Quick, is it worth it?

There's a 1986 VFR500 here in town which I haven't actually really got a chance to look at closely but Monday afternoon I will. I drove by and then called on it tonight. I'm not sure what these SHOULD go for. For ease, let's assume it's in fair to pretty good condition and based on the following. I also know there is more than 100k miles on it, just don't remember the exact number.

Okay, I talked to the guy that owns it and he told me:
It has a new performance clutch, new brakes on both ends, newer chain and sprockets (1 th. down in front), needs a new rear tire, Carbon D&D pipe, stage 4 jet kit, rebuilt top end, but for some reason I don't remember the milage (think I forgot to ask,OPPS!), newer battery, and I think that's about all I know for now.

A buddy is looking for a first bike so he may buy it but I'm thinking about it if he doesn't buy it. The seller said he's been trying to sell it for a little over a year. He says $1600 or best offer. So due to having it for sale for so long I figure maybe if he sees $1000 cash or maybe as much as $1200 cash he'll take it but is it worth the $1600 ro even the 1200 or 1000? Just don't know what the 500 is going for and really don't kow much about them so I'm not sure. Going to go ride it on Monday afternoon and get some more details/possibly buy it so...

100k is alot on a 500cc even if it is a honda V4. I'd say that $1000 is fair but no higher than $1200 all provided that plastic and etc... is perfect or close to it. $0.02

In regard to the plastic all that I know so far is that it's all blue. I've never seen one all blue but I suppose it's possible, MAYBE?

Doubt that it is oem, but I could be wrong. If it is repainted, check for crash damage to the plastic, such as fiberglass behind the fairings, broken peg feelers, scraped mirrors, scraped bar ends, etc.....

There were no blue VF-500F's in the US. 84 and 85 were white with some red and blue accents (different accents for each year) and the 86 was red/white/blue. Your potential bike has been painted.

whenever i buy any vehicle i'm always a bit leary when they have a bunch of high performance parts. usually it means they have driven/ridden the shit out of it. plus it sounds like they've repainted the body work - which could just be for "beauty" but likely because things are damaged.

buyer beware. caveat emptor.
