So, let's think about a meeting in Daytona, just for the heck of it. The point would be....no point at all, just get Viffers together. It wouldn't be some epic ride like the recent TexMac meet, of course. But it would give a reason to go somewhere on our long, flat, straight roads. dry.gif
I'm thinking something like a central meeting place somewhere near Main Street and A1A. Time it for late morning or so. Eat lunch close by...BBQ or burger joints (not fast food). Go look at Harleys at that giant new dealership (they ARE pretty, if unrideable!) or go to the Helmet Shop. Or just hang near the beach and watch tourists. Plan to break up in late afternoon/dusk, and everyone heads their separate ways. The days are very long here in sunny Florida in late June.
I figger the local groups in Tampa, Lauderdale, Orlando, Jacksonville would sorta organize and group ride.

June 24/25 is okay, but kinda soon for those of you who have responsibilities, unlike myself.
July 1st is the Firecracker 400, and Daytona will be insane...not good. Well, good, but not for us.
July 8/9 is okay, but lots of you might have vacation plans for that week, and it's kinda far away. And REALLY hot.
Okay, let's say Sunday, June 25th, meet in Daytona. Anyone interested?? Anyone? Bueller? schla15.gif
Since I somewhat instigated this biggrin.gif I will definitely attend. I have to be in Herndon VA the week prior but as long as the wife knows in advance shes good with it. That date works out fine for me. I can start scouting some places to eat/meet as well.
That saturday wouldn't be bad either, just giving some options... But I'm in!

I can probably make it, how far is the ride from Tampa to Daytona, and how many turns are there in between again?
To tell the truth I have just about quit riding except for transportation (have no car). Hopefully I will be moving soon to somewhere with turns soon.

I believe he said that there are absolutely no turns the whole entire trip. goofy.gif But at least it can be a high-speed run across the flatlands!

Oyama won't have much of a ride out of this....he lives like RIGHT THERE....blocks from Main/A1A, as I recall. We can appoint him Master of Ceremonies and Strategic Planning Coordinator, etc. since he already has that damn Grand Boohbah Hat. tongue.gif

That depends on how creative you are with route planning, I mean there is no Deal's Gap in between but there are some nice fun roads to be had I have been told.
I think I am going to make it to this so west coast folks lets get together a ride out that way.
There is a nice loop through Tomoka State Park just north of Ormond. It's short, but there are a few nice turns through there. Look for Highbridge road fing02.gif
Beach Street (along the west side of the Halifax River) in Daytona/Holly Hill/Ormond and into the "Loop" can be well patrolled and the Limits change quite a bit, so watch it there.
Also route 13 in St. Johns county along the St John's River is nice and then ride towards the coastline and check out St. Augustine.
Fun road wheel.gif in Daytona, but short, is the one between the airport and the Speedway. It runs along the back side of the Long Straightaway of the Speedway, so you can run a flyby directly next to the track.
Tomoka Farms road in Daytona is straight, but ok
A-1-A or the beach down south from Daytona to Ponce Inlet and the Ponce Inlet lighthouse.
If you want a good Mahi Mahi or burger, check out the "Ocean Deck" in Daytona (on the beach just south of the pier) or on Main Street there is "The Wreck" which overlooks the Halifax river or "Caribean Jacks" which is also on the Halifax or the "Tomoka Grill" overlooking the Tomoka River in Ormond off US-1. BBQ joints include Hog Heaven on A-1-A near the Ocean Center and Main Street (across from the Hilton), Sonny's Bar-B-Q (mult locations), Ker's Winghouse (near the Speedway). You should also check out the Ocean Walk.
I'm homesick typing about it. I'll be down in Florida splitting time between Daytona and Tampa area around July 3-8th visiting family and friends... who knows, maybe even a little longer.

Yeah, 13 along the river is a nice ride. No real tight turns, but some good high speed sweepers. HDs love it....makes them really feel like they're HANDLING!! tongue.gif

I'll find some roads from here to there, Me and a buddy did it before, road all the way to Daytona without hitting the interstate and found some cool roads, some sweepers, some with nice scenery and some you can get out and open it up on goofy.gif
Haha... reading the part someone posted about going through Holly Hill... thats a horrible horrible cop infested area. I've been pulled over the past 3 times I've been through there. I now take the long routes the bypass that place when I can. I'll be back in Daytona July 1 - July 9 on vacation visiting family as I search for a place in my soon to be new home, Orlando, when I move in October. If you all meet up during the time i'm there I would love to join up. As I ride down, I get to detour and ride Dea'ls Gap once to warm my tires up to the nice curves in FL. =) Hope to see you all if your around that week. By the way. As if you probably havevn't ridden it before, A1A North from Ormond to St. Augustine is beautiful area. About 1 1/2 hour ride 1 way from Daytona to there. There's actually some nice farmland area on the West side of I-95 in Daytona also. As if I don't get to see enough farm here in Kentucky, it's still nice scenory. I'm from Daytona originally by the way. so I know the area pretty well. I'll keep an eye on post to see progress. Ride safe.

The Loop is a great ride... as is the road behind the airport.
