April 2006 Cw It says, and I quote,
If motorcycles were judged solely on the awards they've won, the interceptor would be the greatest two-wheel device in the history of internal combustion.
What do you think of that?
It also says that they dropped the v-tech crossover to 6400 rpm for the 06 ( i'm sure you all know this) Does anyone know if that made a big difference?

I wonder if whatever they did to drop the transition point could be used to drop the ealier models? :idea3:

You should be able to just swap the black boxes, but after eading about what they did with the bulbs and sockets for the 06's, they probably also changed the wiring harness connectors so that you have to rewire them to make them work... :pissed:

Sorry no. This has all been hashed out before, but I'll repeat it. The vtec engagement is controlled by the ECU and the 2006 models have a difference ECU to do this. Unfortunately, you can't just switch out the ECUs because the 2006 model also has difference injectors (inherited from the CBR1000 I believe). Another hurdle is the price of an ECU, not cheap.

Now, you could probably lower the vtec engagement point using shift lights or something similar.

The 02-05 model vtec engages at 6800 rpm. The 06 at 6400. Wow big difference.

My thoughts exactly, i tried to locate the vtec solenoid the other day by looking ar the diagrams on here, but no avail. i am almost positive that it is an electrically operated solenoid so if anybody has insight as to the ecm pinouts or solenoid location i would be willing to try adding rpm activated switch, similar to those used in nitrous applications. wouldnt be that hard to do after i had a schematic in my hands. if anyone knows about this post up.

I owned a 2004 that Vtec abruptly kicked in at 7K - I now own an 06 that Vtec smoothly kicks in at 6.4K - I think it is an improvement, but I really do not care about the Vtec issue at all - the bike is still my favorite - although my previous 1997 VFR was a little more comfortable.. According to TWO (think that's where I read it) not only was the VTEC limit lowered to 6400, but how it changes over was also modified, something to the affect that instead of abruptly turning on the two values, theres some crossover, which I understood at the time, but have since forgotten the exact details. However, considering that there are only a couple of things that can be modified, ie. airflow, intake valve/s, exhaust value/s, and fuel input, I deduce that an exhaust value is first turned on, followed a couple hundred revs higher, by an intake value. But I could be completely wrong about this interpolation.

Yep...different ECU, connectors, and the same injectors as an 04-05 CBR1000RR.....

From the majority of 06 owners here that have responded to the Vtec transistion say it's not any better than the earlier models and I would personally not want to lower or change my vtec at all! Never has been and never will be an issue for me in almost 40k miles of rippen this beauty! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)

Would I ever add Vtec to new VFR, no, not as designed. Still not a negative in my book!
