Tires - Group Buy

One of the active members of the OntVFR list is attempting to put together a group buy for tires (properly tyres, guv').

At this point he is gauging interest to see how large a buy would be warranted. This is a part of his note to OntVFR. Please note that all of the prices are in Canadian dollars.

There are likely going to be large increases in tire prices next year due to increasing costs in raw materials for tire production. (al least that is the line my rep is telling me)

Here's what I'm thinking of doing - have a sale before 2007 prices come out.

- minimum 3 tire purchase per order - no maximum
- 33% off retail price
- Bridgestone, Michelin, Dunlop and Kenda tires that are handled by Motovan. Link to Motovan's Website
- Tires can be stored at Platinum Powersports for no charge to be installed at a later date or shipped to your door for an additional fee.

Installation is only $17.50 per wheel - which includes electronic balancing.

For example:

BT020 for the 98-present VFR
120/70-17 - retail $199.99 - sale $133.99
180/55-17 - retail $254.99 - sale $170.84
total of $304.83 before taxes!!!!

or

Pilot Power tires for a 600 cc bike (or VFR)
120/70-17 $220.99 - sale $148.06
180/55-17 - 291.99 - sale $195.63
total of $343.69 before taxes

I will need a significant number of sales in order for this to work for me, so I am currently gauging interest.

I have no affiliation with this fellow - other than I have bought tires and sundries from him a couple of times before. So, I'm a satisfied customer. I have no financial interest in the success of this venture - other than I would get in on the group buy.

I even think ridenow.com is having a sale on POwers. Ends up being around $230 for the set from ridenow..

I picked up a set at the january bike show in T.O 300 bucks taxes in for a set of metz z'6's. If you can wait till winter ( sorry it is coming) there are some smokin great deals there FYI. Still alot of riding time yet though so if your down to your cords( Ken) you might not want to wait til the show (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/beer.gif)

I think a group buy on tires would be a waste of time in most cases! And a major pain and cost shipping them within the group.
Parts Unlimited is the Dist. for most brands Here in the US and I see what my supplier pays(his cost) and he adds $10 to each tire. Most internet suppliers can get within a few dollars of that, especially with free shipping. I don't see any advantage unless your buying retail from your Honda Dealer now. Southwest Moto tire has free shipping on 2 or more tires and prices very close to cost!
