth out some the roads don't get any straighter (which is good, very, very good). I can certainly see why people would complain with, "are there any flat strait roads, we are getting car sick from these roads"!

#60

I have two solid 250ish mile routes I guess I'll be leading already set up, one we did last year, the other is new and will take us up into Virginia. I can make up a 3rd route pretty easily since this is my backyard. RazorWing, Zeer0, Ironman, 007 and Kebrider (if they all show) are local as well, so perhaps they can volunteer to lead some groups. Last year we had 7 riders so we all just went together, then it rained. But I'm not allowing any of that foul weather this year.

I'll lead a slower group. My wife is just getting back into street riding, so she's not as quick as she would like to be. I'll probably try to keep the mileage under 200.

#64

Quite the turn out this year. If half of them show, it'll be twice as big as last year.

So, I ordered a new rear Road2ct today. I was so temped to run the old one one more trip but it slid on me the other day when I was downshifting. I think maybe it has seen its day. Really looking forward to this trip.

Sweet thanks, I'm sure dad will feel comfortable with you all at a relaxed pace.

RazorWing, there's a few of us who are semi local, I think you are the only true Boone/Blowing rock resident. Thanks for volunteering too!

If you guys have some routes feel free to start working on them so we will have stuff to go off of the first day

#67

I might be plus one and on the ST beer wagon.

#68

Add Norman to your list. He's "Bedman" on VFRD, but that's only so he can register for BR's shindig in May. :goofy: He's not a VFR owner. Neither am I anymore!

#70

An even bigger question is why don't I (of all people!) have a King Of Earth icon in my signature?

#71

I love my Delkevic exhaust! Just sayin'

#72

Some work details need to be sorted this week but it looks like The Girl and I can make it so I will try and get a room booked. Be fun to ride the ST with BR again but the CB or NC are just so much fun in that area. Maybe I will put a hitch on the ST and tow the CB over.

Nice BR.

Got the CB all prepped last night. New chain, the stock chain is a DID that had some of the tightest links I have ever dealt with. They were bad new and got so bad that they would never straighten. I will take it back to Honda next week and let them know it was defective but in the meantime I have had a vacuum sealed RK XSO chain for 12 years and finally decided to use it before the grease goes bad, probably too late.

Next I installed new T-30 Evos front and rear. First time I will be running without a dedicated sport tire on the front but the T30 EVO on the NC is so good I am giving them a try. New braked pads went in as well as the originals were below half worn. I brutalize the brakes and tires on the CB because I life without big power dictates such behavior. Last I changed the oil/filter.

I believe the CB is ready for some mountain fun.

Sorry boys that's the same week as Barber Vintage Race so me no go .

I think with all the construction as Barber this year, and the fact my friend who lives nearby is unavailable to host this year, I am skipping this one. Otherwise it would be a hard decision. This would have been my 3rd consecutive Vintage Fest. Looking forward to Boone.

Im looking for a roomie to share lodging cost.

Latest PSA, So if you're a procrastinator and haven't booked a room yet, there's nothing left in Boone that's not close to $200/night. I'll be about 20 miles outside of Boone. Got my name on a list in case something else becomes avaiable.

Still have the grin from all the great riding over this event.

Thanks Curt and Rob for letting me tag along Friday and Sunday on The Snake (or Snah-kay as Curt says) and the Dragons Backwards Descending Testicle (whatever the hell the real name is = Great Road!) - they were very gracious to back-off their normal pace off for me.

Monday, well, let me just say that I agree with Sweeper; best day ever. Also because it was the last.

Tue and Wed I hung around the Red Rum Hotel to explore points south consisting of 143-261-80 and over to 226A and 221 - this too is "gold Jerry, GOLD!"

I started with a fully scrubbed-in Q3 and finished with something that will likely have to be changed before TMAC2016 - and couldn't be happier about it! Fantastic roads and even better people. Thanks Ben for all the work in arranging this event and I owe you a beer or two.

Post Script: Made it back home 24 hours after originally planned - having the bike in the back of the truck it seems the VFR electrical problems are contagious and dripped down into my my truck as after 305,000kms / 189,500miles my truck's alternator failed on the way back. Stayed overnight just south of Pittsburgh in Waynesburg, PA and was on the way the next day almost exactly 24hrs later. Only noticed because the wipers slowed down and the engine performed differently under load.

Minor issue in the large scheme of things. People I met must have thought I was a bit "off" (even more so than the average Canadian) as I was grinning and unusually good humoured through the whole episode (am still grinning from all the fantastic riding even now).

Yeah, we had an electrical issue also. Now, I don't want to mention Curt's name or anything...........but......SOMEBODY............had a stater and RR take a dump on us. We had just left the BRP to get gas, almost got taken out by a dump truck in a left hander that was ALL the way over in our lane (blind corner at that), then wound up going through the Bear Hunter Deluxe gauntlet with almost a dozen hunters standing on the side of the road spaced about a 1/4 mile apart with radar tracking screens for the dogs, and the battery had finally run out of charge and died at an intersection (without any warning). Of course they were doing construction there and we were on display like a circus act for all to watch/point at (ya know, leathers and all). A couple dudes were cool enough to come over to check on us and let us know there was a Walmart just down the road. We swapped batteries between the bikes (had enough charge to push start the YZF) and went and got a multi meter. Yup, verified. Got gas, took off towards Asheville to grab lunch and jump on the interstate. Went approximately 32.6 miles, grubbed..........and (ahem)..... "his".... bike wouldn't start again. Googled Uhaul, swapped batteries again, rode a few miles and rented the smallest unit they had, which, of course was a 40 footer. Oh, had to buy 2 sets of 4 ratchet straps, got the bikes loaded and tied down. And yes, there was the ONLY pile of dog $hit in the whole yard that.....somehow......we managed to run over, so it was oderific in the truck while loading. Finally made it home a little after 9ish.

Yup, still smiling too..........

Was Kimball present and did he mention the fact you were do for a stator failure ?

Like he did me but he did help me get home .

Or was Matt present and I told him he was due?

It all started when i told my good friend with his RC-51 how impressed I was that his original charging system was still working at nearly 80,000 miles. He didn't make it home due to the Honda Electrical Trifecta; battery, stator and RR meltdown. I felt so bad I gave him my spare battery.

Same deal if I tell you it won't rain. Be prepared for the 100 year storm.

I guess I'm pushing it with 105,000 miles on my original charging system on my 02, so in order to be safe I just ride the ST all the time instead. Lol.

I'm betting you spend so much time leaned over, that the stator stays submerged in oil (at least in left corners) and cooler than the people that ride straight roads. :goofy:

KEB's forecast of no rain once resulted in a cell phone turning into a brick on one occasion. On another occasion, I am pretty sure we were riding offroad at TMAC after being promised the best roads that nobody knows and cannot be found on a map (or something like that). I blame The Girl, now that I think about it. I come prepared for anything on the CB500X these days. That bike is ready to scale a mountain without roads.

Time to donate that VFR to a museum. The whole thing is likely to fall apart the next time you thumb the starter.

Baileyrock is "taking it easy" these days. He had a passenger on the last VFRD sponsored ride while riding some sort of black hole device very similar to KEB. Maybe Gloryracing will chime in, he seems to know an awful lot about those black holes.
