Just a word of warning to those that may be hitting the popular Hwy 67 - The recent heavy rains that have washed away several homes in the Hayman burn area have also washed out some areas on Hwy 67 between Westcreek and Deckers. The state says Hwy 67 will remain closed for at least three days for road repairs, weather permitting. After the repairs, I'm sure there will be crud on the road in those areas and a lot of other places where water washed sand and gravel over the road surface. Pay attention local guys! We are not used to having to worry about too much debris around here - plus there really isn't a short cut to anywhere else once you get that far up 67. Be safe! Edit/Update: 5pm - 9news says four miles affected and CDOT says several WEEKS for needed repairs.
CDOT is reporting THREE MONTHS for repairs on hwy 67 washed out in 15 places from Westcreek to Deckers, must be a lot of pavement gone. The Hayman strikes again! one resident was quoted in the Springs Gazette "if it's not fire its flooding"! Poor bastid! I was riding the XR in that exact spot last week before the big rain hit and it was already getting washed out along the creek bed, you could see it was up to the pavement a week ago. Jebus thats one of my favorite spots to ride too! 3 summers in a row now that road has been closed for somthing or other, fire, flood, criminal hunt, you name it whats next King Kong? Tragic story for the folks around Westcreek!
Hwy 115 a box culvert 15 foot span completely washed away leaving a gap just as long and deep, I would think sombody could die if they missed seeing that! You can still make it to Florence but you have to either come up from Pueblo on 120 the back way or head west on hwy 50 at the light on hwy 67. Three days they say to repair that.
