Headlight Access On 6th Gen

Well, I had to turn to the board to figure out how to access the headlight bulbs when I first got my VFR last month (an \'04) . So, now I know & had time to do a little picture tutorial. Hope it helps someone else. I know I was frustrated as heck at first. Begin by removing the small side panels.

Kisan Headlight Modulator plugged onto rear of high beams. This is the low profile version for tight spaces.

I replaced all of my bulbs about 2 months or so ago, but I don't think changing the high beams required removal of the meter panels as I did it in a the advance auto parts parking lot with no tools as I remember.

Ok, I should have indicated that this was for an "04 6th gen bike....don't know about the others! Good catch Jeremy!

Great write up!! I've been meaning to do that for a while now.
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the tabs go behind the meter panel like on mine or is the red just different??

Yes, the tabs are supposed to go behind the meter panel

Yep they do, I need to add a shot, or see if I have one already showing that!

Hm, I've upgraded both my lowbeams and highbeams, plus a Kisan as well, and never had to remove any meter panels... Just turn the handlebars for some room and reach in...

Wished it had been that easy for me. Was no such luck. Had to take the stuff off for access. My bulbs were stuck on w/ something. Actually had to use a small pry bar.,...yeah I know you can"pinch" the sides, but it was a no go. So anyway, figured somebody might could use the pictures. Sometimes seeing is believing!

Yes...I'm sure you could squeeze in there and get them out, but it's really quite a lot easier to just remove the panel.

I replaced my stock bulbs with Silverstars a while back, I had to remove the panels also to do the job. I'm not sure why but I now have the burning wire smell that has been a topic here for a while. I hope the new lights are not the problem. Good write up!

Same for me...I replaced my stock bulbs with the Silverstars (low and high beam) as soon as I took delivery of my leftover '03 in July '05. To date, I have had no problems at all.

Wow, cool. I've replaced a few bulbs by wedging and scraping my hand in and out of that darned compartment. That looks a lot easier.

My headlight lenses fog up inside when ever there is a temperature drop. Do any of you see that?

I have had it happen after I wash one of the bikes & not always. Sometimes it depends on the ambient temp outside. It clears up after the headlight assembly heats up. I let the bike run till the moisture disappears.

Dont forget to add when pulling the connectors off the lamps make sure you push in the little squeeze tabs on the sides to release the connector off the lamp spades....dont ask :P
