All righty then! let's try and plan a good old fashion hootinanny in the Ozarks. I think we are looking at the weekends of Sept 23, 30, and October 14, 21 as options. All day or all weekend ride, whatever. I really don't want to hear anything about someone riding for 8 hours to meet up just in time to ride twisties for a few hours so, let's be realistic.

I don't know where we should meet up exactly, but Rolla seems like a fairly nice starting point. I can put up some people in my house, and if we need more space, my landlord charges $65 a week (probably less if I just ask for a few rooms for the weekend. BTW my house is a 17 bedroom 2 1/2 kitchen 6 bathroom 1800's house that is sectioned off into three areas and rooms, so space is not really a problem, (after the landlord and I put some carpet down this weekend unsure.gif ).

I think just about anywhere south and east should be a good ride, but I promise to ride the crap out of some roads after I get my steed down here. I know of my own personal mini-dragon and am willing to share, but it is only 10 miles, and I know there are longer/safer roads on the other side of town. I know there are some people on here that know these roads better than I do, so speak up now or later. laugh.gif

So let's hear it. Who wants to come? and what days listed would not work.

Non-VFRs are welcome as long as they are cool, biggrin.gif

(to be completed as the info gets decided on)
Where: Walmart at 500 South Bishop off the Hyway 63 / I-44 exit (coming into town, from the north it is on 63(also Bishop) on the right hand side of the road)
When: 10:00 AM 23 September
Ride Distance:
Weather Concerns: Not yet.
Contact: me

The 23rd is the only weekend that I would be able to make it. I'd be in for only a day trip, but would be willing to be there at what ever time needed in the morning. I also may have a buddy that would love to come and be the sweeper, he rides a cruiser, but rides well and quick.
#3
I'll be back down to the FLW area 20 October to 13 April 07... so anytime after the 20th works great for me.

Excellent rides down around the Eminence area... especially toward the end of October as the tourists will be mostly cleared out by then. I can also put up a couple people in my apartment in Waynesville if needed (about 30 miles from Rolla).

I'm flexible on dates - count me in.
Open to ride length as well - good roads in that area.

I'm in for about any time. I'm in South MO in Mtn View, just off 60 and 63... great roads around here too. We've got a pretty good motel in town as well if we want a southerly base. Any thoughts on camping in Eminence or Van Buren?
#6
Bump, lets make this happen.

Bump, lets make this happen.

Agreed, we need to get some definates happening here or no one will show up on two days notice.

errr, so i looked at the dates again and it looks like three people are able to on three seperate days.

I'm thinking lets go out on all these weekends. I'm just kidding.... or am I.

I am thinking that since Chris is talking about cming from the furthest away, we ought to work around the 23rd. Us southern MO boys can get together all of these dates farily easily.

Thoughts? Opinions? Bribes?
#8
i dig the bribes... anybody got any cash for my wife... then maybe i CAN do nothing but ride all those weekends.
upon further inspection, i'm not on for the 30th. i've got volunteer duties for my town festival.
keep the plan's a comin'
also, i've got a buddy with an st1300 here in town, i'll talk to him, but i'm sure he'd be up for a ride.
#9
I voted for 30 Sept but can be flexible. I'm in full agreement w/ making this happen....
#10
Ok, so if I'm given say a week or two notice, I can PROBABLY sneak down that direction from Wisconsin (I'm do to FLW, MO on 20 October and I'm originally from Dixon, MO)... so give me a solid date(s) and I'll try my best to be there.. just need to time to plan/organize my work schedule.

Just info - the BMW Rider's Club Falling Leaf Rally in Potosi is the 13-15 October.... The Rally is hosted at the Lion's Club fair grounds at the intersection of highways 185 and 8...

Umm, since you put it that way......... any other offers out there?

Seriously though, I'm leaning a little towards the 23rd of September here. I think we might have a bigger turnout on that weekend. Can we get a referee's ruling on the field here? (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/biggrin.gif)

After consulting with the other refs, it looks like they are saying the 23rd is a winner? anyone second this date?

Will this be a 'spirited' or 'casual' ride? That'll determine if the wife is riding pillion or not... (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/smile.gif)
#14
Hmm, my pace........ It's probably more about you and your wife. I've taken my mom out for spirited rides. She has miles and miles as a pillon in Virginia from before I was a possibility though.

Any thoughts on camping in Eminence or Van Buren?

Let's talk about this for a minute. Learn me, will you?

#15
camping in eminence or van B would involve either cabins (either overpriced or wildly overpriced, depending on if they consider it out of season or not) or pitching tents. The major benefit of this is the ability to walk to a tavern for red meat and whiskey / beer. OR camping with the traditional campfire, comradery, drunking, and grilling. beer.gif
the camping can be as chill or as rediculous as we make it. there really is a decent place in eminence that we could get cabins and walk to, or there are several nice campgrounds on the jack's fork river.
i'm rambling now, i better get some work done
the 23rd sounds great for me... right on right on
#16
As stated above I'm in for the 23rd, but will just be able to attend for that day. I'll be there at what ever time in the morning I need to. So I guess I third it or something.
#17
Sounds like 23 September is the date. Now where and what time are we meeting???
#18
00Yeller, are you going to ride up on Firday night or Saturday morning? If Sturday, want to try to meet and ride together?
#19
The 23rd works ok for me. Van Buren would work a little better for me (lived there years ago and we go back every summer to "float") ... but Eminence is just a short jaunt up the road... so I can show up Friday night/Saturday morning either way.

If we're still just looking for options at this point, VB has campgrounds right on the river, there's a couple of "down n dirty" motels there I've stayed that weren't expensive (40-50 a night if I remember right)
Smalley's and the Starlight. There's also a nicer hotel overlooking the river - The Landing/The Lodge... PLUS... OMG now I'm getting excited... The JOLLY CONE restaurant!! They still have a billboard up as you come into town for the Jolly Cone that says "Scream till your Dad stops the car" - great line smile.gif
OK... so I get hyped about the simple things... the JC is an institution since the 50's!!

Just throwin that info out there FWIW.

I'm liking the idea of straping a tent to my bike and heading for the wilds. Sitting around a fire, bench racing and drinking some tasty beverages. Waking up, eating around what is left of the fire while everyone else gets into town and riding some sweet roads. Yea, I think I might be needing that about right now.

#21
Chris2992, I'll be riding out on Saturday morning. Let's do ride out there together...

#22
fing02.gif
#23
I'll be riding from Waynesville, MO on Saturday morning... if anyone is out my direction, let me know if you want to ride to the meet point together...

SO... what time and where exactly?

Jeff.
#24
I just map quested all 3 locations from St. Louis, results as follows:
1) Van Buren - 200mi - 3 hrs 30min (all slab)
2) Eminence - 190mi - 4 hrs (1/2 and 1/2 slab and back roads)
3) Rolla - 120mi - 2 hrs (all slab)
Any location is good with me, but if we do one of the first 2, 10 am would be about the earliest I'd be able to make it.

Ahh ha Mapquest. That's right down the street from me. There's a very nice Ford dealer in St. Robert. If I had a Ford...... it would probably be there three or four times a month laugh.gif Seriously, I trust those guys (had a friend be a guinea pig), they are professionals.

So, I was looking at HWY 160 south of VB. That might be a nice jog. Throw in some HWY 19 for fun and try and round it out with a stretch of non-slab with a place to eat in there. Hell, we could just agree to meet somewhere and as long as one person brings a map, we're cool. fing02.gif

To camp or not to camp.... I have not been on the bike in two weeks now. I know I'll still be knee deep in Dynamics and Thermo and..... Sounds like fun..... Requires me "aquiring" the tent left in my parents garage for a bit too long now.... Fresh air.....

Then again, we could start a procession from St. Louis and have people join up along the way. It could be pretty fun riding 19 down to Eminance from Rolla with a largish crowd.

Ohh man, and my parts are still not to the shop that is working on my bike.
#26
If we're camping, I could likely bring a truck load of firewood over and hold the campsite(s) friday afternoon. I'm only 40 miles from eminence and 45 from van B. There is also the option of deer run @ van buren. it has both camping and cabins. Last winter i headed over there and the winter rate on a cabin was pretty cheapo. don't know if they'd be using winter rates yet though.
At least we've got a date picked, right?
I'm fairly local here, so if there is any checking around that needs to be done I'm willing to put in some time.

I think Mapquest was trying to pull a fast one... no "slab" into Van Buren (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/smile.gif)
#28
Hum... 67 towards Popular Bluff and 60 over to Van Buren. Looks like slab, smells like slab must be slab...
#29
so can we get a potential roll call of who all would be in for this ride?

i'm about 85% in... i usually don't know until the day of anything if i'm going to be there or not.
#30
Ok... so lets get some stuff nailed down...

1. Where exactly will we 'officially' meet as a group?

2. What time?

3. Is there anyone riding from Rolla to the meet spot on the day of the ride? If so, when/where would you like to meet if you're interested in riding with me to the group meet spot?

I'm liking this...
#31
I think we are starting to get this thing to gel. Let's keep it up.

1) First things first, how serious was this camping talk? I am beginning to think I will need to spend my Friday night in the books. One too many classes, or one too many hours on VFRD? You decide. Somewhere in the back of my mind I would like to even come out and set up camp late, but that is probably not a good idea.

Then, where? If there is a group of campers, I say meet there. If not, we ought to find a place that people waiting can have a nice seat and maybe some sceanery..... any parks in the area?

2) I say we try to make the final meeting time approximately the same time that Chris and the St. Louis crowd make it in. If we have taken a camp site over, then people could potentially show up as early as they want. In case the Easterners, or anyone else take longer than expected, I would like to have a nice place to sit around and BS. Something about sitting at a gas station makes me cringe.

3) I will be. Where to meet? Lots of places, my house is easy to give directions to, Wal-Mart is a major attraction in this town, Lowe's is just on the edge of town, it would be fun to park some VFRs at UMR, but there is no "legal" parking that is setup for good pictures.. When, well what route are the easterners coming? If they are riding through Rolla, we can try and hook up with them, if not we can meet up with plenty of time to ride to the final meet place at the time decided by the fellas coming through STL

ha ha, I answered three questions with more questions. I'm gonna be a gooda engineera.
#32
I, as well as 00yellow and my buddy, would prefer to meet in Rolla and make a loop south and hit all the fun roads, then be able to split from the group so as not to make a 600 mile day out of it. I would prefer a leasurely day roaming the back roads. There is my input.
#33
Ok, we are getting down to crunch time now. No one has made a definitive call, so I will, Sept 23rd is our ride day. Who is in and who is out? And those that are in, what time and where are we meeting?
#34
I don't know how it is going elsewhere, but the big morning storm has ended and it is down to light drizzle. The clouds are starting to break up, but the roads are wet and looking to stay that way.
#35
S-n-S is on HWY 63 just North of I-44, on the right hand side... if you pass Lowe's, then you've gone too far... when do you plan on being at SnS?

#36
lol... I'm not sure, but I think I can feel all of my toes again... (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/biggrin.gif)
#37
wow... you guys are lucky! i'm still frozen!

AND when i got home, those sweet tires of mine are showing steel belts! sweet!

good ride, gentlemen. lets do it again, shortly after I install heated grips
#38
Dude! I was wondering how close you were to showing steel on them tires of yours... time for you to purchase some Pilot Roads... EXCELLENT tires...

(IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/+1.gif) on the heated grips... I've got to get hot (no pun intended) on that..

I'm sure glad you were able to make it... I had a great time... I think the next tour, Chev and I need to come down your direction and you lead the way.
