With May's low availability of rooms and no local place to HQ, I've decided to return to the April dates of the 27th-30th.
I have Blocked off 10 rooms at the Robbinsville Microtel for our event, they are 2 queen bed NS doubles and are discounted to $67.46 a night for our group. You will need to call them direct at 828-479-6772 and ask for Sue. These rooms are under VFRD Kevin Bailey. If you want a suite or smoking room just ask Sue for one under my/our name to get a discount.
Having most people staying at one place will be much better and the Microtel takes care of motorcyclist well, providing MC only parking, soap and wash rags, towels and such to clean your bikes.
So find some one to share a room with and lets do this.
This is a DRY county, so you will have to buy/bring in your own refreshments.
Sorry for all the changes, but this was a necessary change.

Rats!! As it stands that Friday is booked on the vacation calendar at work. If things change between now and then I will be there. Does not look good right now.

Hope you guys have perfect weather and a great turnout!!

Dammit I am arriving at the GAP on 6th in the evening for a week of riding. AAAARRGGGHHHH!! Maybe I can get Friday off and head up early.

Only a few rooms left at the Microtel 1-828-479-6772 direct, ask for Sue.
Rooms went up to $74.95 a night for a double!

Fontana Village is completely booked May 5th-7th with Mini Coopers.

I should have looked into what groups were up there each weekend before choosing too!

I'm already having second thought's about May!!!

Dude,
My wife called around and almost everyone was booked solid. I called the Microtel and they only had 2 rooms available. One was a smoking room, the other a Jacuzzi room. I took the Jacuzzi room and reserved it, but not before I made sure I could cancel. I had her look at the weekend before, and she said there was a lot of availability for the 28th-29th. Looks like we might have to go back a week to me.

Don't worry Kev, I only get that room if my girlfriend is with me! I never have and never will consider sharing the jacuzzi room (one bed) with any guy!!!! <_<

Anyone else tried to get a reservations anywhere ?

One week is not going to make a bit of difference weather wise. Are you seriously considering going back to April date or is just find a room somewhere?

Yes, if most places are full for this week in May like it looks already I would consider a date change a must. It would be a major pain to have no Meet HQ and people staying in 20 different towns.
Both the Microtel and Fontana Village have over 20 rooms available for the previous week as of today!
Like you said one week won't make any difference weather wise other than the luck or unlucky passing of a storm/weather front !

It can get pretty cold up there at night around that time. I'm a comfort kinda person when it comes to sleeping temps, and it would be outside my comfort zone. Just thought I would toss that out there...

I did try Two Wheel Inn. They are booked solid both weekends so that doesn't help any.
#16
Has anyone checked with Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge in Stecoah? Between their lodge, cabins and bunkhouse they have approx. 20 rooms plus, plenty of room for camping and RV's.

They may already be booked but if not, they could possibly handle the entire group?

Their phone number is: 828-479-3864

I assuming Microtel (full-upalready) will be the HQ? Iron Hose looks to be a fair piece out. Options dwindling though.

There are several area camp grounds, but I don't camp so can't offer much. I did camp once (in a van) at Indian Creek campgound on the TN side of the Cherohala Skyway and also at a nice KOA in Tellico Plains, TN (360 @ 165) at the begining of the Cherohala on the TN side. The KOA has nice camp grounds, cabins, and good shower facilities. The cabins are one room with heat/ac and elec. that's about it, no bathroon.

The 05 VFR Revolt Rally was HQ'ed at the Iron Horse, but I didn't care for the set-up so myself and 3-4 other's went to the Microtel instead!
They had 6 bunks in a trailer reserved for me, no thanks. I didn't get to see any other rooms though.

T.W.O is a long way off from the Gap area (several hours), but has some great riding down there in N. GA.

i guess i'll wait and see where your HQ is going to be. tellico is a nice area.. or i'll just stay at TWO in Suches and plan on riding a bit to meet you all

When is a decision going to be made about kicking back to the previous weekend? Either weekend is fine with me, but it sounds like its going to be a PITA with the mini coopers or whatever

...... and, I've never seen the bunkhouse! I will admit that from the outside it apears it was imported from a disaster area! .... at least beds are inside and not under the stars!

Don't know if you had the chance to check out the Lodge facilities and the food - GREAT!

I've stayed in the cabins several times and they are nice. Check out their web site.

No big deal. It was just a suggestion for an alternative. As I said in my prior post ... they fill up early and probably don't have the space available to take care of all of us anyhow.

Suches area is nice, but the likely hood of you being able to meet up with us would be slim unless you wanted to leave at 5-6 am to come our way, unless we were headed to GA one day.
Unless it's cold or fogged in I like to have stands up by 9:30am or so, but I do like to head to GA at least once each trip if possible.

Hey Sam, I did have a group meal at the Lodge one night and it was good. I'm sure it would be an OK place, there's just nothing close around. I could have made a small fortune selling the beer I had with me.

PS I remember what else I didn't care for at the IH, their customer service SUCKED!!! It took me over a month to even get a reservation there. Never answered emails or phone calls, I just called the # you left tonight and got a recorded message that says "were closed for the 05 season, happy holidays" basically.
Doesn't look like they have improved much!

I usually stay in Cherokee when I'm in the area. I'm also sure the Tellico plains would have something left; or we could do it the weekend before...

One thing about Mini drivers - they typically have unreal expectations about a) thier cars and B) thier skills...

Hey, why is this in the 6gen forum? LOOK! I just turned 500! Yay me! HS, when do I get the Rolex? Or is it the pen set at 500, I forget...

Bailey, how many posts did it take to get the Lexus?
#29
Looks like the May weekend people are going to have to spread out all over to find rooms. Planing trips will be fun. I have to put in for the time off so I want to do it just once. I don't care which weekend just so we stick with something. I going to wait as well and hope it doesn't screw my chances on making the trip.
#30
full up already? Geez what about the April dates? Like I said before I am flexible. I just dont want to get snowed on in Kansas on the way back. If we are dead set on May I better get to dialing digits and soon! I will wait till tommorow to see whats up with the room situation.
