VFR Discussion Group -> Road Trip to West Virginia (North part)

I am planning a trip with five to eight guys down to West Virginia. I am looking for any suggestions on roads or areas to avoid. We will be setting out on a Friday morning from Winchester VA and not returning until Saturday evening. Does anyone know of a good route for some moderate aggressive riding?

I will be sure to post the pics, once we get back.

US Hwy. 33 is good from west of Harrisonburg, Va. to St Hwy 32wva east of Elkins, Parts of St Hwy 28 (wva) US Hwy 250 is good, US Hwy 219 around Mingo WVa is good St Hwy 150 off 219 just north of Edray is good down to St Hwy 39 theres plenty more great roads over that way, dont know how much you want to cover?

Ditto that! I road some of these same roads last year on my way to Rolling Thunder in DC. The roads quoted here are awesome. Put these on your agenda if you can. Trust me...you'll like them.

I haven't ridden there, yet, but soon will!

From Winchester take 50 west all the way till you get to the tip of MD, then 219S, take 219 to Rt 72, left on 72. 72 to 32, right on 32, 32 merges with 33 stay on 33 east to past Seneca rocks, take 33 all the way to Harrisonburg. Turn around lather rinse repeat.

72 has a ton of switch backs, its a little gravely in places though


Also check out rt 250, Rt 9 near Berkely Springs is good too.

A good place to stay overnight is the Marlinton area, further down on 219.

I spent a week down there last August, stayed at the lodge at the Snow Shoe resort. Went out riding each day, came back to the lodge (indoor parking) in the evening and enjoyed a fine meal and beverages :beer:
