100 000 Km

Hello everyone. I have a VFR 2003 and I passed the 100 000 km (with only stator + rectifier problems and maybe a cam chain tensioner to change). I want to know your milage.

Edit: no real repairs so far, but I DO have a spare stator and gasket just in case Murphy's laws hit me... spare R/R too...

My 03 had almost 87,000 miles and was on it third set of R\R and stator .

And I had changed the both CCT's.

I got to 100,000 km on an '03 model with 2x stator and 1x R/R failure and rattling CCTs (oil change fixed that), knocking clutch (excessive inner & outer basket wear) and an oil weep (much slower than a leak, just leaving local stain) at front right motor (cover gasket) from 125°C overheat at racetrack.

Swapped out the motor from a written off '07 unit, not only cheaper than fixing each issue w new parts, actually made money selling off the rest of the valid bits n pieces.

My 04 had 161,000km on it by November 2014 when it was destroyed by a kangaroo. I think it had one stator, a couple of CCT swaps and I'd recently replaced the rear shock more as a refresh than having any problems with it. I can't see why it couldn't have carried on for another 100,000. Certainly it would have had about another 25,000 on it by now.

My 08 has 65000miles/104000km and has fried one stator so far.

I know of at least one 2002 model with 140,000 km that just fried the original stator last month.

No other issues.

Sooo, me being a long forgotten but still lurking member can chip in.

I bough a 2002 model brand new off the showroom floor in March 2002 the day after I was legally allowed to ride large capacity bikes. Put 128,000km on the original motor with no mechanical issues other than needing to replace the Cam chain tensioners (three times), the stator (twice), and the clutch disks (once).

After that I tried to be a smartypants and get it tuned, yada yada. Ended up dropping in a 2006 motor and American ECU, plus Motad headers. It never really ran right after all that and I by this time I had 185,000km on it. Got bored and bought a BMW K1300R. I've had that bike for 3 yrs now and 40,000km. It's fast but boring compared to the VFR. I miss it.

On a side note, my original 2002 motor and the 2006 frame is still getting around on this forum being ridden by MVinOz as a track bike.

Congratulations! Incidentally, have the valves ever needed adjustment? I have a working hypothesis regarding the need - or lack thereof - for checking the valves as often as the manual says.

I'm the second owner (purchased at 36 000 km) and never did adjust valves. The first owner did once, according to the specs.

I try to get my 6th gen out once a week, I doubt I'll ever buy another street bike it does everything a street bike needs to do.

My '94 has about 260,000 miles and it still runs like a champ. No major repairs...but the list of minor repairs and upgrades is lengthy.

My other 3 VFRs have between 50-65k miles.

My silver 2005 has 67K miles (about 108,000 km) and my 04 has (only) 19k miles(about 30,000km).

OH, and for the record, the CCT's are a bit noisy on the 05, and the clutch is noticeably less grippy than my 04.

My 02 has 35,000 miles (~56k km), and has been damned near rock solid, other than a couple of electrical issues nagging at me.

Same with my '04. Had some wiring issues, (fried stator to RR wires and starter relay connector), and a bad volt meter that lead me down the path of RR replacement. Turns out my OEM RR was fine, but now I have the piece of mind of an upgraded unit.

Yeah, I did the vfrness a few years back, and I hard wired my stator harness after the stator/RR connector partially melted. I'm probably going to upgrade the RR pretty soon, but right now the only thing that really stands out and is irritating is that the kill switch and high beam switch seem a bit touchy. I'm sure I just need to take them apart and clean them up.

My 2003 VFR800 has 91,300k's

It's had all services up to date ,clutch basket starting to knock a little and CCT needs doing

One thing is that it has overheated and spewed out the overflow bottle the last 2 rides

So a coolant flush new hoses and rad cap is next to be done

Other than that it's a pearler and all is good
