VFR Discussion Group -> AMA at Barber

Who's gonna be at Barber in April.We'll have to do a better job of meeting up somewhere.Went last year and didn't meet another VFRd member.Thinking about riding out this year.

I'll be there. Some of the best racing of the year was at Barber last year. Remember Zemke having big leads in both SB races only to get passed on the last lap to finish second twice? Or how about the supersport race, R. Haydon passing T. Hadon on the last corner. Can't wait :beer: .

Zemke had such big leads last year,I didn't think anybody could catch him.Every race last year was close,and sitting up on the backstretch hill was great viewing.

I'm 90% sure I'll be there. :D
Last year's trip was too much fun!
If we all ride out together we'll have to get a chiropractor to come with us to relive Rob's back every 150 miles at gas stops on his RC-51. :P

Got the hotel reserved and the race tickets ordered.Gonna ride out this year.I'm ready to go now! :wheel:

Hey rominalvfr, never been to Barber, where are u staying? and what do you think it would all cost? tickets etc? that's not too far away from me and I gotta get to one of these races :)

It was about 65 a night with taxes for the hotel and 64 for 3 day pass and paddock pass.Staying at Baymont Inn.

thnx ronimalvfr, I will have to chat with my local yokel riding buddy, maybe we'll ride up for a day or two. Are you guys going to ride from tx? I use to live in valley ranch, riding from there I think would be quite the long slab drone. thnx again, Hank

Yeah,it's along way out 20,but if the races are anything like last year,it'll be worth it.

I will be at Barber along with my Moto Guzzi riding partner and my son on his Aprilla. Where is everybody going to meet? I.e At the Museum parking lot. Look forward to meeting BaileyRock and others. Thanks Steve

They are probably booked up by now, but check out 29dreams.com. They rent cabins etc. Even if they don't have rooms available, it's worth your time to go to 29 dreams and check it out. They cater only to two wheels....it's kinda like a motorcycle resort. I believe they are approx. 10 miles from Barber and the roads getting to and from either location are great riding roads. :thumbsup:

Maybe the B'ham members know of a good place where we could all get together and have dinner 1 of the nights after the races. :beer:

Maybe us VFRD'ers could meet up at the museum on the lunch break on Friday.Will be sittin on the backstretch hill for the weekend probably.Would like to go to dinner 1 night at 29 Dreams to check that place out.Looks like great roads to get there.

Hey thats right off 280. 280 is busy 6-laner loaded with restraunts and bars :beer: . Not the best place to be riding around on a m/c, especially on weekend nights, but you'll have plenty of dinner choices.
If your interested, I can give you a nice little twisty back road that goes from 280 straight to barber's, no I-459 or I-20. :wheel:

That sounds ok. But 29 Dreams isn't known for its menu, and that road isn't alot of fun after dark, blind corners and alot of :deer: . I intend on drinking plenty of beer at the track so I'm out on a post race ride. I'm sneaking out of work friday so I'll be out there all 3 days. Maybe a morning ride up and down hwy 25 and a stop at 29 dreams would be an idea. I could tag along and make sure you dont get lost (think dualing banjo's). Just a suggestion :D .

If you guys are staying on 280 then I can think of plenty. A good mexican place and a sports bar (w/ good food) come to mind. Of course there is always barbeque. I can offer a car ride, cause I know most Texans are tipsy little lightweights :salesman: :beer: .

ronimal, I tried attaching a map but it said I'm not "permitted". Oh well, its real simple. If you go to mapquest or something just zoom in a little on I-459 / 280 intersection and you should see how this route starts on Blue Lake Rd.

Here it is. From the hotel go West on 280 and take the "exit" just before you get to I-459. I'm not sure but I bet the sign says "Blue Lake Dr" or "Collonade". Get on Blue lake going east. About a mile from 280 peel right on Sicard Hollow, there is a big brick pump house at the intersection of blue lake and sicard hollow.

Thats it. You'll come to one stop sign. Just go straight. Sicard Hollow turns into the county road thats out in front of Barbers.

Anyone else around heading out to barber this week?

Ronimal, I'll be going out friday sometime mid-morning and heading back around 2:30. If you want I can meet you and show you the way to the track without using the freeways. Some of the better close riding we have is between your hotel and the track.

Anyone else that wants to see the scenic way to the track just let me know and maybe we can figure a place and time to meet.

About 4 or 5 miles down Sicard Hollow Rd, you come to a stop sign. (intersection of Grants Mill Rd) Straight through takes you to Barber but the road changes name to Rex Lake Rd. (there is a great set of esses on this road that when headed east you can see all the way through for on coming traffic, its a great quick flip left-right-left with out slowing down) Right at that same stop sign takes you up over the mountian on a great twisty rd, (1st gear turns too) but corners are blind going down the other side. Left will take you back toward 459 and 20 in Irondale. Great place though, I lived in that area for 20 years before moving to the beach and have ridden all kinds of bikes through there, including the pedal type, great training ride with white knuckle high speed downhill

As much as I would love to go to Barber this weekend, I would rather compete than watch. I am going to be riding an AHRMA National trials event in Tn this weekend. (which sucks that they set them the same weekend) Ya'll have fun at Barbers.........and if you want great ribs,......hit Dreamland BBQ in Southside.
