2006 PNW Meet and Greet

Have never riden (or driven) South past Vancouver, so I'd most likely want to meet up with the
GWNC (Great White North Contingency) and travel down in pack. 

The ride to the ride should be quite a ride!  Only 44 more days to 1st ride :thumbsup:

Just to get the ball rolling, for our cross-border jaunts, we usually meet at the Campbell River Store just before the truck crossing (not the Peace Arch crossing) at 790 176 Street (at 8th Avenue), Surrey, BC. The truck crossing is usually quicker than Peace Arch. (I tried to add a map but evidently cannot uploaded a GIF). This link will have to do for now:

Lots of room to park bikes, you can grab a cup of coffee and meet up there before heading across the border. As we get closer, we can start to arrange times etc...

BTW, I ride year round in Vancouver and have been out regularly with the current nice weather. Just got to bundle up a l'il bit!

Damn though - this is going to get confusing - too many Tony's coming from the Great White North :blink:

It's not the cold, as we have had many +10 days here. It's recovering from surgery, free storage in the show room,
deciding on modifications, a trip to Cozumel in March and the goal of April 1 as first ride/insurance day!.

I could be tough to find if you used the map. I just re-checked the map on the link and its wrong - the store is at the intersection of 8th and 176th. Oh well...

No problem. When the dates get closer, I'll confirm the meet location and print a route map from my system. Then, from there, we can all get lost together.

We'll also have to arrange a travel schedule that will work with all us Northerners.
If Gypsy is coming down, I'm sure she'll need a little between travel time breaks, coming from Way up North.

I'm sorry what is the proposed date for this?

Third weekend in August. Meet Thurs. to ride down, return on Sunday.

Just to whet everyone's appetite, Keith (keithbob) and I rode a couple hours' worth of NW Oregon roads together last Sunday. The weather and road conditions were perfect for February and the curves were amazing. Lot's of 2nd gear hard-leaning, quickly transitioning switchbacks and good pavement.

I can now say from personal experience: The 2006 PNW Meet will be worth the trip! And for those of you coming from up north, ask Keith about some great routes between Olympia and Newport. He knows them well.

And the cool VFR guardrail. That was a super day of riding, at least after lunch. The rain in the morning around Raymond sort of sucked, but that's riding. Magellan met up with us at Clatskanie for lunch, and after seeing my brother off (he headed back for Tacoma on his Shadow 1100) we took off on 47 south to Mist. Loni had never done that road, and when he pulled up next to me in Mist the huge grin about split his helmet open.

We headed to Jewell, and then down 53. Loni turned for home about 1/3 of the way down, but we still had a great time, even if too short. Check out the nice job he did on his exhaust - pretty custom, and a great use of, um, stock parts.

OK, '06 PNW meet news.

1 - As I'm working with local breweries and eateries, I really need to have a handle on how many are showing up, and where to email/snail-mail info to as the time approaches. Please, please PM me with contact info if you are coming, or if you haven't already. I will be starting a new thread in the future listing who has PMed, and will edit the post regularly as new info is available. Keep an eye out.

2 - There was grumbling about my not planning for a tech session, which I have pondered upon, and now offer a proposal. Thoughts of BLS and the belly dancer last year suggest to me that a discourse by Larry on suspension systems would be enlightening to all. I've always been picky about front-end feel, and we all know that Honda has long encouraged cross-training for their engineers. What say, Larry?

3 - There have been past complaints about a lack of a coffee maker at Keithbob's house by certain rider's, arriving after not having properly prepared for the day's weather (these are Oregonians!). While I can't be responsible for their discomfort, nor can I have any sympathy for their nose-thumbing attitude toward my offering of a strong cup of Earl Grey or English Breakfast tea, I have decided to cater to their whimpering and yesterday purchased a Cuisenart coffee maker. There is a fresh can of Fred Meyer Premium Blend in the cupboard, along with the prescribed #2 paper filters. If this is unsatisfactory, you may bring beans of your own choosing. The Spong awaits you, clamped to the kitchen shelf.

Hey, looking forward to another summer of riding. On the motorcycle today, skiing tomorrow. Ain't life grand?

session covering suspension or tire pressure or body positioning or even belly dancing...
all I need is Alan's famous wet bar VFR... to enlighten us...

#2.....this is a perfect fit, as very few seem to really understand the dynamics of suspension. My new bike is fully adjustable and I took full advantage of all the adjustments. I got it to the point it wouldnt corner worth crap! After digging out the book and going back to stock settings, it works great!!!! #3 Well theres nothing like a cup of gray tay, to warm the bones. So???? short of a full blown snowmachine suit, how does one "attire" himself for this weather??? Sittin there with your pansy electric grips! Bring my own beans I will, and it will take a pretty stiff spoon to get it into the cup..........I'LL show ya how ta make COFFEE!

Yea, us Oregonians love our coffee! Well, alot of us. Others prefer tea which is just fine too! But, I do love a nice strong cup of coffee, the kind where the spoon stands straight up in the cup. :P

On the suspension comment, that would be fantastic. Perhaps as a part of that, a group SAG session, helping everyone get the sag set correctly? Get an assembly line going for those who haven't set it in a while or want to tweak it. just a thought. I'll have my new suspension (hopefully) by then. :)

Yea, hwy 47 is a lot of fun when it's not hunting season (too many huge pick'em up trucks over the yellow line) great twisty roads!!!! The Nestucca River road is also similar, a bit faster, and fewer cages. That's one of my favorites. There's a one miles section of gravel though, so if you're not into dirt-trackin it, ride slow.

Looking forward to August already. Got my can of coffee beans and I'm ready to ride!!!

You keep talking about setting SAG and Larry is going to show up very early to this ride !!! Thats assuming of course the female riders allow to check such measurements :D
