Well, time goes on, still dont have a VFR but after haveing to sell a lovely Africa Twin fall/autum 2021 becouse sudden payments came around the corner (read divorce early same year)

a few pics of the Africa Twin 750, model 95

[image: large.20210529_123254.jpg.470678270fd51171a510a888dd9770d6.jpg][image: large.IMG_20211120_130358.jpg.27f10429cf2be3b6cefaa464eb8b947e.jpg]

So wanted a same kinda bike in spring 2022, so buoght a old cheap Transalp 600, 87 model, that a passed away fathers son sold, father had owned it for almost 15 years...

[image: large.IMG_20220512_220455.jpg.cda1ef3e798620f254d5f1bf708f055c.jpg]

It was tatty, but didn´t care of looks, it did run good, so planed to just ride it the summer or 2 and pass on as I have funds for a other Africa Twin.......

It had a few issues, forks where leaking, front brake was weak from the fork oil that had com on brake pads as disc.... small fixes I tought.....

Got myself new brake pads as fork seals, but it needed more that just brake pads

[image: large.IMG_20220521_192948.jpg.ba7a4dde81c86cc949b58d502aa674da.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220721_094917.jpg.4ff53e2e69ec38f833d95f93d010ab7b.jpg]

Belive it or not, the pistons in that calipper moved freely!

To order more parts.....

#2

I hapen to have old good brake discs from my old 1986 VFR750F, that happen to be the same!

But needed a rebuil kit for the calipper whit pistons, Ebay my friend again. New VS old

[image: large.IMG_20220720_144716.jpg.a755d6f700db7dccfe70709cbd7281b3.jpg]

Installed

[image: large.IMG_20220721_103811.jpg.8a96eb77451e500cd6a7ba28b00b8d7e.jpg]

As I ahd front wheel off I decided to change the worn out front tire, had a better arround... but new problems accured even the rim looked good from outside

[image: large.IMG_20220721_100934.jpg.21664d87b601a635105be955ba5d284c.jpg]

Not so good in inside.... But again found a better on Ebay

[image: large.IMG_20220714_194455.jpg.2906c210125b3683be5e664c42f88468.jpg]

Much better

[image: large.IMG_20220721_101058.jpg.eddf40538cbc73870e5918a576e38f0a.jpg]

Better wheel whit fresher tire as better brake disc as new wheel bearings ballanced.

So after this and a oil change, new air filter as spark plugs I was on the road again..

...untill the rear suspension sized! The linkage sized.....could not get that bolt out...

so did take hole swingarm out, and as it was in really bad state, I decided to replace it as linkage to shock whit a better second hand one...Ebay my friend again

[image: large.IMG_20220801_170530.jpg.a8847553296beac328ea6242028fd5f6.jpg]

Old nasty one

[image: large.IMG_20220801_170457.jpg.250a072d2111f0b8dbf91cece7f8e1cf.jpg]

The "new" old one instelled, much better!

But as rear wheel was of, inspected brake, and the shoes where shoot, so much the old owner had moved level one splince to have brakes!

[image: large.IMG_20220802_155718.jpg.a748f2d64902fa9710471385a2c473ac.jpg]

New vs old

and I did ride on a time again

#3

Then the leaking exhaust started bugging me, the silencer/muffler was shoot, headders rotten.... but foud better onec for ok money

[image: large.IMG_20220520_194328.jpg.c28a35cbc43db9299851f2da58c7d6da.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220520_194353.jpg.ea52180f84926bcbd5ca90bc38ded03a.jpg]

The bike had also some cracked plasting and found cheap ha front fender, headlight plastic as other plastic bettwen that as tank in white, so bike becam 2 colored

[image: large.IMG_20220526_175407.jpg.9d89a08cd62ee55d8737bce01f303d1f.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220526_174433-EFFECTS.jpg.9d55543e4f684f11068bea92797ea796.jpg]

Former bike owner was sur ea man that didn+t do anything unless needed, Brake level pull was steppy becos never lubed, as clutch, and the bad clutch cabel was not replaced, a pull back spring had been added as a odd button the shotcut the neutral light instead of replacing the bad neurtal light sensor....[image: large.IMG_20220518_095314.jpg.96c9ee258893670748c4b234483f69ee.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220519_185716.jpg.105147a8782f7e2c7beba7c48d1e0c03.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220514_092309.jpg.eb7fbf16326e7a59a972e5f62ee59375.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220514_092255.jpg.b6afddfb0d5d9ffb27945075ec252ae2.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220514_092249.jpg.7ff73c16e70cf0d9df60cd242bd9e67b.jpg]

By now I had also removed the crash bars that cam on the bike, 2 fastners didn´t fit properly so proberly for a other year Transalp? Might put them back one day...

[image: large.IMG_20220519_185704.jpg.cd66a9c5f386419456a3728644498662.jpg]

So then I noticed a bad thing more

[image: large.IMG_20220710_161004.jpg.c1d2bf8ba256cb653d8562040c814c4f.jpg]

The rear rim had cancer as well...

and also noticed the front sprocked started to snap on the splince of outcoming front sprocket axle..... bummer

did I mention I also did put a new chain on, the old was cracked, even sprockets like new, been standing outside?

Anyway at this point I parked the bike, last week I started it up, did start after all the standing! Amazing engine!

So I have scored a better rear wheel, got a sollution for the front sprocket problem aside splitting engine, a spechal front sprocket!

[image: large.IMG_20230213_211109.jpg.de8e42ce40bf644f75d40b408e8f46db.jpg]

But now I´m moving to a other city as house, so will be a time untill have time to work on this Transalp. It has moved to my bigger garage already whit my other bikes, the last 2 in the row is a friends bikes thro that I slowly try to make runners thro......

[image: large.IMG_20230319_150901.jpg.b57c202c6229bd791c7bf772d24bde79.jpg]

A pic from last summer whit my plated bikes

[image: large.IMG_20220809_102731.jpg.ab28d600da787d7411229ec0204d19b6.jpg]

So I have spent way more money on the Transalp I would have liked, but frankly I like the bike, even a ugly tatty old bike, very much!

So I migth just keep it and ride on, I have things to sort still like I mentioned, and have a nice header as small stuff to change, clutch still a bit odd feeling so might need some attention still..... as I move where I live will ride less offroad more on road, some gravel so likely like to get more road focused tires? we have to see what time as money allow

To be continued.....

A labour of love....

That is both a scary and impressive amount of work for a bike I'm sure you didn't think you'd have to put that much into before you get another Africa Twin.  Kudos to you for all that work and finding parts as cheaply as possible!  👍

Thanks!

Yes, way more effort was needed indeed, noe I have com to a point where I wounder is it wort to just love the Transalp a bit more and forget abaout a Africa Twin..... You get these nowdays to make for a Africa Twin look. https://www.perfect-fairings.com/product/honda-xl-600v-transalp-dual-headlight-front-fairing/  ... but you need to find headlights as faring bracket of a Aftica Twin first thro....can be hard

#8

Well been busy to move to a other city. Still need to get much stuff in there right place before continue to work on the Transalp, and other bikes as well to be ready for season.

I have order a new tire for the Transalp for the rear, it has a only 2,5 wide rim, and oem size on the first editions are 130/80 that are a bit to wide for that rim nowdays, so ordered a 120/90 that later Transalps have.

Also the FJ1200, a 1990 year model, still needs some TLC, buogth that as a non runner some years back. Had the carbs overhauled but still needs new diagrams. Still did a short trip to Sweden last August whit it, to Gotland iland, by ferry there of cuorse, The Transalp would have been better for that trip, but was still not complet then, so opted for the FJ, but had issues during the trip, like no idle as the diagrams did go shoot, as having to brake down engine rpm at times by rear brake....

[image: large.IMG_20220809_114442__01.jpg.531ec370f57573ba858388040582b9ad.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220810_112514.jpg.680df69c02852de1cb0d6d6dd429edc2.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220812_104742.jpg.33ee1de67f25a709ba459ae118d4d6d0.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220813_125654.jpg.af6128fc5e5bb491470264d8b66ae283.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220813_130507.jpg.4b277657c27738f1702f570a36a696e9.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220813_125710.jpg.2d872f391ab1970ecbab0c7f0c6ebbb4.jpg]

Then also the other fork seal blew during the trip....

[image: large.IMG_20220812_115419.jpg.827cdeedb03c32753aa099dd785bd524.jpg]

And did a first aid to not get to much oil on the brakes

[image: large.IMG_20220812_120502.jpg.5eebf5d4dd14bda06f4f75aa86acf9d5.jpg]

Was a shame the bike had the issues, as Gotland has a race track, the Gotlandring, and did visit to see where it was, but even you could enter for a lap that day opted to not as the bike had the issues it had.

[image: large.IMG_20220813_120521.jpg.07f78daac0b9737636ee7c71203d76f3.jpg][image: large.IMG_20220813_120537.jpg.00e7c91a3dc1f6a3d7a938db58df49eb.jpg]

Safe on the ferry, and dirty from the limestone dust....

[image: large.IMG_20220813_164417.jpg.92906c452647eff801fd5435888c5baf.jpg]

The clean again a few days later, after that it was taken of the road to wait for the comming repairs.

I have the new, rather expensive, diagrams, the fork seals, and just ordered a rebuil kit for the oem front brake M/C, already have one for the clutch M/C as slave. I did put on M/Cs from a 1990 CBR1000F (that I did brake down to parts) as the oem's did need rebuild to make the bike rideable, but want to test the orginals. they are 16mm ones, the honda are 14mm ones but work well actually!

Lovely. My FJs were always a pleasure to ride.

The work on the Transalp slowly go on, some new small stuff, handelbar change/paint as mirror make-up. Then next clutch cover off to find reason for why clutch release point change as you hold in clutch lever a while

[image: large.IMG_20230501_080938.jpg.ac013f120a264dc16cf10f0d4c28922f.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230501_083521.jpg.246a31789f87f68c0ff30aaef8eecad8.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230501_082012.jpg.4a9b220f786535550dd2b40f6d9b0326.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230501_163907.jpg.218343d171c57648b59ef64fbb31af50.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230501_163843.jpg.fd0b1d97a56393955f5839f02023b150.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230503_101723.jpg.750c9604f3fcbce33bb4fa7d553ac90d.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230503_104615.jpg.8e8c9c3e0425530ce63a9f5521fc047f.jpg]

And while Transalp waiting for more parts, a ride whit my TRX850 on now local roads, in fact twisty roads starts ~800 meters from my current home!

[image: large.IMG_20230513_132922.jpg.4f8643ba4d49cfe54e67bf45b90ec9f2.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230513_140327.jpg.019d8e5254bca0aa216b62a118fdcf67.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230513_140339.jpg.6c05ba79c55c4bf8452633377694c170.jpg]

#12

I'm green with envy. Always wanted one of those.

#13

As for a V35...  you should know better.........   🙂

#14

Well I sure hope I know better now, buoght a bike I consider a find.

1992 Honda CBR600 F, bike is issued in spring 1993, has had 2 owners before me, second of them has had it for 29 years! It has 41k kms, tires need replacement thro as they are Dunlop D220 from 2004/2006 that has tread like new. Bike is like new, runs great. Did testride it before the buy.

[image: large.IMG_20230605_171621.jpg.bb0f0307e38c78097c097517b25a6400.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230605_171631.jpg.3d8259f883efd5c54cf511a01d568a62.jpg]

I didn't get the bike home until today through, reason is I had nothing to bring it home as I did go to see it and after that I had a wrist operation, left hand this time, so no bike ride for me in a while, but a friend was kind enough to ride it home for me.

[image: large.IMG_20230612_124925.jpg.826194bf69251d04b85397a6d0185598.jpg]

Here on a stop on way home

[image: large.IMG_20230612_142054.jpg.d290a8697c110201227771c2af45de98.jpg]

Finally in my garage and wait for me to ride it! Well fresh tires first. The oil you see next to front wheel is from the FJ fork leg, it been moved closer to wall so the CBR fits in. Will take the oil from there as I can, the CBR front tire will be charged before a ride so no worry's.

#15

Nice taste in bikes...all of them!

#17

As I have my hand like this

[image: large.IMG_20230608_115642.jpg.a19534970ef4f07635e3608c454d3d81.jpg]

It's just to wait, but you can take a few pics of the CBR to show it's great condition

[image: large.IMG_20230613_084110.jpg.503edfbc44eecb6c8ebd90995620b860.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230613_083748.jpg.f817ae94ad7c2538867bcd87fa5837f3.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230613_083732.jpg.dbb08ddabcd4f8df1f9e29746b4d09b4.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230613_083830.jpg.3cfedd2232767fe3fd3b16f458ca1b25.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230613_084052.jpg.7fbbecdb8bb1dd695068c7bfa62226e1.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230613_083808.jpg.67603bcbe24d7d503fc706595510a38d.jpg]

[image: large.IMG_20230613_083845.jpg.c7afe933a6c8f384c9513e7fbf73b8a5.jpg]I think it's stunning condition myself, like new!

#18

It looks like it just came out of a time capsule! Sweet!

What is the deal with your hand?

#19
3 hours ago, Wald

It looks like it just came out of a time capsule! Sweet!

What is the deal with your hand?

Thanks, think so to.

My hand, well the dog, that is fast as muskular did see something behind me, it's rem over my shoulder and snapped my wrist, so a legiment reconstruction as a mislocated bone back to place in a operation that lasted 103 minutes.... Cast as stitches goes off next Wednesday, then a lighter cast for a while until fysical treatment starts mid July...

#20

Wow, that is a serious dog offense. I thought it was bad when my wife fell on her face (she had a black and blue face for 2 weeks) when her dog ran after another dog.

I bet you are burning to ride the new bike! I wish you speedy recovery!

#21

Well I got the stitches off and a new removable cast

[image: large.IMG_20230621_111736.jpg.6defbc3e9b03c07d2f11301002f2d638.jpg]

After this I did get a few bits for the Transalp

[image: large.IMG_20230622_133627.jpg.287a9cbc64172fb154b464a17d172731.jpg]

New brake as clutch level's, clutch priviot hole was oval as brake slightly bent on the onec on the bike. For turn signals you see reason in next picture

[image: large.IMG_20230622_163442.jpg.824286b0a3753f5def546f1344521451.jpg]

Also I have fresh tires for the CBR600 now waiting to be installed when I can

[image: large.IMG_20230620_195038.jpg.29bd430f6347f9c4a526d9f0502d1752.jpg]

Not a matching pair but hope they will work together ok

#22

That's a sad blinker. Heal quickly!

#23

Well, I slowly can do something, as pealing off the old clutch gasket.

[image: large.IMG_20230701_113903.jpg.8ba42bdf282392781a87f5945e41ec89.jpg]

Still alot left, slowly slowly......

Don't know if I informed what I think is reason the clutch bite point differs when you hold the clutch lever in for a while, well I think it's because the bearing, that the clutch relief level on clutch cover bush on, thro a spacer, doesn't rotate all time and has eaten material of the holder of the bearing. At least the bearing was totally loose in holder, so a few new bits, new bearing, holder, spacer as the relief level as its spring (not in picture)

[image: large.IMG_20230701_180443.jpg.16dce209015a41b23d2fc648ed91226d.jpg]

Waiting for mounting as I get old gasket off as the clutch cover bolt that former owner has broken

#24

So as I'm still 1½ handed, perhaps 1¼ handed don't stop me to work on bikes, at least when I can help a little whit the one getting better.

So today wheels of the CBR600F as read of the TRX850.

[image: large.IMG_20230704_192511.jpg.b7770571d594b41b5037dd8981963380.jpg]

So tomorrow I head to a friend to get the rubber changed

[image: large.IMG_20230704_192519.jpg.38a41256f0364e80a1a310e9d74b9a4f.jpg]

Some might wounder why the TRX850 rear wheel to....

#25

We'll need some TRX riding video with audio...please.

#26

Well will take a while until it's possible to make a ride video, my wrist say so.

So today got tires mounted at a friend's, opted for matching pair fot the CBR600 so the Roadtec 01 was mounted on the TRX850 rim.

[image: large.IMG_20230705_151727.jpg.e1563f9f588c891202d63142c14d1b16.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230705_151733.jpg.80d7b592b90457dbcbd95d65cbb5000e.jpg]

#27

Well, bikes finally stand on there own wheels, must say the TRX850 rear wheel is way more easy to take off/back that  the CBR600F2!

Also even the CBR is in a very very nice condition, all older bikes has there faults, so this CBR. A small panel inside fairing next to screen started to rattle like loose on the ride home, well it was loose!

[image: large.IMG_20230711_130150.jpg.5ceae41b4a29bfbdcddbc8ef029e9f05.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230711_130155.jpg.08b39569e9afba1c14b2abb5afc84532.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230711_130200.jpg.ee8f4d8a8b024f426fcd90d9c5337759.jpg]

Well nothing that some epoxy can't fix

#28

That a bummer!

#29

Finally some progress on the Transalp

[image: large.IMG_20230718_095109.jpg.46ee5e96c93b7707a4647292f5a401b0.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230718_095735.jpg.1cd1d21d1fc113fb558a4f51d8546931.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230718_113635.jpg.d76cc7f221c886ebb444c8c97c6e9bc7.jpg]

Clutch back as headers installed.also new clutch lever in place.

#30

It's amazing what a heat gun can do to sun faded plastic

[image: large.IMG_20230728_145852.jpg.86bfca7171da8085f80721b588ae64e4.jpg]

The Transalp has also muffler installed, and fresh tyre on the better second hand rear rim. No pics of that thro.

I also have started a other project, the FJ will get a 17" rear rim.

[image: large.IMG_20230718_154511.jpg.d9b47b03c338035185139a461f59c62b.jpg]

Got a 94' FZR600R rim for 40€

Then I buoght the rest needed from a breaker of a YZF600R Tinder at that has same rim, spacers as brake discs and brake caliper bracket

[image: large.IMG_20230728_112839.jpg.f6523a3dd7cb61993fff1446cdaa2ff6.jpg]

The breaker did not only brake down bikes fortunately, it also just sell on good bikes as build together bikes from parts. Good for these 2 in next pic's

[image: large.IMG_20230728_112429.jpg.cd79227a4e62c45170287f735f48f647.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230728_112307.jpg.f7ae7d687ca4fbfa47aa34b972b4bbac.jpg]

Sure would not mind a 85" slabby Gixxer 750 in my garage!

#31

So some small progress on Transalp even today.

Ballansed the rear wheel that I mounted a fresh tire on yesterday. It got mounted today on bike to. As wheel was off I mounted the superpinion front sprocket to help whit the worn splines.

[image: large.IMG_20230729_175321.jpg.e67d0fe861c99bc2051ecf25c9981e80.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230729_175930.jpg.204a74306e051f00b70ac9c94a74e06e.jpg]

Also the new turn signals got mounted, actually before the rear wheel was changed as you see the old wheel on bike in the picture

[image: large.IMG_20230729_123739.jpg.2d3f9c48ecd2c86ac4df9c50c889db12.jpg]

Then also mounted the right panel between tank and front fairing, that before was mounted whit a bolt at lower tank mount and was missing lower mount that I now fabricated, not pritty but works. The missing tab I did take from the other side panel that I changed for a better last summer. It's glued to panel but also a scruv thro the hole it had, just to be sure

[image: large.IMG_20230729_175942.jpg.712fc3f3bf60af7f130a796b0843cbb0.jpg]

[image: large.IMG_20230729_175956__01.jpg.776698c7500e1322ea0bd81bf78424dc.jpg]

Tomorrow just to mount the plastic skid plate under engine and check tyre pressure as add oil to engine! Then to fire up and wait until I get the right front brake lever, shop accidentally gave me a wrong one, part numbers has one digi difference. Will get it on Tuesday.

Well the Transalp is back together

[image: large.IMG_20230730_111147.jpg.6c99f806de50c6ff58fbdf8d57f4fc96.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230730_111210.jpg.d78a126205ac32e87e618042ee9f9afb.jpg]

But as the bike been just work, and the 87-88 models has some parts that are super rare to find, like oil pump chain as gearbox outgoing shaft, I decided to list the Transalp and actually got it sold yesterday! It's still in my garage thro, as buyer is picking it up whitin 2weeks.

And as I don't want to be whit out a adventure type bike, I hunted for a new one. I was looking at a 2004 650 V-strom in a shop that could have been reached if I would have traded in the TRX850, but decided to not, but I didn't want a thumper, so yesterday evening a nice looking 1996 Kawasaki KLE500 turned up not far from where I live, so did go and check it out, And guess what....

[image: large.IMG_20230805_121055.jpg.5126fd19ec82890b85aa17d7f093f108.jpg]

Yes, it followed me home!

Paid 200€ less than I got for the Transalp!

Needs basic TLC as fresh tires, as the onec on bike are from 2004/2005! Front is worn out as has cracks, rear has some tread left but time for new ones.

[image: large.IMG_20230805_121658.jpg.1dacedaafe6bb4c181963b12ea4357b1.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230805_185944.jpg.44b4794812f123e44a6295789ae06300.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230805_121707.jpg.0ebdfe55ace642c4c86a9144707349b1.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230805_190013.jpg.3bc741471685718e6b68226c41ee6f24.jpg]

Aside for light corrosion on brake calipers as clutch side engine cover it's in really nice condition, 42600kms on odometer, could actually be that all is there as you look on bike, still OEM seat cover and it's like new! Bike has a nice 2-1 full Remus exhaust system.

[image: large.IMG_20230805_184047.jpg.b940f76b07660aa9904815f9bdb18f3c.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230805_184053.jpg.0667279b4c3887c308e8ae9d1430e94e.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230805_184039.jpg.718f8ff0be570623410aad7c0a5f3ac7.jpg]

Now in my garage waiting for the tlc to be done

[image: large.IMG_20230805_190523.jpg.d9a2f2df016c2c94e61bc6b7d4db8c54.jpg]

#33

Love the look of them both...and the rest of your fleet.

#34

The Transalp has left the building.

Last pictures before new owner picked it up

[image: large.IMG_20230806_113518.jpg.b5dc2cf10d056cac0551a53375793f62.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230806_113507.jpg.63476f91d016a489fd8918ffbc1305c7.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230806_113538.jpg.217db59e6947f6967b7a315a3a4d207f.jpg]

And the TLC= go thro the bike, has begun whit the KLE500

[image: large.IMG_20230807_211346.jpg.59a56bbda4daddc838d4c3a1ca6832db.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230807_211324.jpg.4f1c47ad442c1d9f7fa7388b45128f08.jpg]

It always turn into a bigger thing than planned, hopefully not mad this time 😂

#35

So the KLE500 needed new shoes, a rear I had but needed a front, found a fearly fresh, DOT21,  Metzeler Karoo Street front for 25€ plus shipping, 34€ at my door. It's slightly used, I know they slightly howl så reason former owner did take it off from a bike he just buoght, I don't mind a low howl.

[image: large.IMG_20230811_143229.jpg.84fe915064c3cc0d45b8346dfca12aa3.jpg]

[image: large.IMG_20230811_143219.jpg.01e28037efa977fbfeeab2376d940ad2.jpg]

Then I did take carburators off for a clean

[image: large.IMG_20230808_141022.jpg.39d476b93ada11a592d1138f720e3af3.jpg]

In to the ultrasonic cleaner all did go

[image: large.IMG_20230808_141039.jpg.55dbe086eb1374182d47718df39ab69e.jpg]

As you see in picture new sparkplugs to replace the old. A bit digging let me know the older models has richer jetting as a bigger air filter box snorkel, haven't found a big snorkel yet but carb tuning bits found and on way. Talking of air filter, new was sure needed!

[image: large.IMG_20230808_141014.jpg.3e6ea79b578e368f6d8c705304b42e55.jpg]

So good to go through a bike as you buy it.

I also will put fresh chain and sprockets, got them the other day

[image: large.IMG_20230819_144113.jpg.164dea8a108fd274f3d5279f527b1d27.jpg]

And same time spoon on the rear. Would have preferred a bit more street ordinered tire, but the Mitas E07+ I have will do for now. It's a so called 60/40 tire street/off-road rato, the Karoo Street is a 70/30.

Here them next to each other

[image: large.IMG_20230811_143234.jpg.cf54273833de02e4b300ca4c6a942374.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230811_143326.jpg.fa206a88e78cfc1b6bf7ca5e1f784252.jpg]

#36

Slow progress but still some.

[image: large.IMG_20230828_114607.jpg.2a97d8a1b314cf052c4fed9f9fc8a92b.jpg]

Carbs ready to go back on bike, Will Be nice to see how it runs whit the kit I got for them!

But first some other things to sort. Chain as sprockets first, front sprocket holding nut was really tight! Needed a friends help to get it loose! Well actually more than juts a friend, a long steel tube on the power shaft also!

Old front sprocket was wrong way mounted! So explain why the chain was ruined before sprockets was worn out. Sadly a new thing to get also, the other chain adjuster block in end of swingarm is cracked!

[image: large.IMG_20230828_114545.jpg.5d1cc1f5b1e97c36b07cfeade57c5031.jpg]

The small part fell off as I opened the adjustment nuts.....

#37

There’s usually some of them on eBay ….one of mine was cracked and did the same thing

#38
17 hours ago, Thumbs

There’s usually some of them on eBay ….one of mine was cracked and did the same thing

Yes, I have one located at a local breaker

#39

Well some more progress, carburators are back on!

[image: large.IMG_20230829_091932.jpg.9de5704729acfdeceed5a3f8b264cc64.jpg]

And a good thing I decided to change the O-rings in the tubes between the carbs, they might have been the reason for the fuel leak

[image: large.IMG_20230829_092938.jpg.46c7a688d8a2f0178f06bc26b705475d.jpg]

Then fresh chain as sprockets, looks so nice just a short time. The fresh rear tire was mounted as wheel off to

[image: large.IMG_20230829_091946.jpg.dae638d229364b6bb17296a2feb4ecaf.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230829_120659.jpg.78083d1dcb48d0e76912d316f507e524.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230829_120707.jpg.de52f6be65e40e277a266d550737fad9.jpg]

The rear tire, a Mitas E07+ is quite huge in size for a 130/80-17! It's close to rubbing in fact, even it's a skinny 2,5" wide rime that these bikes got, even by norm the rim is to skinny 🤔

[image: large.IMG_20230829_120824.jpg.01be8f1d9faea449be73b88b821bcef0.jpg]

But it will be there until it's worn out, then have to consider if I go down in size to a 120/90 to get a better profile on tire.

Next is to fire up engine and sync the carbs, then tank, seat as panels back and it's ready for a test ride!

#40

So the bike finally come together

[image: large.IMG_20230903_123108.jpg.83f83de6e27e50f9fa36720cabb07f58.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230903_123054.jpg.4b24d676727204be9d7fba0f2bd2899f.jpg]

and it was time for a test ride, both for riders wrist as the bike, well the rider did better than the bike.

[image: large.IMG_20230903_173814.jpg.72eb73bb445768329a91c44cf800205e.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230903_181012.jpg.767f1680a0e69906e2083c072c2773af.jpg]

It runs fine from idle to 4k rpm then it starts to jerk and won´t poll as should, at 7k it starts to pull som again....so have to look into it. only 2 oprions, doesn´t get fuel or R/R is shoot.

Well got the chain adjuster plate from the bracker, did pick it up

[image: large.IMG_20230903_094755.jpg.4352005175ddb5ee3b74f0c2c0750288.jpg]

as I was there I also buoght a rear brake disc guard, but sadly I need a other part to make it fit my bike

[image: large.IMG_20230903_123028.jpg.2a2e7b06361fb22dd0379665b500a1bc.jpg]

As you can see from picture other mounting tab is broken off.... well a good condition one is on way, score on Ebay.

[image: large.IMG_20230903_123040.jpg.8b7d29e2cc9f36ffc93535e81bcad137.jpg]

Also will try to find a right side passenger foot peg as there is a pit missing...

But the highlight of the wisit to that motorcycle breaker was this bike in next picture, that the owner of the breacker did say he will save!

[image: large.IMG_20230901_122203.jpg.bd997d3bc22ab3a1e64c48ca8fef1cf6.jpg]

Yes a 1986 VFR750F Interceptor!  😍😍😍

Well as the KLE didn´t run good, but I was in for a ride I decided to take the 1992 CBR600F2 for a spin.

It did start but did run a bit bad becourse of sitting all summer. So first to the fuel pump for soem fresh fuel. but after the fill up it refused to start.... after almost battery empty found the classic thing, kill switch in bettwen on as off! must have touched it as pushed bike of center stand. After that it startded but didnt run on all cylinders below 4k rpm...gues a sprk plug has fouled...hopelfully

[image: large.IMG_20230903_185254.jpg.d2b9ff94d4b04b35b3432d8183b2684d.jpg]

Did anyway go for a spin.

If you suggenst I could have taken the TRX850 instead, I could not, its gone, It partly became this thing in next picture (sorry not a motorcyle!)

[image: large.IMG_20230815_105212.jpg.5b32df2c63afe01f8bfc3861ad7beb92.jpg]

And the FJ1200 still wait for some love... hopefully next winter I have time for it.

#41

Cool!

It seems like your bikes rev to only 4k...maybe it is you? 😇

Cool!

It seems like your bikes rev to only 4k...maybe it is you? 😇

😂 Only the KLE didn't like to rev more than 4k, the CBR just liked more than 4k rpm 😁

Tomorrow I get new sparkplugs for the CBR and hopefully change them Saturday as test KLE voltage

#43

Well, if you have it to easy at your jobb you can make offers on bikes, so I did on Friday, offer was approved and result was this:

[image: large.IMG_20230908_191352.jpg.1b0e25a92c21f7c398a8fe1693075b04.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230908_191403.jpg.e39efd1d12ad669fb86ae5a5d9378bce.jpg]

A 1986 VFR750 F that runs for 500 Euro

[image: large.IMG_20230909_091003.jpg.c31989f857197b9ec41d69267ee644aa.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230909_085036.jpg.96992f7d8515c1bfbc1728a4b9a5ff76.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230909_085018.jpg.757ca71babe1b54efdc5c9298aea1e62.jpg]

Picture nice but a bit rough indeed. Nice things are a Devil 4-1 exhaust, front brake discs nearly new, one year old battery as R/R and stiffer fork springs. As fairly good tires!

[image: large.IMG_20230909_081744.jpg.aec86db3f87244285f1da54403911237.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230909_081752.jpg.5227c4d8032e4bae4378a4d96a2eab66.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230909_081808.jpg.8cbcbd9ae9309c7b03c10c0923bad444.jpg]

[image: large.IMG_20230909_081814.jpg.0727a7be8ad79bb899b25e0e0cea9cc5.jpg]

But needs a new clutch line!

[image: large.IMG_20230909_082820.jpg.64758fd1552b942da2c7ffc451ee5554.jpg]

Not a repair I like....

Faring inners panels are missing

[image: large.IMG_20230909_082832.jpg.917deaf5da837798650816ffef0654c7.jpg]

And needs a seat cover

[image: large.IMG_20230909_082839.jpg.bb2dc2b5c0c6335bb1cfb3222d87b5b0.jpg]

And has a few cracks in farings but not to bad.

Biggest issue is that engine dies suddenly like ignition is switch off ....when runs it runs good. It dies after a 5-10 minutes, then starts after a 10-15 minutes wait and dies again efter a shorter time than first time it dies. 🤔

#44

Did a 100km leg today whit CBR, finally got it running as should, new spark plugs didn't help but ½ a can BG 44K did it! Wounderfull stuff![image: large.IMG_20230911_134616.jpg.0024ce76811de1c0d8038d17d750bd7f.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230911_133100.jpg.b2dc621b5ffd453e881a367218c692c2.jpg]

#45

Some progress whit the KLE500.

Did pull carbs off, had a friend before that hear how it runs, a Kawasaki guru, and he agreed whit me it's runs, like he said "scary lean"

Whit the setup I have , small snorkel as jet kit for large snorkel it should run ritch. The needle jets looks odd to me.. kit jet at right, OEM left

[image: large.IMG_20230913_092319.jpg.ed712a5d520e1710bf00f7eb960bef68.jpg][image: large.IMG_20230913_092140.jpg.5f7699b5b9d4f07fb800e9f3d08fccfb.jpg]

The gold colored is from the kit of the needles, the other to OEM, Strang left ass right carb has different needle as main jets.

Anyway did put all back to OEM specific and vola bike runs ok again, even a tad lean still, but that's because of the aftermarket full exhaust.

Also got the holder for brake disc protecter

[image: large.IMG_20230913_084559.jpg.35bbb70931f55a9fd09b2ebdf0b21c4f.jpg]

And foot thing the mounting bolts came whit the one I ordered!

Them mounted

Next out enjoying the nice weather for time of year on the CBR600

Do regular cars fit on roads that narrow? 🙂

Even big trucks fit, no problem ,speed limit mostly 60km/h, some parts 70km/h

#49

Finally made time to synk the carbs on KLE. And before that did pot O-rings under needle to give it more fuel as needles not adjustable.

[image: large.IMG_20231001_123038.jpg.8d982024985cd66aa3f147ac4af8dfba.jpg][image: large.IMG_20231001_123034.jpg.772f5638ba09681a662829dd0c35ae07.jpg]

After that did a test ride that did show it runs good enough, perhaps a tad lean still but ok for now.

[image: large.IMG_20231001_143434.jpg.a030cc1fa51de56fcc3c2dcb0f9c5577.jpg][image: large.IMG_20231001_143443.jpg.59abfcce0773064c502104e4f0a66681.jpg]

Great fall weather for sure!

And bike sure ride well and whit this bike no need to avoid paved roads in no so good condition or gravel roads.

#50

Well, I have to say the Remus exhaust on the KLE is to Loud for my liking, sadly,

[image: large.IMG_20230805_184053.jpg.0667279b4c3887c308e8ae9d1430e94e.jpg]

The muffler looks like it's not easily opened for service.

It does have a db killer but sounds it's whit out backing inside

[image: large.IMG_20231015_133907.jpg.83511cf91973dafdca86381b05269c85.jpg][image: large.IMG_20231015_133940.jpg.2d1a2ccea17879dcd9d1440f47478cf5.jpg]

But decided to take it off to see what can be done, but didn't start good as you will see in next picture.....

[image: large.IMG_20231016_151648.jpg.3d2df1d7867b2d60390adfee2aae9326.jpg]

Has been there a while, also muffler still not off ....

#51

I once bought a LHS Remus for redslut...

Turned out it was one for a 3rd gen, and that meant chopping one of the centre stand mounting points.

The muffler was stamped with "not for public roads" or so.

IT WAS 'FFING LOUD!!

Well this is same category even the "not for public roads " stamp is missing 😅

Well might be that a circle ends.... might... awaiting informatoin if front sprocket axle is ok on this 1991 Africa Twin 750

[image: large.1295ae4176f7a713-large.jpg.6d662e367ed5ca87398fe850e13b21c3.jpg]

if it is this will most likely move to my garage, and the KLE leave as a trade. Offer is I get 40% more for the KLE in trade value compare to what I paid for it! And get a Africa Twin again, even a older RD04 compare to the RD07 I had, and sure not the lovely Tricolor (RWB), but is the second best color (aside the 3 different RWB that was offered) the RD04 had, and the only aside the RWB I could think of to have. But fingers crossed, hope to know more next week.....

#54

Sadly no Africa twin to my garage yet,

The sprocket axle was quite worn so I did pass the deal.

[image: large.IMG_20231122_104517670.jpg.81f53c9dab096556dadb8c76b804fba4.jpg]

#55

With how clean everything is, the previous owners must have had that cover off quite often.  I'm really surprised they weren't better about replacing the c/s sprocket more often and general chain maintenance.

#56

Well some say I change bikes like some trousers 😂 well can be true in a way...

I was disappointed the Africa Twin was not good.

But also started to think that after moving closer to twisty tarmac roads I'm not that after riding gravel roads, the KLE500 is also better as more fun on tarmac than gravel, but the seat is narrow, suspension a bit to soft, so a road bike is better, and the loud exhaust bugged me as silencer was not repackable and a orginal exhaust did not exist for reasonable money. I do however like to get a prime ride that is comfortable for my left knee, the one I killed a deer 2012 whit as I did hit one whit left knee. It has started bother a bit...

So I started a search for a bike whit a comfortable seating position whit a top fairing.

Then I asked for offer's if I gave KLE500 in trade. Found a 03 Kawasaki ZR7S that looked promising and offer for my KLE was ok.

The ZR7S had only had 3 owners and 39K kms on odo

[image: large.Screenshot_20231123-130607.jpg.1e0e6393e631f0a0094719c12a59bf6d.jpg]

Did go and see it but was a disappointment, front tire shoot, dirty like not washed in years and rear wheel had loads of chain muck, corrosion here as there, front brake did feel odd and clutch was heavy to pull even reviews say it's light, carb inlet rubbers had small cracks....even the blue paint was nice, it was a walk away.... Former owner had just not cared for the bike....

So nearby that was a shop that had a tidy looking 2001 Suzuki Bandit 600S, and he offered even better for my KLE! The bike was sure nice, 52k kms, just have had a full service including valve clearance check. Orginal aside front indicators, front screen as clutch/brake levels. So whit a money of 400€ in between I pulled the trigger 🙈😊

Here in the states, you can't give those ZX7S bikes away. Just too many better choices available.

That 600 will be just great. Congrats!

My first bike was a red ZR-7S.  It was really too big a bike for my first, adult motorcycle but I managed not to hurt myself on it.  Several months after buying that bike I sold it to a friend and upgraded to a 6th gen VFR.

Looking back, that ZR was actually a pretty good bike, though I think it was kind of known for being a 'parts bin' bike, cobbled together from parts Kawasaki was already making for other machines.  They are rare to see now, and I always smile when I do see one.  🙂

It is funny that you type that. I feel similar to my GS700ES. I still think it is one of the more handsome motorcycles made to this day...but I may be alone! At least we're not off topic...

80's lipstick on a groovy 70's chick.  I think that's a pretty good looking bike too.  Always liked the big GS/GSX1100ES too.

I digged (late) 70's chicks, being from 1962, my world had begun to open up 🙂

D220 on the cbr?! BLASPHEMY! Lol

i ran those on my GIXXER1100 back in the day. Never on my cbrs 😁

i love old tire stories

#68

The D220 was great until the cupping!

#69

So worked a bit on the Bandit, the screen it came whit was tinted as had some cracks that where glued.

[image: large.IMG_20231216_091143.jpg.ed627cb2b1523d5eb930499748b8a167.jpg]

I found a OEM clear (used) on eBay

[image: large.IMG_20231216_093404.jpg.155045bc00f44e8b6e58abb4cb5f6c7c.jpg]

Much better I think. Also the old screen sure has been thro something as the upper attachment tabs where broken off, so former owner had glued it in place, fortunately whit cheap universal fast glue so nothing broken when taking apart.

#70

Now there is light in my garage, you even see if you need to clean the floor 😂

[image: large.IMG_20231217_114724.jpg.3290be3b53b0ab3fdb9f3e2abbe52472.jpg]

So what to do on Christmas evenings morning as all else asleep?

Rebuild clutch as brake master cylinder for the FJ1200.

[image: large.IMG_20231224_101133.jpg.14a09332f33851d6e9cac6324f229759.jpg]

I had a TourMax kit for the clutch as a AllBalls for the brake. Both kits had all needed but where still slightly different,

The TourMax kit came whit a new piston aside the seals and other small stuff needed but not whit new screw's for cap.

The AllBalls kit didn't come whit new position (old was ok so no problem) but all other stuff as new screw's for the cap as cupper washers for brake line! That was not included in the clutch kit by TourMax for clutch.

#72

Sadly no progress on the motorbike side, but did get myself a other 2 wheel project/puzzle

[image: large.IMG20231117132313.jpg.7a52d526fafbc8dc8c85dac8149102a8.jpg.62e589645eab1ef275e607e811b06b20.jpg][image: large.IMG20231117132834.jpg.8b1dbf87b3a2c0c896af1002cbbc0aeb.jpg.04c411035a310b404c7a4a5a965890e2.jpg]

A trail hardtail mountain bike frame whit fork as a few bits. That on Saturday morning...

But then did Covid strike so been keeping low profile. On way better through

Started to think what bikes have I owned the last 10-12 years?

Let's see.....

1991 VFR750F, did like it a lot but the engine had a nocking sound on idle like a con rod bearing so did go further

[image: IMG_20190926_180955.jpg.c29836c6ce210efba16c4ea49084236d.jpg]

2006 Husky WR250, fun but still have scars from it....had yellow as blue plastic as buoght but changed to more patriotic for me white instead of yellow.

[image: IMG_20190805_170925.jpg.00991668f429550b3aca2e30c2931c67.jpg]

2005 KTM250 rfs as 86 Yamaha IT200S, the later buoght as parts in boxes, later sold as needed money after divorce, bummer as it was nice!

[image: large.Screenshot_20240107-134823.jpg.7979d032b16fc13a7b530b1c63c28bc1.jpg]

[image: large.IMG_20200422_184735.jpg.300ac75d81522da256ed3e3711491e78.jpg]

2010 SuperTenere 1200, only thing I didn't like was the limited (big time) ground clearance!

[image: large.IMG_20200307_172927.jpg.c8efbc7aa50de90d204368f957a590dc.jpg]

2009 XT125X, buoght from a friend as project for son but he never got the license so as it was ready traded it for bike in next picture

90 CBR1000F, most comfortable seat I ever had on a motorcycle! Did fall in trailer during transport as I moved and frame got a dent, did sell it in parts, still have fork and front brake as some bolts around.

[image: large.Screenshot_20200715_162923.jpg.c47532d3e0aa61b7f801eecb02ebb673.jpg]84 FJ1100, buoght as project but needed to much so sold as parts

[image: large.IMG_20201029_104643.jpg.5c659d0285ee6b779b807d251e65a70f.jpg]

#74

Aye, that's the Keny I know..  :goofy:

A new temp sensor came today for the CBR600F2

[image: large.IMG_20240108_182653.jpg.fe793610bf55caf65a743c46b1ab4791.jpg]

As the temp meter didn't show readings last summer so tough it's good to change

#76

Did feel smell of fuel as I did go down to garage today, sadly the Bandit 600 had started to leak fuel from carbs

[image: large.IMG_20240113_154309.jpg.7811c51dbc453b4547f71066f85a7d50.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240113_154341.jpg.91446ae471b200355d6594939e6dc707.jpg]

Leaking from both connector pipe as one float bowl.

So not that good start whit the Bandit, bummer.

Seems the fuel tap is leaking thro so it needs a rebuild kit, have to see if carbs needs to be taken off to...

As I did take of tank and put it in position it doesn't leak, it didn't go smoothly, the 2 pipes that attached to bottom of tank, one smaller (tank breath pipe) as bigger (drain from fuel cap) the bigger didn't just come along from bike so had to take it off tank, and it was full of water! Well as I later found out, it was plugged!

[image: large.IMG_20240113_155327.jpg.78aedced4459bfd419f88f04b7400d7c.jpg]

Mostly I wounder why! Hopefully the pipe inside tank has not a hole.... hopefully just a person that doesn't know what he is doing that been working on the bike, but even that tough is not so nice...

The good thing is that as I bought this in a shop and contacted them and they will pay the fuel tap rebuild kit and if anything more they want to know so promising that way...

#77

Well some more recearch done.

The smaller tube it attached to the rubber inside fuel cap and it's the breather pipe,

[image: large.IMG_20240114_103402.jpg.acf90f0d08e2ae6a2544e8c08a32d587.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240114_103158.jpg.d13b076f260e0e84d57c15b68b6d4bfd.jpg]

As blow in the small tube air comes thro.

The bigger tube, after taking the plug out, if you blow into it you hear air comes out inside tank! This should not happen, as fuel cap removed there is a plastic cone in it!

[image: large.IMG_20240114_103423.jpg.b9c01bcfb4c0d042a4cd22969006d279.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240114_103224.jpg.ed168a367bde0d7fb99aa355ba053c9d.jpg]

And this is not a OEM part! As you blow in the bigger tube air comes out from hole the cone was in, so it's the drain from fuel cap, but if you put a finger on the hole you just hear air comes out inside tank, so clearly this is a repair to fix a drain tube leaking inside tank, bummer 😞. Well have to see how shop respond to this...

And it's not all! As I happen to look at other brake caliper there is a sign of a leak, no drops on flor yet but fluid in between rubber brake tube and pressed banjo. But no leak as you pull brake lever and put pressure in system, weard![image: large.IMG_20240114_103509.jpg.b85282d7d86de40930dc305690b319b3.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240114_103502.jpg.d626fe0a666d7b643e8ce28700a382b9.jpg]

Starting to think bike might need to go back to shop and money to my account.....

#78

That last sentence I would suggest now indeed Keny.

A serving of whipped cream on a pile of shyte does not make it less off a pile of shyte.... 😁

#79

I there is any opportunity to return it...   do it!

You can't polish a turd. 😉

#81

Well contacted the sell company, a one man company, and he is not willing to whit draw the trade I did as he doesn't have the KLE500 anymore, but offered to pay back the in between money to let me fix it.... Well sure better than non.... But ideal would been to get the KLE trade in value also in cash and let him have the Bandit back..... Oh well....

#82

Live and learn......

Do not tell your employer you did a lousy job of inspecting (prior to buying)  :goofy:

#83

Well, the bike did feel like a good alternative as I inspected it... Didn't have these issues then...oh well.

As I spent a bit more time inspecting the bike, looks like I was wrong that the fluid on front clipper is brake fluid, it's not, it's most likely fork oil!

[image: large.IMG_20240115_185531.jpg.6700c33d2cf1b25e35d2e0a2d9b8ab9b.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240115_185520.jpg.e14ae4af0377a8bc79ef8c8bbcef1906.jpg]

So this makes I have 3 set of forks that needs to be done 🙈

#84

A bit of brain storming has made me wounder if I could use the tank breather as drain from tank cap? Would be possible if you modify the cap outer ring by taking off the part between tank as cap that has the rubber, and let cap just breath thro the hole from inside cap outer. Like tank caps before. The system is to not letting out petrol gases in hot weather, but as I live in a not that hot climate should not be a problem. Only problem I see is the breather tube is smaller diameter thro perhaps not a deal breaker as you can see the hole better whit cap open compare to the orginal drain and if the bike stands in rain on side stand the drain will not happen before the bike stand up.  Hmmm

#85

Had a tool that you can peak inside things whit borrowed from a friend and did a look inside the Bandit tank

[image: large.IMG_20240204_081716.jpg.00cda9e8ce902a2a2c2e899151bffe64.jpg]

The connections of the tube , both upper as lower looks good. After this I did plug the upper end and sprayed WD40 into the tub from below (tank upside down) and the leak is after first bend from top so would be possible to cut the metal tube and put a good oil resistant rubber tube in between I think, but it needs to be cut open anyway, might be soldier is a good option to.

Next what I think is the small hole it leaks thro?

[image: large.IMG_20240204_084550.jpg.7446530c8d11f609b9f607eea53bf041.jpg]

I think the metal tube is corrode from inside, the upper part as you see inside the tube there is corrosion but not from down looking up. You can't go long in, first bend and the end of this doesn't go deeper

#86

My garage getting more and more organized, and it's time to start to work on the other bike's aside the VFR.

[image: large.IMG_20240303_145600.jpg.6d154116a18b57852fe496decfeb514c.jpg]

The FJ needs fork seal change as new diagrams in the carburetors, I have the parts needed. Then the suspension linkage needs also needs some love as it sounds dry. Would love a standard screen instead of the spoiler one that just makes turbolance.

The CBR600 would like a carburetor clean even you could ride it as it is.

I do have been thinking of maybe reducing the bike account..... Mainly as I don't need 4 bikes ( 5 if you count my KDX200 dirt bike that isn't road legal), yes I like bikes and could have a few sport bikes just to look at but mainly like to have bikes I can ride also.

But first all need to be in good riding stat to get best price. Mainly thinking of selling 2 and keep 2 and for the money of the 2sold buy a bike for gravel roads as well, a adventure like bike......

#87

FJs are lovely...

#88

Well it's strange sometimes, you make a good plan to reduce number of motorcycle s you have in your garage, then a few days later a Japanese bumblebee arrive to your garage 🙈

As many bikes I have buoght, the price is low and the bike needs some work.

This bike has a interesting story, former owner buoght it to enter a multi day enduro competition in the classics class as friends from his youth tempted him to come along. He buoght a low mileage bike that was in running order, did take off all extra (mirror's, turn signals..) mounted studded tires and started practice for the race. Eventually entered the race, a winter race, but had a flat in first special test and had a DNF because had not a spare tube or tools to do it along, had planned to ride race on the one tire as there more for fun than competition. I have mixed thoughts of this man, he seems very organized as he did tape all bolts to the part he did take off so easy to know where they belong, still to get the grips changed he cut the other bar weight bolt as it didn't come loose, and worse, he did ride whit the rear studded tire even it was to big diameter and the ends of studded hitting the swingarm!!!! good a good one came along. Mechanical it needs just a few things (aside swing arm change), the decompression oil seal is leaking in cylinder head, carbs need cleaning, don't run Idle but does run whit chocke and sounds good. Has some cosmic bads, fuel tank especially as paint has gone off, probably rubbing against something on way to practice. He seems to like duck tape also, lots of tape here as there even for no reason... lots of cleaning as torn off.

And needs propper size tires that I did pick up on way home, now a NHS front mx tire, rear a 140/80-18 FIM enduro tire, OEM size 110/80-18!

But the more I look close on bike the more I'm convinced the milage on odometer is all the bike has covered. I happen to have the brochure of this bike to!

Cool.  My first real Enduro / Trail bike was an '86 TT350.  Loved that bike and the dual overhead cam engine revved out real good.

Cool.  My first real Enduro / Trail bike was an '86 TT350.  Loved that bike and the dual overhead cam engine revved out real good.

I sure like the TT350 as well, sure cool bike

This XT350 actually has a place in my heart if you can say so, because at age on 16 in 1988, near a friends summer home there was one standing at a other summer homes driveway and as I often visited that friend we did stop and dorl on the motorcycle that was a XT350 in exactly same colors! Yamaha used same colors for 3 years in a row fron 1988-90

#91

Forgot to mention I did get a set road tires along that was on the bike as former owner bought it, but they were just to throw in the trash can, DOT stamp say 0196 as 4401 (front/rear) so hard as a rock!

[image: large.IMG_20240305_084109.jpg.8f5f40f66e4314250fdc72db7ca5400d.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240305_084136.jpg.d58d2c25d6d6923775b14e9e9fd05320.jpg]

Well a small progress on XT, did install the new front tire as brake disc cover

[image: large.IMG_20240309_094613.jpg.65ff99a29a18170b31fa65594168fba6.jpg]

Well I think I have figured out why former owner could not continue the race he entered, the front tire had a bib mousse inner tube that is basically a solid inner tube that give a similar thing as a normal tube whit 0.8-1 bar pressure. The rear has a normal tube so probably the rear bib mousse did melt of the heat ...

[image: large.IMG_20240309_103548.jpg.5ebdf863cb3e63b9984277922dabb434.jpg]

Anyway wounder where he found this front Michelin tire, model is C68, never heard of a model named that

[image: large.IMG_20240309_103702.jpg.26385cf861e70ea8bcd05dba30d2e697.jpg]

The dot stamp says week 45 83!

[image: large.IMG_20240309_103625.jpg.8554d5ecbfa61154c2906d5617533c61.jpg]

Taking off the seat to take away the last of duck tape, that is used all over the bike, found a issue that needs to be sorted

[image: large.IMG_20240309_094635.jpg.e43dceecc010c1f42d3794984596d50b.jpg]

Also the air filter was not oiled.... Better go thro the bike good to be safe

It's details that matter, specially if you like to have a motorcycle pass a classic inspection (to be proved it's in excellent orginal condition), a inspection my CBR600F2 have today. So last minute thing is to change license plate bolts to ones that have a white cap

I like your attention to detail!

Do the license plates have to be that size, legally, in Finland? If so, is the plate size strictly enforced?

Here in Ireland it depends on the Garda (our police). Some don't care, some will use it as an excuse to pull you.

Thanks, sadly yes there is only one size, and it's quite big, smaller than I Germany through. Some enduro competition riders make smaller size plates somewhere but they get tickets for it usually.

Got some parts for the XT350 parts

[image: large.IMG_20240319_072158.jpg.334309ccc723d77b1321c045a03f5ebd.jpg]

So now got the parts to address this problem that former owner did make

[image: large.IMG_20240319_072210.jpg.ad21a883277124bfb84db1f1b69bd71e.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240319_072826.jpg.19edf04300a1e17e874d1261d2c0f561.jpg]

Also got a box from CMSNL whit parts for the XT350 as Bandit 600 as VFR ..

More parts arrivals today.

For the XT350 a missing part

[image: large.IMG_20240320_175025.jpg.96ad26e5c833bad19122e3a0b8a9016a.jpg]

And for the Bandit 600 a not perfect but for money good tank, yes wrong color as has a small dent but good enough to use one season, then repaint next winter

[image: large.IMG_20240320_174952.jpg.649c6449d8a6ce41044ef3e721278785.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240320_175155.jpg.95445e209abc176a94d8a8acc16e3807.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240320_174931.jpg.f9638129c70cf180c65930e32be63331.jpg]

I need to start working on the bikes now. Still picking up a few small parts tomorrow from a local store, then just to start working

So small progress on the XT350

[image: large.IMG_20240329_093020.jpg.e4ea22f844bd9d23a6e777180f1b943e.jpg]

The old swingarm if taken of whit shock as linkage

[image: large.IMG_20240329_093026.jpg.9be6e6f2bb739c23b0658ae043b03de8.jpg]

The good swingarm is painted

[image: large.IMG_20240329_112708.jpg.a30d29c38f5d76aff50661835192aced.jpg]

The spring on the rear shock I bought was slightly corroded as the adjust ring, so did change them from the one that was on bike, in picture the corroded spring as damper that has damage from the to big studded tire

[image: large.IMG_20240329_172200.jpg.11ac7525da8767f325e447864087ec14.jpg]

The front brake M/C needs more than just new scruvs for the cap, a rebuild kit is ordered....

[image: large.IMG_20240329_112701.jpg.8d694456a3f3a389652b70002783f24b.jpg]

Next the decompression level oil leak, could be done when engine was tilted backwards in frame.

[image: large.IMG_20240329_112713.jpg.639a5875e3466cadb28db78b7d487aa4.jpg]

Other than that a simple jobb to do, a bit cleaning an back together whit new oil seal

[image: large.IMG_20240329_141502.jpg.1836f6e0874fcca3603cf5d5f337b049.jpg]

Did pull carbs apart and ultrasonic cleaned, needs new o rings so still a part that needs to be ordered.... List becoming longer than hopped.

[image: large.IMG_20240329_115948.jpg.9c48443d94c9351907bd5726b2aec760.jpg]

Now I sure wounder what this small box is for, looks like connected to the horn 🤔

Need to check the wiring diagram...

The CBR600 now officially a classic motorcycle (a system in my country) and that means low insurance cost, 33€ a year and I'm allowed to use it for 120 days a year.

#101

Working on the Bandit 600 today.

Carbs off and apart

[image: large.IMG_20240408_085226.jpg.026007ff1d46aced1d93f3ccce5fd741.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240408_093342.jpg.74459e99a87e5ce14661324dd4b5d661.jpg]

Looks like someone had glued the float chambers to the crabs as one failed and started to leak

[image: large.IMG_20240408_085234.jpg.2d67e3b8712aa496c9374b2ce6a27918.jpg]

So got new, as all O rings as well

[image: large.IMG_20240408_141741.jpg.936ff266bcf3e8d013c92e473e277e0f.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240408_141731.jpg.11c473302f01b2994be9e93b4490d3e6.jpg]

The fuel line could be updated to

[image: large.IMG_20240408_085245.jpg.8c287df262433d148c4d2e7a9170985d.jpg]

Sadly was not my day, of the rubbers for float chambers 2 where good but 2 slightly smaller, didn't work out

[image: large.IMG_20240408_150049.jpg.5d95785d69d481c2ed8521a7d8312412.jpg]

So tomorrow to get a new kit....

#102

The Bandit is finally together

[image: large.IMG_20240410_095354.jpg.04fef48ee5d19a6b5f5cc2eebd730238.jpg]

And alive

VID_20240410_095848.mp4

Just need side covers as seat on, then first ride, but will not happen today, have a doctor's appointment in a other city that takes rest of day

#103

Some updates on my bikes, the Bandit as XT

The Bandit has now fresh fork seals as oil, legs slides ~10mm up to compensate for the 120/70 front tire as 120/60 is original size

[image: large.IMG_20240411_081852.jpg.4336ec446cc602f5dde5a3f2d320645c.jpg]

Also did bleed both brakes whit fresh brake fluid as it was quite dark looking and did change engine oil as the crabs had flooded to be safe, as I had oil at home. Was windy as a bit colder today so first ride planned for tomorrow!

XT350, carburetors back together and back on bike

[image: large.IMG_20240411_172840.jpg.22dfd1f13ded24a5b865c0be0aff8d9b.jpg]

Also the tank paint damage repaired for now, maybe a full respray next winter?

#104

Today season opened

[image: large.IMG_20240412_133853.jpg.f0d87c6f15ab242641f7938c9a3b27bc.jpg]

The Bandit was a positive surprise, ok the aftermarket can a bit louder to my taste but that's easy to fix. Rides good, engine more flexible than I had believe, no sky rocket but still fun.

Well it's still ice on local lakes

[image: large.IMG_20240412_135312.jpg.2e464e5c2ee424c42e5168f5d03f5445.jpg]

And you had to take it easy as roads partly covered whit light gravel from winter that has not been taken from the road yet

[image: large.IMG_20240412_135325.jpg.8835211544804ae2600c0714f2ff87ce.jpg]

Also a add to garage today, 2 wheels as electric engine that assist as you pedal

[image: large.IMG_20240412_095103.jpg.281ae0a425a7b9d34ca8e6c9e61e3c98.jpg]

Indeed, the handlebar is a bit to narrow to my liking but otherwise indeed comfortable 👍

#107

Got the rebuild kit for brake master cylinder, old out, new in

[image: large.IMG_20240413_083836.jpg.a845d0c8f2384155ba191130f2e99531.jpg]

Then XT finally going together, Handel bar weighs on as orginal grips, the air scoops on as tank, front brake bleeded, painted exhaust on

[image: large.IMG_20240414_092847.jpg.4fbfd1693b687970948cb3303b216c1b.jpg]

Don't know if you notice but the front tire has been changed, as I bought new the shop only had size 80/90-21 in stock, orginal size is a not so common 3.00-21, the rim is only a 1.60 so to small for a 90/90-21 that needs a 1.85 wide rim.

But the 80/90-21 is quite a bit smaller than the orginal 3.00-21, even the 90/90 is slightly smaller in outer diameter. But then I found one selling orginal takeoffs from a Yamaha WR250R, 80/100-21 is its size, and its very close in size to the original 3.00-21! So as I got a new tire that just been on rim, well ridden home 20ish kms for 30€ I could not resist, it's a Bridgestone TW301, had before on my Tenere 600, know it's ok rubber.

[image: large.IMG_20240414_131213.jpg.e00ac1de27b6048dba1b32b6c3f31e22.jpg]

And this picture is after having it running for a while, needs some final touches as carburetor's off one more time as tube between primary as secondary carb is slightly leaking. But it rains today so I'm not that keen for a test ride, even looking forward for it!

#108

The XT350 has now the small fuel tube between primary and secondary carb changed

[image: large.IMG_20240421_065000.jpg.8902b912e93c4d41d7eecf7e0f8e5645.jpg]

So it's ready for a test ride, need to get a insurance for it that is surprising costly for this model sadly. Also the fact that winter has strike back where I live also delay a test ride

[image: large.IMG_20240421_064927.jpg.616aabdf4f9638a1bf0f23cf3f92b0e1.jpg]

I have ordered a new license plate for it also, the old one is cracked

[image: large.IMG_20240421_065012.jpg.21b33e51ea72b58d1010697bdb5d2104.jpg]

So next I thought I should give the FJ some love, but there came up a issue straight away

[image: large.IMG_20240421_064905.jpg.afa30267a30f4156db6449053cf0121a.jpg]

As you si in the picture the fork upper has a unique fasting, you need a 27mm alien key to open then, biggest I had was a 25mm...

As I have mixed feeling for the FJ, and don't know if I just should list it as I get it running, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a tool. So a friend will weld (as I don't have a weld device) this socket to a bolt whit 27mm head to make a tool.

[image: large.IMG_20240420_135650.jpg.618c26efbc717715bdaf9ab24a7f0b93.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240420_135656.jpg.e59ee964632048cec2d51a34f97bd726.jpg]

So have to wait...

#109

Nice! I still have some FJ ABS parts for sale. Seems like there are far fewer out there these days.

#110

Tool is ready

[image: large.IMG_20240422_165650.jpg.160b904a41669e3fbde43b6babe42d9d.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240422_171500.jpg.a9aa2877e258bc268fb4708733190cd0.jpg]

#111

FJ still, but not fork yet, but carb diagrams.

[image: large.IMG_20240428_091804.jpg.52c1895fc6cb907750d1ed72fb15905c.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240428_091810.jpg.a5aa86be0eb8956aa31e8a1d5bb9b549.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240428_095500.jpg.7987da61f0c55a80dc2e1a6cc1a78cc4.jpg]

The old where no good anymore, even the plastic dip paint treatment didn't help, only worked for a day. Costly parts, OEM list price ~150€ each!, aftermarket parts locally in shop ~100€ each, managed to score these from ebay for 320€ for 4, and they are OEM mikuni ones!

[image: large.IMG_20240428_095445.jpg.f9b77bd81bbf0e97d925246a6b1a4f35.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240428_100433.jpg.bc6e9f0165e9a77e41b4afc59eae343b.jpg]

Have to say was quite tricky to get the needle plate in place as there is a spring under it to hold needle down, other a straight forward jobb.

Next to get motivated to pull one more fork apart as lube the shock linkage

I have never heard of this hack before.  I'll have to say, I am absolutely not surprised it didn't work.

Believe it or not, there are many that have been lucky to repair there diagrams this way! A guy I know on the Canarian islands have ridden many years whit his repaird this way, he has a FJ1200..... It only repair smaller holes thro, mine where to bad

#114

Today's jobb

First sorted the noice in the linkage, shock lower bearing, or uniball, was reason

[image: large.IMG_20240429_093606.jpg.9b96880c01c7dbf284f230f622b42a08.jpg]

[image: large.IMG_20240429_193620.jpg.22a5e0bd375652510a3896f517454d86.jpg]

The FJ is alive, started good, didn't run that good at lower rpm at first but did start run better, did a Sync that might have helped.

Insurance is on from tomorrow so will do a spin on it, hopefully starts tu run better. It's been sitting almost 2 years, carbs been dry thro. However definitely have to many motorcycle's, so it's also listed. I had a few plans for it, but will not ba made, limited time as funds and just want to put all efforts on my RC24 VFR750

[image: large.IMG_20240501_110904.jpg.08d94c1699f51d45f1d70502e1516518.jpg]

Ashame in one way but you can't have it all, and enjoying the Bandit 600 very much, only like to find a OEM muffler/silencer for reasonable money, the current aftermarket one is to loud for my licking, I guess I'm getting old 😅

#116

Well, eventually the FJ is not running as should, and even seems to ride a bit better at times decided I needed to pull carbs off to check, as aside the diagram issue it did run great 2 years back

So decided to try the XT350

[image: large.IMG_20240503_075128.jpg.1a22769380b29f46a3ddaf0f4274e2de.jpg]

Did take it to work this Friday, Fortnite a short ride. Well a issue came up. First the front brake is not as good as should, second as I did go on lunch noticed something has leaked under it, turn's out the oil filter cap is leaking for some reason. Have to check out why. It hade been sealed whit some silicone aside the O ring before, have to look into reason.

[image: large.IMG_20240503_161837.jpg.0fb7ab84127aa94a993b7ab8ba3ecb1e.jpg]

Hopefully nothing major.

Might try fresh brake pads for the front brake.

A one more thing, a secondhand OEM silencer in on the way for the Bandit 600

#117

Found oil leak reason of XT, a O ring missing at lower bolt.

But. After riding the XT some, must say it's a disappointed sadly. Not dirt bike enough, power could be more, and not a bike I would do big milage on, even looks are good so...

[image: large.IMG_20240505_170749.jpg.0fac01aeba595ac133de47bcacc29d43.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240505_170842.jpg.bdc0fa9746ef6acdecd9a3d2f69c9a9e.jpg]

The money Shots are taken....

The CBR600 is alive, needed charging battery thro and might need a fuel tap rebuild next winter, as did leak first turn after winter but one day later didn't leak.

I did put a small engine fuel in it before standing that should not glog carbs but it sure dry out rubber parts.

Also test fired the 88-89 RC24 clipons I have, could sure give a better (for me) riding position

[image: large.IMG_20240505_101252.jpg.4bbfd2d147efe5972ee6ffa8cabe4145.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240505_101304.jpg.e1c9ef90e3db361383ec03b7e5d742a0.jpg]

Only issue is it needs a longer brake line

#118

Bandit update, or some would say taking update off?

[image: large.IMG_20240509_082858.jpg.ce254aaaca297a570d5934c841b7a663.jpg]

Did a test ride whit XT today

Not so nice. Should top 135km/h bt actually doesn't do much more than 100km/h, ok on small twisty tarmac roads but awful on gravel bits. You have to keep taco between 6-8k to have some movement.

This was a bike I dorled after as a teenager, but a total disappointment for real, how can some folks love this bike? Not my cup of tea or this example does have some issues, strange through it starts ok, runs okay and has good compresson... Bike is listed

Enjoying the 92 F2 CBR, I must say, even it's a bike made for the masses, it's a joy to ride! Good looking and powerful enough for me. Some might say a in line four is boring, maybe but still has it's charm, just my 2cent through

I found a photo of my old F3 this morning, I put a 15 T gearbox sprocket on it, got a speeding ticket the second day I got it

Cover back on in picture to avoid dust, but a friend that works in a official Yamaha show will com and change shims a evening so all get to spec, non to tight bu most in minimum specs.

And then there was some motorcycle action on the concert I was to yesterday evening

FJ valve adjustment is easy! Do you have the proper tool? I set exhaust on the open end of spec and intake on the tighter end of spec so they have plenty of room to do their thing!

Hello to a Kawasaki ZR7S

[image: large.IMG_20240607_122018.jpg.ed303d62b80928139cbdc8ed5650e22e.jpg]

More low rpm torque, better ergonomic for me, lighter clutch action, faster steering response.

I did go a see a ZR7S as I bought the Bandit 600, but it was in a sad state. This is nice.

I had perefere the blue color, but this red is ok, better than silver that is dull.

Well end of a era, again perhaps, bye to the bandit 600

Hello to a Kawasaki ZR7S

Congratulations on the Kawasaki!

A red ZR-7S was my first grown-up motorcycle.  It was really too big a bike to start on, but I did okay.  I sold it after about five months and bought a VFR.  I wonder sometimes what my riding life would have been like had I kept that Kawasaki.

#132

Red ones are faster anyway!!

I would actually have perefered a blue one but red is better than silver, and color can be changed if you really like

#134

Oh hey I remember my Bandit 600S 😄

#135

As usual a old motorcycle you buy is not perfect, it has it's marks from it's life before and even this has genuine 50k kms on the Odo I think the brake fluid was OEM to![image: large.IMG_20240608_111459.jpg.7045804beb75f8bb89072890afbdbc7f.jpg]

Didn't take pictures of it but bottom of front M/C was covered whit mustard like stuff, seen this one's before on a car that had been parked for 20 years.... Well fresh fluid in now. Remarkable is all move as should and brake performed great!

Well next was the tires that know was shoot.

Front was a 15 years old  Continental ContiForce, a budget tire back then, flat wear in middle as uneven wear and rubber hard, was actually scary to ride the motorcycle home yesterday in weather that was heavy rain showers at times

[image: large.IMG_20240608_115446.jpg.472eb1a3d0bb39ad0fa0df38215a1fe2.jpg]

It was replaced whit a new Avon Roadrider I had around, it was actually bought for the FJ but a 110/70 fots better on its 3" wide rim. Ok it's not a radial tire but will do. If I don't like it I order something other online, Just don't like to wait a few weeks to get fresh tires as I just started vacation.

[image: large.IMG_20240608_115500.jpg.f6eaf1b56275abc3cc6c1a7662943da4.jpg]

The rear tire on it was a 15 years old Pirelli Diablo Stada that had been distroided by running it whit to little air pressure, it's rubber was surprising soft still!

[image: large.IMG_20240608_115453.jpg.fdb4dcb2a34107ed244ea04bb6c91885.jpg]

I think all understand why I did only ride bigger straight roads on way home 😁

Well some may call me crazy now, but did actually replace it whit a even older tire!

The Dunlop 220 that the CBR600F2 came whit. It's basically as new tread wise, feels ok soft the rubber also. Will just run it this season, even shorter if it doesn't feel ok.

[image: large.IMG_20240608_115509.jpg.39235f918be2e8668c98c2449e5faa2e.jpg]

It also fits nice on the 5" wide rear rim the ZR7S has, it looked cramped on the 4,5" CBR rim. If I recall correctly Dunlop had 2 castings for the 160/60 back then depending on if the motorcycle had a 4,5" or 5" wide rear rim.

Well I usually charge my tires # home, to get the bead off happens like this

[image: large.IMG_20240608_091636.jpg.7c91894da15a8db3fcd65168422287fe.jpg]

Then tire irons as a static balancer jack to balance them

#136

Must say I really like this ZR7S Kawasaki!

[image: large.IMG_20240608_174029.jpg.d6e95f9d6b2b053fe5d2e22a1bfe39af.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240608_173817.jpg.adee0d07d90d916b41cd945584a8c665.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240608_173756.jpg.0b2131ca05e7119bb2656bdf7b8d689a.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240608_174130.jpg.cdfa2fed527c6fcbe5011c70bd21f1ac.jpg]

First it has really comfortable ergonomic, even more than the Bandit!

Second it has a sporty front geometry so steering is fast, I like that!

Suspension is not sport bike hash but still not to soft, actually on firm side of comfortable suspension. Brakes are good.

Engine is sure old school, it doesn't rev as high as the Bandit, but it has lots of power in low rpm, torque, so nicer to ride around in lower rpm, ride lacy, but still power enough to be fun as you rev it out. Ok, power animal here, but enough to have fun in the twisty roads I mostly ride.

Happy so far really 😎

Wish Honda would make a 1300 with a simular fairing like that Kawi..... All the good bikes seem to be sold in Europe..

Had a ride today on twisty bits, really like the ZR7S! I can't believe so many bad reviews I have been reading of it, mostly it's performance.

For my ride style it's perfect. I like torque in low rpm, as I only rev the engine out now as then on straights as going out on a faster road from a small one. Ok it's no power house at high rpm, but fast enough for me. Actually it feels like a V4 more than a I4 it is.

Handling is sweet in the twisty bits, and ride position is sweet also. 😎

It's been a long time since I owned my ZR-7S, but I seem to remember it did have a decent amount of torque down low.  When I first test rode a 6th gen. VFR, I was surprised how it bogged down when I tried to accelerate from a higher gear at low rpms.  I was still a relative newbie at the time, with little experience on different bikes and different engine types.  Interestingly, I'm on my 3rd bike now, and on my 3rd different engine type - in this case a boxer twin.

I've seen the ZR referred to as a 'parts bin special, but to me the ZR was a nice UJM throwback.  You could get it with a fairing (ZR-7S) or without (ZR-7).  When I bought that first bike, I had been seriously considering a new Yamaha FZ6, but didn't want to sink so much money into a new bike, not knowing if I'd even like riding.  Ultimately, for me that Kawasaki turned out to be a terrific introduction to motorcycling!

Great, seem it's the ultimate ride for a old frat to 😂even I'm not that old but have owned a bunch of different motorcycles 😁

Seems my thing whit motorcycle's is to enjoy twisty roads whit a motorcycle that ride them in comfort whit a flexible engine

[image: large.IMG_20240612_175539.jpg.cbe044ed3735ab18814b8a7ddadd9bb6.jpg]

It's for front as rear, don't know if I will use the red anodized aluminum banjo bolt's that can along thro.

Not really a big fan of these color anodized banjos as bolt's but for the price of 30€ I think I accept them 😅

Was out on a spin on the ZR7S also

So decided to get a fresh set of tires for the ZR7S.

Did chose a local place as price difference was not big. Choice was down to Michelin PP2ct or Road5, Decided to get a newer offering even a higher price, after all even PP2ct is a really good tire it was introduced back in 2006 (the 2CT version) so

[image: large.IMG_20240613_183650.jpg.d6bebdde55ecf22259f24dca8e552e83.jpg]

Fearly fresh to as made in end of 2023.

Then mounted on rim ready to inflate as balanced

It's nice whit a center stand as whit that and a front stand you  can have both wheels off same time

Even my wrists don't really enjoyed riding it I still enjoy it.

Does anyone know a motorcycle model that had a M/C whit remote reservoar for the brake fluid that is ½ or 13mm in piston size? Looking for one to make the RC24/2 clipons possible to fit.

#148

Can't think of any road bikes with OEM separate reservoir and master but plenty of aftermarket options( brembo. HEL, Venhill for example - bit pricey mind). Don't know whether the setup you're after is a thing in the off-road OEM area?

#149

Check out some yams or sukis they often have separate m/c & res.

#150

Yep, Mohawk is right. Sorry Keny I am a twit; my old GSXR750K3 had a separate m/c and reservoir. I don't know what diameter piston it was though

#151

Well I have this

[image: large.IMG_20240623_091457.jpg.7628039ef3bb2b92f923d265d332a8af.jpg]

It's from a Suzuki, a 1988-89 RGV250 to be exact. It's ⅝ so rough 16 mm. The CBR600 is ½ or 13 mm like most Honda from the era (even not CBR900RR, it's also ⅝) and I fear I loose level feel whit it.

My FJ1200 has OEM a ⅝ / 16 mm but as it didn't work I tried the 1990 CBR1000F one I had around that is stamped 14, so 14mm (even most list a ½ rebuild kit for it 🤷) and the feel of brake force was much greater whit that compared to the rebuilt OEM I now have on the FJ.

Even consider trying that 14mm m/c on the ZR7S that also has a ⅝ M/C.

Talking of the ZR7S

Had a spin on it today

[image: large.IMG_20240623_100928.jpg.24d35cc64c5ee5e2e1b839eed8aac067.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240623_094753.jpg.9dbb37fba81f3fa27460b8a66521c7bd.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240623_095034.jpg.739f2a5bc844f7512958ef67207d58cc.jpg]

Great bike!

#152

Best feel is 32-36:1 ratio between M/C piston area & calliper piston area IMO. I use CBR929/954 or CBR600F4 callipers with CBR600F4 M/C, its the best Axial brake setup.

#153

And on CBR

#154

My buddy hit one the other day while towing an RV to track day. Super suckage. i'm glad that I missed mine a few weeks back. They're out 24/7 these days here in NC.

#155

Well the ZR7S cam chain started to make noise at times, so did put in a manual cam tensioner as the OEM is known to fail

[image: large.IMG_20240626_171731.jpg.a064da6b35eb567c5e16d27f9d35670f.jpg]

It needed trimming in other end to fit but otherwise a good part. Cam chain worries are gone.

Decided to test the CBR1000F brake M/C I have (14mm), now mounted but test ride still to do, hope to get better feel in level compared to orginal that is ⅝ (~16mm).

[image: large.IMG_20240629_183816.jpg.1240c151bdaa182e790a0341a0021328.jpg]

#156

So the smaller M/C sure did do wonders to the front brake, more feel in level as slightly less pull needed for higher brake force.

But now the OEM one is back, as I robbed it to the RC24...

There is a reason. The ZR7S will stand for some time.

Reason, the cam chain. The manual adjuster did help holding the chain tight, but seems for some reason the chain is stretching in alarming rate as the odd ticking as started cold came back. It's like the chain try to jump off the tooth's and snap back on track. As valve cover off you can see the chain is all way on as it enters the cam chain sprocket (inlet side) but on top you can see a gap on bottom. The bike still rides ok, but sure I don't like to risk that some day it jumps a thoot and give more engine damage. Also the cam sprockets seems not having wear so a new cam chain is the way to go. As valve cover off checked the valve clearance and needs adjustment to, most in tight end of spec a few tighter...

I have a friend that will help me whit this but he will not have time until during winter....

My friend was a bit confused however, for reason why the cam chain is so stretched, it should be a model that holds for a long time. The carbs model became noisy whit high mileage so the odometer miles he believes are correct. The bike has been sitting much, maybe in dumped condition so cam chain has corroded?

A few pictures from the last rides

#159

One of my former motorcycle's, that I sold as part's in boxes, came back to my garage

[image: large.IMG_20240730_172959.jpg.2a8e6cb9d6be4b7df3570aee09e00cf7.jpg]

The 1989 Yamaha XT600Z Tenere, it's only in for a visit through, offered to help out whit electric issues.

#160

The second (1VJ )model  1986-1987 ruined the reputation of the 34L/55W engine.

Placing the oil cooler in front of the engine proved a bad idea... Adding air cut out in the lower part of the front mudguard would be a start..

So this being a 1989 is good

PS: I recall you pointind me to a spare engine in the Netherlands for export to Finland....

Ha, yes, for the other 3AJ I had you did score a cylinder head from Dutch ground.

And yes the 1VJ did make a good Tenere bad, had heat problem whit oil cooler on front of engine as tank on the cylinder sides (to get lower center of gravity), the 3A,J curred some problems in 1988 whit a lower front fender to get more air flow to cylinder, the 89-90 even more whit bigger oil cooler, then came liquid cooling

Well, if you have followed me over the years, you know I had a 1985 Honda CBX750 F back in time, bought in 2016, sold in 2017.

[image: large.WP_20160908_19_37_11_Pro.jpg.e892e648a5c33a9923dec47b37404625.jpg]The bike in upper picture. I sold it for many reasons having to many projects, not space enough as no energy to continue.

Well have regret it at times.

But the other day same bike did appear on local sale site

[image: large.Screenshot_20240730-205303.jpg.7f59d0194d02fb09124b588dd95dd16a.jpg][image: large.Screenshot_20240730-205325.jpg.87e0be200b0b3ed68f439c68aa444432.jpg]

The add pictures above.

Seller was same guy that bought it from me 7 years ago. He had started to do a cafe racer project of it, but don't have time, to many other projects as newborn baby as a other kid in house.

So I'm a crazy man, I did buy it back!

Sold it for 900€ 7 years ago, bought back for 300€ 🙈

[image: large.IMG_20240731_173319.jpg.ea0241c1e196d6c44a00364b51a23b89.jpg]

So now in my garage, rear of frame cut but the part cut off exist, many panels cut also, but all should be there.

But I have a VFR to finish first....

The CBX is one of thos bikes that I also keep an eye out for on our local auction site. Like you, I owned one back in the day and had a happy 30,000km on it, and I have fond memories. The idea of restoring an air-cooled in-line 4 is also seems easier than getting into the complexity of water-cooling, but the CBX does have it's own peculiarities with the alternator drive. Congratulations on your buy-back, just a shame that the frame has been butchered like that. I am looking forward to seeing you nurse this one back to health Keny.

Thanks, I think it will take a while before things starts to happen, but you never know, it's a motorcycle I think is really good looking, especially in red whit black stripes.

Hopefully it turns out to a motorcycle I can enjoy to commute to work.

Funny thing is I actually just test ride the as I did take it as part trade, never actually rode it on twisty motorcycle roads.

#165

Well before pushing it to back end of garage decided to see if it runs, nope, didn't start even all plugs are connected and gets fresh fuel. Didn't let fuel under it that is a good sign, reason not starting is no spark, so need to check why, CDI box is suspected reason as rattles inside it ..

Did a peak inside fuel tank, not good looking

[image: large.IMG_20240801_182108.jpg.36a60f24f4a31d5d583a58f0c005d630.jpg]

Led light make it blueish, but just rust inside....

#166

A peak inside my man Cave

2in project stage, 2 running. Well FJ only wait for a friend, a Yamaha shop owner, to have time to come one evening over and adjust the valves whit it's special tool as chims.

[image: large.IMG_20240817_101835.jpg.11c838710f41d186a710ef8fc8ce6f9d.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240817_101844.jpg.0e7d4b9593c0d1a61f3ec819da0c1f21.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240817_213144.jpg.822aea9a4d56c73e652599fdda809412.jpg]

Main garage, then the room next to where the ZR7S wait for cam chain change

[image: large.IMG_20240817_101903.jpg.ed7ce18229a43f1dfd1647f725e879e7.jpg]

And the CBX750 is pushed to the back of it awaiting restauration whit the 2 dirt bikes, a 92 Kawasaki KDX200 that is mine and a 1996 KTM 400 LC4 that is a friend's

[image: large.IMG_20240817_101917.jpg.9f06790184ad0aee57778bf9e0c0fd7a.jpg]

The KDX actually just needs a gearbox bearing change, but as I'm not in condition to ride a dirt bike it been staying un touch, guess I should do it and just sell it.....

A friend visited today whit one of his rides, a Yamaha RD350 YPVS, also known as RZ350 in some parts of the world

A spin on the 92 CBR600 always give you a smile on the face, as does this lovely cafe on a lovely twisty road

[image: large.IMG_20240825_124145.jpg.39d68c03668b00b797794f339367aa87.jpg]

It was a warm day here today, and CBR running better than chilly mornings last week. Maybe crabs needs a overhaul next winter, or perhaps the reason engine temp gauge is not working is not the sensor but the thermostat stuck open?

#171

A great day today also for a ride whit the CBR600 on twisty road's

[image: large.IMG_20240826_150758.jpg.f3bd9369354ed0c55f62c057fc4dacfa.jpg]

I must do a video to show you this lovely road. I need to dig my GOPRo to get some footage....

This one followed me home today

[image: large.IMG_20240907_085812.jpg.73a0532411d5e279d3925d4565f26341.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240907_093023.jpg.29efd889e7b9df9a41186b8284c7c6aa.jpg]

1995 Kawasaki Zephyr 550 that someone has modded to a cafe racer.

Seems to have Zephyr 750 wheels as fork.

So front 41mm forks as a 3x17" rim instead of 39mm and 2,5x17, rear is a 4x17" rim compared to orginal 3,5x18". Shocks are 10mm longer than orginal. Orginal airfilterbox 👍 but crazy loud silencer and looks like made for a smaller cc engine to. Koso instrument cluster, aftermarket lights, license plate as rear light next to rear wheel on left side like a Harley 🙈, ignition switch under seat even orginal, battery behind seat. Clip on handel bars that restrict turning quit a bit! Needs some tweaks, but running, new clutch, valves adjustment as carb rebuild. Way wrong size tire front, a 130/70 rear specific Metzler Lasertec, the rear 160/70 will be mounted on my RC24 whit the CBR600F2 rear rim I have.

[image: large.IMG_20240907_094750.jpg.f5dc3ce89d1e4a13598d517d3a0f1782.jpg]

Think this will turn into a Scrambler 🤔

This is motorcycle #49 I bought if I also count my dirt bikes

So I have found out why the Zephyr 550 "cafe" clutch, that is just rebuilt, did go toast, and should so had  soon again if not this had been done, a good clutch level

[image: large.IMG_20240913_180432.jpg.bf7e72dae18b05eb4f1d3649a2d31528.jpg]

It's actually amazing that someone would be using a bent level that makes the pull so short that it has to be adjusted so tight it's crazy! Well I guess it's how you cut costs as you rebuild a wracked bike into something to sell...this bike has been written off after a accident in 2012, but I know the frame has been measured and in spec, a reason I could think of buying this bike.

[image: large.IMG_20240913_180548.jpg.ee830c62028276315fe3d0ffdc7ee41f.jpg][image: large.IMG_20240913_180614__01.jpg.c7ee2d59f4077c7bbfe0f31a529778e6.jpg]

More visual, bent level in upper picture, orginal shape in lower

Then a other crazy thing, why put a long treaded bolt in a level as it needs one whit a flat area where the level movers!

[image: large.IMG_20240913_180444.jpg.df5e5a0a57fd7d910bca22e43a88db4e.jpg]

Both the level on bike as the second hand I bought had so, now whit a more correct bolt. Next I need a new clutch wire, current to sticky for my taste.

[image: large.IMG_20240912_163727.jpg.7fd5056beafdedf45b1adb551524dcf4.jpg]

I hope to mount this silencer as I don't like the one now on the cafe.

It's actually a OEM Kawasaki one in the picture that I like to mount, it's from a 2020 Z900RS

Well sadly, decided the CBX750 would be a to big project, at least not economic wise, and as I have other bikes whit higher priority I decided to pass the CBX750 on,

Well the turn signals did stay for my 1986 VFR750F's, as did the cable loom for the twin headlights but still sold today whit a small profit 😎

Should be nice and easy to adjust the valves on this one!

I had to look up this, as even this engine is based on the CBX750 engine that had hydraulic tappers I thought this had not, as many things where changed (from 6 speed to 5, Hydraulic clutch to wire operated..), but it still does have hydraulic tappers! Yes a big bonus indeed

I bought a 2001 vfr800 this past summer. Came with matching Michelin Roads with 600 miles (1000km). No cracks, tread looked new.

Date codes said 2006.

Off they came. I'll save money elsewhere.🙂

The rear on my Aermacchi looks aboslutely fine and the PO is convinced this YOKOHAMA is still fine. It actually looks ok w/o cracks

3 digit DOT code, last one a 1............

So make that a 1991  :wheel: ..........

I may be silly, but am not stupid.....

I nodded sympathelically to his assurance, but come spring, we'll put on new hoops.

Well I like to add that during the 90s the DOT code ended whit 3 digit as a arrow end/triangle after the 3 digits,

the 80's hade a big dot usually, older don't know, but can be the tire is from 1981.....or even 1971 if it's mostly a garage queen, tires that old where mostly made from real rubber that actually age well if stored well, but yes, fresh on the rim and the old on the wall, actually if you attach a round carbord on it in center you can fill it whit pictures, made a 40 year gift to a friend like that of a old nos tire 😄

keny,

Could you please try to measure the swingarm width on the CB 750 F2.  Inside to inside where the wheel mounts.  Or maybe even just chain adjuster bolt to chain adj bolt.

Thanks in advance,

Sure I can take a measurement for you.

You know the CB750F2 uses a 17 mm rear axle? Not 20mm like the CBR600F2 as RC24.

Did a measure, wheel still on but whit help of extenders and the distance between the swingarm inner to inner where wheel mounts ist ~256mm

Any other messurments you like?

By the way could you tell the offset of the RC24/2 triples for 41mm forks?

Popped out the wheel for exact messurment, it needs a good cleaning anyway.

258mm inside to inside,

And looks like disc to sprocket measurement is same on the CB750F2 as RC24!

#184

Did take the case holder (Hepco & Beckers) off, I don't planning a trip whit it and it looks much better whit out.

I'm amazed what the holder as case's cost!

Had a though that I would sell the holder whit case's but as this costly might hold to them as add value in case I sell it....

Thank you!  It's just a 4.0 rim but might be a good candidate for a smaller displacement wheel swap that only has room for a 150/60 tire, like a 500 Interceptor.

150/60 or 140/70 as you get serious sport rubber in that size to and a bit bigger than the 150/60, more equal to a 160/60

#187

Fresher tire mounted, the Avon Roadrider that I had around, DOT early 2019, far more fresh than 2003!

[image: large.IMG_20250105_102503.jpg.2c2c238b5e53c2d396d843d43776aeae.jpg]

And about same age as rear as it's late 2018

#188

Well as things is, I have come to a so called cash point.

Need to focus on what to put money into, and the fact I got myself a hobby car as well, well more a nostalgic dayly drive actually, that also needed some love as money as still will, and bringing a old car back to life for younger son same time doesn't help. I today put the 2001 CBR600 back together so I don't forget where bit's belongs, aside side fairings and parts missing. It needs quit a bit money put into to be a runner (2 new keys ~80€, fuel pump ~80-150€ depending on make, fuel pressure regulator ~20-150€ depends on china or OEM, sparkplugs ~80-120€, missing bits ~200-300€, new tires ~250-350€ plus new fluids as air/oil filter....) ,  more that I have just now as extra money.

[image: large.IMG_20250119_081419.jpg.0692e1eb18cbc31678ff0b6e6efaa791.jpg]

And then moved it in the back room to get more work space in the garage. Actually I listed it if someone hooks on, but price is firm, and if it doesn't sell It just will wait.

You probably spot the 92 CBR600 there as well as the Zephyr 550 cafe as a dirtbike, that is actually a friend's, in there to.

[image: large.IMG_20250119_102138.jpg.a0b6aeea84b3dda9ab09d7713da1d30d.jpg]

Moved the SevenFifty more central

[image: large.IMG_20250119_085929.jpg.4a33e1618b05f860c7b84e28e538eb97.jpg][image: large.IMG_20250119_085947.jpg.c920d79c1567e0e3fbbeb4f9729f25a2.jpg]

And think I have to look through the front brakes as feeling the front is dragging a bit even should be gone thro not that long ago.

Maybe the brake lines not letting pressure 100% back? I noticed I have brained lines for it, the lower 2. It's a motorcycle I sure like to ride next season.

[image: large.IMG_20250119_082848.jpg.035af4cec516e154a2172771665c2fda.jpg]

The hard cases as rack I tock off, as it's not a stylish whit them I think, will probably end up for sale after all I think 🤔

#189

The SevenFifty front brakes felt like dragging a bit, so only one thing to do, take them off

Other piston in both callipers didn't move freely, upper in other and lower in other caliper. The other did move out whit just air pressure but other needed to be pushed out whit hydraulics. Not so good looking, sure need for a overhaul!

One of the bikes I had up for sale did sell yesterday, no project CBR600F4i anymore, it has left the building.......

Today I visited the yearly local motorcycle show, if you can say it's local as it's a hours train trip away, but I call it's local.

Lots to see, both new as old bikes (orginal as modified) for display as for sale, also motorcycle gear for sale as e-bikes....

For me the most stunning new motorcycle of the show was the Yamaha XSR900GP

[image: large.IMG_20250131_100220.jpg.6ddf201755c4f70bccae55af91577a74.jpg][image: large.IMG_20250131_100230.jpg.6d5e797725459fa0af636cd719f30fa2.jpg]

[image: large.IMG_20250131_100727.jpg.711a59691b7cf2f13c7d6b9d9b1314c7.jpg]

But from Honda's motorcycle I found the NX500 interesting, whit the special edition in HRC colors

[image: large.IMG_20250131_101034.jpg.733fb3104e600b44abe1f3f6cdd4891e.jpg][image: large.IMG_20250131_120004.jpg.ba2f9905df443fa0de86b29b7fb9f373.jpg]

I think I need to test ride one..... maybe

Also the CL500 Scrambler was kinda cool

[image: large.IMG_20250131_135410.jpg.ce8a5e294a1ee800433bd7985cc42b0c.jpg]

I thought this site was about motorcycle's 😉😇

#194

You don't see that bike in the background...sounds like a vision/focus issue. 🙂

I took a GSX-8R for a short test ride recently and really liked it. Great riding position, super easy to ride and throw around, punchy engine, demon brakes and reasonable comfort as well. I'm starting to find my VFRs a bit "wristy" as I get older, even with bar risers, and the GSX would address that and with decent legroom as well.

You know now why I have a ZR7S as a CB SevenFifty in my garage 😅, I still love the RC24 engine, so enjoyable one!

#197

I finally found a twin headlight for the Zephyr 550 Cafe/Scrambler, for a reasonable money, 25€, second hand, you used to get these for 35-40€ new but now days they are close to 100€!

[image: large.IMG_20250203_182729.jpg.5c67e41c9b4c7a9f5fb768f928cdfd71.jpg]

Also now has a orginal handlebar fasteners for it.... Just need to get that spaghetti (electric) sorted....

CB SevenFifty front brake calipers back together whit Tourmax repair kit after a good cleaning

[image: large.IMG_20250209_101013.jpg.15c1f3ccdb094856a47f842440841f7a.jpg]

Now waiting for the new brake pads to arrive

#199

The brake pads arrived

[image: large.IMG_20250211_072250.jpg.96d81bc1b2e0b83733d0a6f4deaccd5c.jpg]

Heard so much good about these break pads that just want to test them myself

[image: large.IMG_20250211_073449.jpg.acae6bf17ccccf219f7e1d06278f37c1.jpg]

Now break callipers ready to be mounted on the SevenFifty

#200

Well the front brakes are mounted as brained brake lines and ready to go even no pics to prove, but will come.

Next its time to prepare for the ZR7S cam chain change, as my friend, a Kawasaki guru you could say, finally has time to help out. He knows these old air cooled Kawasaki's like own pockets.

[image: large.IMG_20250223_093040.jpg.3382e92f588b54fc2e6d28c7d977cf2d.jpg][image: large.IMG_20250223_101630.jpg.bfead47862eb28a95da3059ce6d3b993.jpg]

Well the company I bought it from, a one man "hobby" shop, told me he cleaned the carbs, but how whit them this dirty on outside!

[image: large.IMG_20250224_165501.jpg.6d5cce0722dd038c2c7c5e9be62afa09.jpg]

And engine sure dirty on top of gearbox

[image: large.IMG_20250224_165516.jpg.ee79bacb4a00038e01418031a24bb03d.jpg]

So far going ok through time to get hands more dirty

[image: large.IMG_20250225_171009.jpg.3e4f596903e7613fedadba816305c474.jpg][image: large.IMG_20250225_165754.jpg.5c589139f2cd34664a9842765f2e0b70.jpg][image: large.IMG_20250225_165804.jpg.c2077db632378f97d69fd883ad2c65a7.jpg]

Valve cover as camshafts off

Then the head was decided to been taken off as we thought changing the valve seals as well as the bike is quiet old as not that big thing to do, only a head gasket needed more as valve seals.

[image: large.IMG_20250225_173028.jpg.8bf6f91bf341aaf39f7d4b3c41acdbc1.jpg][image: large.IMG_20250225_173021.jpg.4d675880942a870338dd145f4cf380dc.jpg]

But then a not wanted surprise came. The pistons as cylinder walls above piston rings has huge carbon buildup

[image: large.IMG_20250225_173811.jpg.a202941cd17de1d0d89bed1001b55d48.jpg]

And looking into the cylinders the walls has no hone marks left and the pistons that are in bottom dead center can be moved sideways a bit

[image: large.IMG_20250225_174017.jpg.72f881530deb985db8a3a68e4001abfe.jpg]

Not good, cylinders off

[image: large.IMG_20250225_175154.jpg.977d74468e44362da2b9ee226b2a2bf0.jpg]

Well the pistons looks surprising good.

Next everything has to be messured to check how bad this really is...

It's a big bummer.

The seller one man company really believed this was a low mileage bike, sure it looks really good and not a high mileage one. But the fact that the cam chain is stretched, as the cylinder walls tells other, even the odo has 50k kms, it's probably 150k or 250k.? or just ridden whit bad oli? WHO knows Also the pistons good shape makes think the engine has been opened before to put in new pistons?

I actually contracted the seller and he was surprised, but he is a honest man in one way, he promised to take part in the repair costs.

Now first everything needs to checked as messured for sure, then decide how to go on. I checked a bit and good cylinders whit pistons as a good head whit camshafts are awable for not to much money (from a bike only done 20k kms!), but a complete engine from a bike whit full service history whit 58k kms is not much more if all a on this engine is as bad as it looks, only cylinders as head would be better whit them changed.... Well one option is just to change the cam chain and pass this bike on as it's a runner, but its a bike I really really like so not option #1

#201

Well looks after all that theory #1, corrosion, is the reason for the worn cam chain as cylinder walls

[image: large.IMG_20250301_152339.jpg.dd11aef6a54a649059caa82e6b282ba5.jpg]

VID_20250301_152301.mp4  as seen in the video there is a lot of piston play, thing is the pistons are in speck but rings has wear, the cylinder walls has big wear, it's oval to, the head is actually ok, cam bearing surface are ok, no big wear or sign of bad oil there, also no sign of valve seals leaking thro oil (the carbon buildup is from oil coming through piston rings), however there is sign's of corrosion under the valve cups at valve chims.

This give the conclusion the bike has been stored in a environment that has made condensation inside engine that has made cylinder walls rust as cam chain. The thing that supports this is that there is sign's brown red fluid has come from the engine breather type into air filter box.

So the engine CSI is ready, a healthy cylinder group whit pistons has been ordered.

Had a few bits I bought this weekend

Fist a ZR7S meter combination

[image: large.IMG_20250308_073731.jpg.0bb88071a4af1c0f4291d0944557ba12.jpg]

Paid 20€ for this one including the speedo wire, not bad, will be for the 550 zephyr

Then paid 50€ for a good set of ZR7S top fairings

[image: large.IMG_20250308_073738.jpg.d6144795ade2abfbdc05b452810ddbdb.jpg]

Has a few small chips in paint but no cracks, my other has a crack.

Sure my bike is Red, I like the blue version better actually and think I'm going to just put them on and see how it looks

And the secondhand cylinders for the ZR7S should arrive today...

#203

I guess the ZR7S needs new sprockets as chain to......

[image: large.IMG_20250324_055719.jpg.ca810fc4f97a7f25b14899c7ad5e7391.jpg]

Indeed worn out

#204

Now this starts to look like a nut and bolt restauration......

[image: large.IMG_20250325_080447.jpg.38c77107d0b28e3e643cb17ab61d0693.jpg]

But actually just a cam chain change, whit out using a link, and to check engine condition further same time.....

#205

Season 2025 opened today, not that warm but sunny and roads not that bad

The trusty F2 CBR did fine

#206

I had plans to do the first ride of season on the SevenFifty but even I knew it didn't run perfect efter sitting some time (even it had done it after a full service my friend did to it) I was hoping magic fluid in the fuel would sort it like on the CBRF2 the other year, but not with the SevenFifty, did only did run whit choke on after sitting a few months more. So....

[image: large.IMG_20250330_104637.jpg.3723040e5d9cb19b4a771cabef289977.jpg][image: large.IMG_20250330_104644.jpg.57c76d8173f72c5fc8993d2edce93d65.jpg]

And indeed idle jets clogged... The rest looks fine through. So some ultrasonic clean is needed

#207

Well been busy, then weather got cold so no test ride could be done, even the SevenFifty was back together.

But today finally did a test ride, sadly not midday as temps where summer like and sun shining, but not to bad temp wise but roads were wet after some rain late afternoon

[image: large.IMG_20250419_190143.jpg.cc73be9dedb3373465aacaef06541eed.jpg][image: large.IMG_20250419_193142.jpg.db9727550c9d79253080beb18af1d200.jpg]

So how did it run and how did I like it?

Well didn't run perfect but better as I rode it, but I think it will need new sparkplugs to run good. As a bike there is thing's I like as not.

Engine pulls great, just struggling at lower rpm, that can be a issue aside plugs ( sounds it's not running on all 4 below 3k) from the fact that a former owner has liked a loud bike and taken out the internals from the original silencers, so they are open as Loud! Not a things I like as prefer.

The brakes are good, so my rebuild is a success. It's a relatively fast steering motorcycle, a thing I like, but fork is a but soft feeling and don't help how confident the ride feel's. Ride position is not as good as the ZR7S, mainly knee angel is tighter.

I'm also used to motorcycle whit top or full fairing so no wind protection feels a bit odd but guess it's a thing you can get used to?

So now new sparkplugs and some more riding to then decide is this a motorcycle that I will love or list.

If I turn to love it might change to rubber that feels better in the wet

[image: large.IMG_20250419_125442.jpg.571977b96b5c2f25b2db7a45f88bc9e1.jpg]

The Road 5 I got for the ZR7S where great rubber...

Sunday spin whit a quiet regular stop

a cafe along my favorite road

Then it was like I been through a teleport

But no, not on Dutch ground, just a spin thro town next to mine that has a wind mil

Transalp is still doing great 👍

#209

Out on a spin whit Transalp on my favorite road's again, just can't get enough of this road

And now 2 week s vaccination starts, so more time to ride as work on bikes 😊

#210

After adjusting valve clearance on the other VFR in the morning decided to go for a ice cream in the afternoon on the Transalp, as today it's finally like Summer and 25°C (so you want to ride not 35-45°C line mid/south Europe)

[image: large.1000048826.jpg.53fd5a1d43815553b8640cdf0b3669b7.jpg]

And Yes, I still fit my size 48 leathers!

I'm perhaps boring, but I just love to ride my favorite road to that same cafe

[image: large.1000048831.jpg.0f499702604d72635f03182f05a65ef9.jpg][image: large.1000048828.jpg.a05011782482b93bb0e51f802f253153.jpg]

And a picture from on way home

[image: large.1000048833.jpg.58274669f99627b2e4e14098870d812e.jpg]

I guess my tires are safe for my roads I prefer to ride

[image: large.1000048834.jpg.0666f8a4672e6dbfcfda5abe97f95d30.jpg]

A tiny bit of chicken strip still but almost to edge.

The Transalp is perfectly capable to have fun on twisty tarmac road's 😎 So much fun as joy!

#211

What is better than a afternoon ride after some vfr work in the garage, especially as weather is nice, 26°C at highest and sunny ☀️ 😎

[image: large.1000048876.jpg.84872487512e54812b787328618f976c.jpg][image: large.1000048877.jpg.05fe385fab850cf3ed4c5a7440981116.jpg]

This time to a other cafe that has a bit bigger road there, "the green hell" I call it, lots of small elevation change's as curves, shame half the road has a 60km/h restriction these days, your driver's license is sure out in the wind.....

[image: large.1000048884.jpg.b0d3e8beeeeb9e8e29ad1a17519a118c.jpg]

But still a delight to ride !

#212

The SevenFifty exhaust is off as the opened silencers cut off

[image: large.1000049018.jpg.f30f768a99cf214016ba1d96bf8040e2.jpg]

[image: large.1000049015.jpg.3862312e555793725918eb050dd19bef.jpg]

I must say the exhaust is more corroded than you could see as it's mounted, so it needs a bit more care than planned. Next I did smooth the old weld's of headers as oncoming silencers.

[image: large.1000049020.jpg.11d2875efb0fa22fafc15295c54b4ee8.jpg][image: large.1000049021.jpg.16dfb5e088a4f46511160e340b2a7697.jpg]

Next to mount back as wait for my friend to have time and come and weld the healthy silencers on.
