I got to thinking that it might be a good idea for all us So. Ca. Viffers to keep a running "tally" going of what roads we know to be still closed and which one's are now open and/or rideable to a certain degree.
Sound good?
I'll start with my experience so far.
Mainly the Sm mountains as every other road that we ride seems to be closed.
SM mtn report:
Mulholland from PCH up is generally pretty good....a few areas that have some hard packed dirt to watch for, but in general good for spirited sport riding.
Mulholland between Cornell and Las Virgenes is good
Encinal is also good
Cornell(couple of fun corners) is good
Others:
Grimes Cyn was a bit to messy to really run hard as of a week ago atleast. So. Mtn was closed Guiberson was closed
I've heard 150 to Ojai is closed in some area. 150 around Lake Casitas is closed near Carpenteria at one of the little bridges(washed out)...can be bypassed in that area by taking 192 for a short ways.
I've heard that Lake Hughes and everything up that way is closed????
So, what does everyone say....can we try and help each other out and keep this updated B)
Ortega (Highway 74) opened this past Friday. I rode it on Saturday morning and can say that it is in decent repair, but be careful around some of the bends. Because of the rains and repairs there seems to be a large amount of dirt and pebbles on certain areas.
Hopefully the road will be a bit more clear in the coming days. I'd hate to hear of any drops because of the dirt.
The first part of ACH is open, but full of cops. AFH is wide open and great. Lower Tujunga is closed, so no way to hit it without transitioning through ACH. Mt Emma is open, but must cross a river first. Can continue on up to Mile High Cafe.
Last week, Stunt and Pyuma were open, and semi clean, but with patches of water runnoff. The RockStore smells like a sewer, PU, but is open.

Lewis, regarding Tujunga......are you talking about Big Tujunga? If so, do you know if you can get to Upper Big Tujunga or is the whole thing basically FUBAR'd?

Lower T is definately closed. Upper is open from top to bottom, but not the other way for some reason. Maybe it is open now, I forgot to check this Sunday.

O.K B) ....let's really try and keep this thread updated so that we can find out what's rideable and what's not worth riding all the way out to just to discover that it's a no go.
Don't you head out towards Bouquet and the other cyns. in that area going to work? Do you know what's going on out that way for sure??????
Me thinks that the SM's are going to get kind of "old" sometime in the near future :(
I found these links helpful. Lake Hughes is supposed to be open 2/20/05, but Boquet and San Francisquito are estimated to be closed until 10/31/2005. :( Little T supposed to open in February.

I tried Bouquet Canyon today and it is worse than I thought. It was completely closed at Vasquez Canyon and the part that was open had a couple of one lane spots. :(
Soledad and Sierra Hwy just dont cut it but like ULEWZ said......it's better than the slab.

It's gonna be about 8 months before Bouquet is back open again. Until then, we can root for Little T to be open in a few weeks.

Don't know on all of them for sure but believe they are all basically closed. As of a week and a half ago, S Mtn was closed as is Guiberson which heads the opposite direction, 150 was closed aroung the Thomas Aquinas College, I ntink I heard that 33 was closed in some parts...not sure about Lockwood?????

Are there ways to get on to Big T.......I know Lewis mentioned that you can get to upper Big T from The Crest, i.e. where is it closed exactly etc....

Grimes over the hill towards Fillmore is pretty clean now.
Guiberson is open all the way to the bridge near Torrey road(but no exit to 126) but is very dirty after a few miles in.
Soledad Cyn is open and clean atleast from the Sand Cyn out to La Cabana(fav mex resturant in Acton)
From Soledad....Angeles Crest Hwy is clean, Upper Big Tujunga is clean, and you can take Big Tujunga all the way down into Sunland. There are a few areas on Big Tujunga where there's water coming across the road so an initial "recon" run to familiarize yourself might be warranted...may be completely dry by next weekend though? The road is washed out as you near Sunland, but they've got a detour through the dirt for about 50 yds so it's definitely doable. So bottom line, Big T is accessible from both ends B)
Went through Big and Little Tujungas today. Some dirt, some water as it was raining, and the nice muddy section near Sunland on Big Tujunga. Don't think I've ever gone so slow through there, but haven't ridden in rain or much on wet roads even in a long time. Short shift. It was still good to get out, even getting rained on. :D
Lake Hughes is supposed to open tomorrow, Boquet and San Fran not for a long while.
Side note, the Rock Inn at Lake Hughes is for sale. Again. According to The Mountain Yodeler, a little free local rag I picked up at the Rock Inn today. I wonder how much they want? :beer:
Little T is open, albiet not accessible from the 210. They had Osborne and Weatland both closed off. No problem from the 14 fwy side. It was hard to tell how bad Little T was because of the rain. Definately some dirty areas, but the road has only just begone to be opened.
They want $245,000 for the Rock Inn. Um, that's just for the business and there's a lease to pay for the premises, sale doesn't include the Real Estate. How much you could make after paying rent and all the expenses, I don't know. But I guess you could live there too. B)
I believe the gas station and convenience store across the street is also for sale. I won't be quitting my job anytime soon for one of these gigs, but it could be cool. Make it a Das Bone Inn, Craig. :beer:

You're right - thanks VFR4Lee - we've communicated a couple of times. Truth is... I find the other board tricky to navigate (not like beeeeudiful vfrd!), so don't visit it often. I must try harder perhaps...
