Colorado Road Advice

Hello all,

I'll be taking a solo ride out to Colorado in early September from San Jose, Ca and need some advice on my trip plan.

Day one will be from the southbay to Ely Nevada so no worries there.

Day two I'll be touring southern Utah and plan to make it to Blanding Utah for my second night.

Day three is where I need a little help.

From Blanding, I'll be heading north on 191 to Monticello then head east on 666/491. Here is where I need help.

I was thinking of taking 141 north then take 90 to Montrose........My map indicates that 90 isn't paved so if anyone knows anything about 90 in Colorado from Naturita to Montrose please tell.

If it's not paved, I'd rather take 145 to 62 then 550 thru Montrose.

Another route I was considering was just going all the way down to Durango and then taking the 550 north to Montrose. I've read that it's a nice ride but would like some opinions. Also how much longer will it take going this route verus the 141 to Montrose.

My utlimate destination will be Longmont which I plan to make sometime on the third night.

Last I noted, it wasn't paved. Traverses rocky, sage, canyon country.

Your 145-62-550 alternative above is a great and scenic one and a good route from 141 to Montrose.

Your Durango and 550 north to Montrose is one of the classic motorcycle rides in the country. The San Juan Skyway or Million Dollar Highway. If you have the time, I would experience this.

How is the traffic on 550 between Durango and Montrose the week after labor day compared to the 145-62-550 route?

On my way back to Cali I took your Black Canyon and it was amazing!
Also rode the 550 from Montrose to Durango..........Super Amazing!
