What ever you come up with, it's probably wrong. The speedo's on these things suck. And when you add it to the natural bull shitting abilities of VFR riders, you need to subtract about 10 percent. My sprockets is on a one tooth reduced diet and I have no idea what the top end really is. I do know it will get me a ticket faster then I can believe and that it is possible to bring up the front end exiting a tight corner in second with just throttle....but then this is only on red VFR's. For the other color VFR's you need to devide by 2 or use your wife or girlfriends bra size times 3.

Too Funny! If I multiply my wife's bra size three times I'll still go faster in my 72 Pinto.
I am not really into top speed, but curiosity and a wide open stretch of 3 lane interstate got the best of me one day. At an indicated 142 I ran out of nerve and backed off. Don't think I will ever go there again.
I have seen an indicated 150. So that's probably 140-ish to a radar gun (fortunately, none were around at that time).
At 130-ish indicated, there is a definate sense of speed that you just don't get below that. It is a strange quantum effect, but I don't feel fast at the indicated 112+ (VTEC transition in 6th) anymore... as the tach needle gets vertical... the world seems to dialate and I get a bit nervous.

You've been to the Dark Side and once there you will return.
I have had my 04 VFR topped out twice. The first time with the hard bags in place. The speedometer stopped at 150 mph. The next run was with them removed. The speedometer stopped at 160 mph and around 10,700 rpm or so. The bike stopped pulling short of the redline and was definitely drag limited.
I would guess that the bike will really do 145-150-ish.
I have not had the chance as of yet to see what it will do according to my GPS...But I will. When I do I'll post the results here on VFRD.
During the bagless run there was also a Kawasaki Z1000, a Buell XB12R, Two CBR 600 RR's, and an RC51 that took part in the festivities. The RC51 simply disappeared from us all, The Z1000 got passed by my VFR and the CBR's around 130 mph and faded rapidly in the mirrors after that. The XB12R got left by everyone when the the gas got opened and the gears got downshifted. The CBR's (both with TBR exhausts BTW) jumped out on my VFR by about 3 bike lengths but could not pull away until 140 mph. After that they slowly opened an ever widening gap until my VFR stopped pulling. I'd say the CBR 600 RR will beat the VFR on top speed by about 7-10 mph. Give or take a couple of mph.

I always get into trouble whenever going over the Astoria Bridge, whether it be a car or bike. Got up to 132 indicated the last time I went over it, which was the first time on the VFR.
There's just something about a bridge that's four miles long and nowhere for cops to hide, or have any reason to be crossing it. biggrin.gif
Astoria Bridge, Oregon and Washington State (US101) There is a magnificent bridge over the Columbia River near its mouth at Astoria, Oregon. The bridge carries US101, the Pacific Coast Highway, between Oregon and Washington State. There is a high steel girder section at each end of the bridge but the main lengthy central section is a low level artificial causeway. There is no town at the northern end of the bridge but the town of Astoria is located at its southern end. An excellent view of the bridge can be had from the Astoria Column. The bridge was completed in 1966. The southern high steel girder section of this bridge forms the world's longest continuous truss bridge, with a 1232 feet span. The entire bridge is about four miles long. This bridge was until recently subject to a toll but the toll booths have now been removed.
Just a word of caution for anyone who may think they've missed out on something and has to try a high-speed run for the first time....
I'm not recommending anyone do this, but for godsake if you MUST, remember to keep your head down and body crouched. NEVER stick your head up or think its safe because you don't feel much wind turbulance. Wait till the bike is well below 80 before you even think about relaxing your posture.
If that wind grabs you at over 100+, it will splay you out like those drag cutes they put on funny-cars.
I remember seeing a Cycle World test of the 6th Generation VFR. In the test specs, Cycle World quoted a measured top speed of 148 mph. All the actual-speed responses to this thread seem to support Cycle World's measurment.
I have seen 131 mph on my '03. That was good enough for me.
TwistedGrip, Apr 14 2005, 02:43 PMLast run 2 weeks ago showed 147 GPS... 156 speedo.
WOW! The most accurate speedometer ever! LOL! I've maxed my '99 out at 149 GPS. My speedo has been well into the 160's on several non GPS occasions, while not maxed out. Say what you want about the differences between the 5th and 6th Gen's. They are rated at the same HP, and the 6th is heavier.
Speedo - 158, slowed her down and 2 minutes later a state trooper nailed me. He asked if I realized I was doing 91 mph, I replied . . . for real? wink.gif

First time on my '03 I was doing about ~100 when the VTEC kicked in. Good thing I was low on the bike, cause I was doing 130+ before I could blink. At 130 my helmet started sliding up on my head (need a smaller size). Bart is right on about no sitting up before 80-90mph, if I did, the bike would have for sure finished the ride without me.
Left work a little early yesterday and when hoping on the highway noticed there was no traffic...I have a new high. 143 indicated on the speedo. After slowing to a more reasonable speed I had a smile on my face from ear to ear. I love my bike, I just wish I could ride more. Still haven't hit 1000 miles! pissed.gif

I stuck my head up once at 130+. COMPLETELY freaked me out because the wind tried to rip my head off. Made me lose focus on what I was doing. Like being hit with a softball bat. I "come to" and slide off the throttle. Rode the rest of the way home at 70...
I opened up my viffer today, I quit at 140 indicated, it had plenty more in it (well, it was a bit downhill). GPS showed 128mph. It's definitely good for another 10mph, not sure about the rider though.. smile.gif
Last summer one fine day I backed out of it at 150 indicated as I was coming to the end of the closed road course straight. biggrin.gif It felt very stable and was still slowly accelerating.
I sold my old '99 CBR F4 to a friend last year and we had opportunity to race 0-??? several times and tho I always got the jump from a standstill, by top of his 2nd gear he was pulling by and 3-5 bike lengths by the time we got into 140 ish range.
Personal best is 148. That is the corrected indicated. The tach was about 9300 or so. WHich tells me that is about all she's got. At least before I have a custom map made.
either im a wuss or you guys are crazy(maybe both) im not much into top speed im over 100mph all the time but ive only got to about 120mph and it feels fast enough for me 491.gif
Red02VfrTony, May 30 2005, 04:40 PMI saw an indicated 158 mph; so whatever that equates to accurately; who knows... dry.gif
Using the correction factor that I have devised, if you have stock sprocket, I would estimate that to be about 143 actual. My fastest so far is 142 indicated, which GPS'd to 130 actual. My correction formula: Indicated less 10%, then add 1 mph - tracks pretty true to my GPS. I am stock sprockets, running Michelin Powers.

P.S. The rural two lanes that I ride are looking real narrow at these speeds...
For what it's worth saw 154 on my 4G even though it was a short burst say 2-3 miles. I've held 130 for over 25 miles would have gone longer if I hadn't got tired of being tucked in, seems sooo slow when you come down to 80 wierd feeling. Seen 165 on the 954 thats an easy one to ride at insane speeds, only do that out in the back country where I have a long line of sight. can only imagine what a 24 hour speed test would be like. In comment to the fellow who went across the Astoria Bridge, must of been a windless day, as I've been across that bridge a many times and have very gusty side drafts, though it is very tempting to go flat out especially coming from theAstoria side getting that down hill push, but the wind is very tricky. I'd say you where lucky that day.
I thought that being an 800 engine will pull more speed but that is about what I get with my FZ6 600 145-155mph, just done it once and scare the crap out of me, I will leave it for the track though.
Since I am close to get the VFR I will be posting some questions on the VTEC features.
