It's that time of year again, the Fall Catskills ride is back again! We have a new location and new lodging this year! Looks like Mother Nature may have some mercy on us this year as well!
A special note... it has come to my attention that over the last few years there are members here who have chosen not to attend one or more of my rides because of the presence of one individual. I find this bothersome and so I would like to (finally) publicly say: Dino, you are not invited. Please do not come to my rides. I know this sounds horrible to those "not in the know" and I apologize for that. I can live with that if it means that the people I value more will attend.
Please accept my apology for the airing of grievances, and read on for ride details...
***Room rates are a bit higher than last year, holiday rate applies.***
***Also, due to the holiday weekend, there is a 2-night minimum charge***
Friday night = $78.00 + tax. (2 double beds) Saturday night = $78.00 + tax (2 double beds)
-or- Friday night = $88.00 + tax. (2 queen beds) Saturday night = $88.00 + tax (2 queen beds)
This rate is for 1 or 2 people per room, no extra charges for 2nd person.
***Smoking & Non-Smoking available, only 6 smoking rooms total***
***This motel does not offer any breakfast or beverages, complimentary or otherwise.***
Some notes about this motel:
- it is easy to get to from north or south
- there is a decent restaurant within easy walking distance
- it is close to some good area roads
I have eaten there with my family, and we have ordered pizza numerous times. Every time it was average or better, and the prices are reasonable. I hear the breakfast is kick ass.
I wanna go, but it depends on the white-shirts on the 3rd floor at work (Who are very displeased right now with "Sgt. Timmy-not a team player-Steffes" right now)
I have gotten to the point where the ride up is no big ordeal and I am sure it will be fun. Anyways it is physically impossible for it to be as wet as last year so sign up, you bastages.
Just a quick note I forgot to include earlier - the motel is not allowing me to reserve a block of rooms, so please, call to reserve at your earliest convenience.
I will edit my first post with this info later today.
How will Timmmaaay's girlfreind know where to go to bum a smoke?
How will the meal be delayed this year?
Seriously, if you have wondered about the roads around central NY or Woodstock you should attend this ride. You could not find a better group of guys to ride with and hang out with afterwards.
count me in, looking forward to exploring that area, just made reservations I haven't spent enough time on vfr this year and this falls between 2 big jobs perfectly, I'm not a fan of n.j. turnpike was thinking n.e. extension to 209 then up, any thoughts.
Seb,
I'm going to try to work this out & will confirm in a week or so. Fingers crossed. This is one I really look forward to each year.
Joe Bone for sure won't be going tho as he had his FZ6 stolen from his locked garage a few weeks back so he's without a pair of wheels at the current time...bastages!
Holiday weekend? Growing up in So. Fla. I had no idea Columbus Day was a holiday beyond getting a Monday off school in October. Occasionally I would get my birthday off as a result. Wasn't until The Sopranos came on that I had any idea it was actually a thing! Maybe only in NY/NJ?
Pencil me in.

Someone here made the mistake of thinking Columbus day was one of the days they got work off....
I haven't decided which bike to ride, but the ST does have a TPMS installed by the previous owner...
ahhhhh..........so I might hold off on buying new rubber for the 4th gen.........there's not enough meat on the rear to get from the Catskills to Atlanta
 dammit.............'spose I could ride the Blast :tour:
 ......where ya been?? Glad to see you never mailed the VFRD letter of resignation. Drive up for happy hour...........your RWB might even be there!!
Hello all, new to the site but not to bikes. Finally got my dream bike! 99 VFR800 and been logging miles. I would like to attend and have parents that live in East Durham. 20 mins from the hotel. I would like to tag along with like minded bike nuts. Riding up from my home in central Jersey. Looking forward to it. I will take some glam shots and post this weekend. Of the bike, that is. Now, I just have to come over and put Timmy out of his ping pong misery
Sounds like this ride will be as much fun as the others.
Now, to get to work on another kitchen pass
I've been very busy this year and would like to go, however, I'm getting married that weekend. I'm out for another year. Maybe we could celebrate our anniversary next year there, though. Hmm... I wonder how that conversation is going to go.
Congrats! We now have one more reason to celebrate on Saturday night. There's a good chance the ride will be 1 week earlier
next year, so hopefully we'll see you in 2013.
I contacted the Cha Cha Hut and told them to expect hungry bikers for lunch on the 6th! :-)

I was there 3 weeks ago with a bunch of hungry bikers and I got right in line while everyone else cued for the john. I got the last of the beef brisket.
Clever, but you just showed your hand. I will be looking for that play. The weather has been outstanding for riding and I have been dialing in my bike. I am really fond of this thing allready. I am looking forward to checking out all you bar set ups. I may need to do something, my back is complaining. Chow

Good news everyone!
Chain is OK, all it needed was a good cleaning and a little tightening up.
Looks like I can make the trip on the VFR instead of the ST. It is, after all, a VFRD ride...

I took a vacation day, mounted a new front tire and went for a ride in the Catskill Park today. All of the roads and bridges have been repaired (or replaced)
since last year's hurricane. The 2012 Fall Ride should be a great one.
We all appreciate you "taking one for the team" Brian. :fing02:
Speaking of tires, I need to order some as I just picked up a sharp object with my rear and I'm not too enthused with the old Corsa 3 I threw on the front a while back. Gonna be an expensive month.
New Kawi Concours 14, just picked it up this year as a leftover.
The VFR was borrowed by my brother-in-law last month and he managed to crash twice in one day
I'm still in the process of fixing/replacing all the parts (left rad, peg hanger, bar and lever, etc.), but I keep putting it off to allocate funds for other projects.
Sooooooo, I'll most likely take the Connie. Not as nimble as the VFR, but it's not like I ride like Rossi anyway :goofy:

I just made my reservations. FYI, I got the sense that rooms are filling up. If you're on the fence, you might want to grab a room now.
Done and Done!
I made a reservation earlier today also. Mention our group when you call.........it doesn't get you a discount, but they will know to try to cluster VFRD rooms.
Heavy rain last night has made things a mess for a few days but most of the Catskill roads were unscathed.
Let's see, baby born on 10-Sept. On full time duty b/c mommy had c-section, Also have some projects aroudn the house. Let me see if I can get some stuff squared away and hopefully i can make it~
I don't know about you guys, but I am having some fierce cravings for ribs!!
I have new rubber in hand, should be installing this weekend, just in time to scrub them in. I might even find time to toss a bucket of water over my bike, lol!
Is there any schedule of meetup/group rides? I have friends across the river and might come up on short notice and stay with them at night, meet you folks during the day.

Brian offered to show me around on Friday if I got in on Thursday. So that's my plan. We left on Wednesday and arrived on Friday last year, so I figure I'd leave on Tuesday this year.

My new (3000 mile) electrosport stator just shit the bed. Charging at 10 volts. I don't know if I can get it fixed in time. . I have a Honda Pacific Coast you can borrow. Maybe my VFR if Pocono VFR can't make it. I can ride the Triumph. ( If I'm allowed )
I could ride the Seca, but I really do not want to be on the shoulder saying "you see, mr trooper, there is a funny story behind that personalized Michigan tag on there......"

I offered my 4th gen to someone else, but if they don't take it, you're welcome to it. It got a fresh PR2 on the rear today. You have no excuses with
3 offers for Catskill loaner bikes.

Schedules, groups and ride loops haven't been established, but it should be fairly easy to meet..........either at the motel or somewhere along the route.

When was the last time you replaced your fuel filter?Common problem and often overlooked .Dirty filter will burn out a regulator right quick.

Thanks for the heads up! I don't recall the fuel filter in the maintenance schedule so I never thought much about it. How does the filter affect the regulator? I assume you mean the voltage regulator

Less fuel to the intake of the fuel pump and it works harder, drawing much more current than it should.Doesn't mean this is what caused Timmy's to fry,but it does happen and if no other obvious reasons it may be it.
Change your regulator, change your filter if you haven't done recently.

Seb: How are the fall colors up your way? Just getting started here.
Here ya go Dave,...This was taken about an hour a go,near my house in Ulster Co.Im organizing a Ducati ride near Bear Mountain next Sunday ,so had her out to make sure all was good.Anyone heading south on Sunday would be welcome to join us.We'll be in the Bear Mountain area.
Man, I had all sorts of maintenance plans for my VTEC this week, hope I get to them! Tires, oil, flush brake & clutch, wash, remove racks, adjust & lube chain... Basically all the stuff I've been meaning to do all summer! Ha!
All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go... :tour:
As the sole representative of The South, I'm bringing a special present for our illustrious event organizer.
I'm on the way, day one complete! Got to hit TN68, Cherohala, 129 and lunch at Gap Store, 28 through Fontana, and some hours on the BRP! Roads don't get much better than those!
Friday is 80 degrees and sunny..................Saturday is low 60's and a 30% chance of showers. The weather looks
much better than last year's Catskill ride. I'm done with work in 24hours and will be prepping for fun......both on and
off the bike !! There are probably a few participants that have an extra bed in their room........ if anyone wants to join
the ride last minute.
Hey folks, I was on my way and I had a friend following me up as far a Pt Jervis and he had an accident along the way. I had to follow his ambulance to Newton Medical Center. He is going to be ok, but he has a broken ankle from nailing the guardrail. I got out of there at 6:15 so I just headed home. Sorry I couldn't make it.

Quote for the evening:
Looks like the balls are nice and dry. Nope they're wet too.
I like how you tactfully leave out who the one feeling the balls was.
I'm sure you can guess! :D
Says the guy we had to wait for. ( popular consensus pointed to his having to have a pre-ride rub out )
I see by Cha Cha Huts Facebook page that they got very busy today with a special mention of a Sebastian and his riding partners. I assume that's 'Seb' and you guys. Jealous, I've been wanting to go to Palenville and try their Q.
Home safe. Thanks to everyone who came out this year. It was a smaller group, but still an outstanding time. Special thanks goes to Seb (aka: Ball Rider) for once again hosting and sharing his home turf with us and Brian (aka RamBall Thief) for scouting, sweeping and finding the way.
Made it to Woodstock VA. Thanks to Brian for a nice ride out of town, and Bob and Dan for taking over when he went home. Dan's tire was showing cords by the time he got to his exit!

I looked and it seems there is a severe shortage of pics. I guess I spent most of the time with a beverage in hand. I do have a surprising amount of food pics. I'll post when it gets slower at work.
Lessons learned:
-Maple whiskey should not be chased with Sam Adams
-There is no substitute for good heated gear
-ChaCha hut burps are not as tasty as the food itself
-There is a severe lack of coffee establishments in NY
Mostly, the Catskills are beautiful. If you've never been, you need to go.
After a day and a half of crap weather, it's hard to say if I picked the right day to leave. I did really enjoy the ride out with Bob and Dan and of course Brian leading before heading home. Was nice to have some company on the slab portion after. Today was nasty, but I have what looks (on the map) to be an interesting ride tomorrow in nice weather. Wednesday is back to Deals Gap and Cherohala. Also supposed to be good weather. So it'll be a great wrap up!

Yes, that was me/us. They are in Arkville, by the way - not Palenville.
We couldn't find any adults, so we got Eric to do his best best impression. I don't think we convinced anyone, but at least they didn't give us too much grief about it.
