VFR Discussion Group -> Miller Motorsports AMA Races

AMA is racing at the new motorsports park south of Salt Lake City June 18th. I have plans to make that a road trip anybody else planning on going to the races?

I'm going. The week of the race I'm taking off from billings on wednesday. I'm going to take the long way there though Idaho to have a look around. I should show up in SLC on Friday. Can't wait. rolleyes.gif

I want to go since PPIR is no longer on the schedule. To far away for me to make concrete plans at this time. I will not be able to commit until early May.

I am planning on going. I have asked for that weekend off work. I enjoyed watching the races at PPIR, but the new track in Utah looks phenomenal! 4.5 miles, 22 turns. Looks like Freddie Spencer is setting up shop there, too.
It would be great to hook up with you along the way.

I've been wanting to see an AMA Superbike race live ever since I started rebuilding Murphy - the bike actually came from Salt Lake City where the previous owner crashed it, so I hope to attend the race there this year and thank the service manager at Salt Lake Honda Suzuki for their assistance.

When you guys get into town give a shout.

I'm supposed to be a corner marshall for the race, but there has been quite the turn out for volunteers. They might not need all the help being offered.

Regardless, we should all try for at least a dinner one night.

Sounds good. Looks like your straight north of Missoula. That may be a good place to meet. I really want to ride US 12 (Lolo Pass) that goes west outta Missoula and get my picture next to the "curves next 70 miles" sign biggrin.gif . If that doesn't work out, I'm game for what ever too.

We'll be at the Ramada Inn near the SLC airport. Everything in Tooele and Grantsville that I could find was already full.

We are gonna stay in Salt Lake City then ride down on that Sunday, expecting the motel rates to be high that weekend. They know we are comming dont they? LOL We are trying to limit the number of days off we are taking so we dont burn up all our personal time. Those small towns near the track are gonna be booked up. Salt Lakes like an Hour away.

PPIR is a non-entity. That race promoter misrepresented himself as a financier and suckered the PPIR board into selling the venue to him. As soon as the deal was done he closed the facility and fired the board. He also put in place a legal hook to prevent any events or similar type facilities being put on the property for 25 years. He will have the bleachers moved to Denver facilities he manages and the rest of the place bulldozed.

The AMA was the first to bail upon hearing of the sale. SCCA and NASCAR followed suit very shortly after. Some pricks just can't keep it in their pants. The venue was good, not great, but very viable. E Bos loved the track and the community loved having it here. I will not go to any of the promoters events...EVER.

I thought ISC, International Speedway Corporation, was the owner of PPIR? And that they just closed it because the NASCAR series they did have there weren't growing. ISC is talking about building a track in Denver if they can't get the folks in the Seattle area to work em a deal to build out there.

Don't forget it's a doubleheader so Friday is qualifying, with Superbike racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Noted on their website they have General or Grandstand seating.

Given that it's a new facility, if it rains and you don't have Grandstand tix you are going to be in a monster mudpit. If it's dry and windy could be a dustbowl, too. dry.gif I am going to ask them about this.

Personally, I would much prefer to bring along my comfy camp chair and park myself where I please than sit in a grandstand.

In reference to your question concerning admission and seating at the
park, all admission will be general. Once you have bought a ticket you
will be able to watch the races or enter the paddock area. Most of the
seating will be outside without covering however, above our Grand Prix
garages we do have covered patio areas that you would be able to get out
of any inclement weather.

Rick we wont be there for the Saturday race or the Friday Qualifing, only One of us could get enough time off to do that, not me, we are leaving Colorado on Friday after work that night, trying to nap till noon, then heading to Park City by Sat Night, spending the day on Sunday and trying to make it to Nephi by the end of the day. We are doing a big loop of Utah the three of us.

Maybe we can meet for breakfast Sunday morning or somthing?

Well, there are two of us coming from Grand Malfunction. We'll probably head up through Vernal, then across the canyons into Cottonwood City, south of SLC. As little slab as possible. smile.gif
Anyone else planning on coming through GJ? Hopefully We'll be heading out Thursday so as to do a bit of skydiving in Tooele before the races...then back Sun or so.

As close to the hotel as possible biggrin.gif . I see on Miller's websight you cant bring coolers in blink.gif but they serve brew at the concessions, I just hope I'll have enough money left for gas on the way home.
