:bliss: REALITY :bliss:

Maybe his throttle was stuck???

And some people really think they might be looking out for little old us on our bikes?

I treat all other traffic on the road like wild animals, and take it upon myself to keep away from them and their wild actions. This guy just proves that point to me all the more that it's the only way to deal with them.

I think that shows me a few points that stand out.
1st, is how quick things can happen when "glancing" away from my direction of traval.
2nd, when seeing a LEO/Emergency vehicle/etc., slow the crap down.
3rd, but not the least, I've noticed the time spent looking for LEO's,could be time better spent watching what needs to be looked at. Not to forget "rubbernecking".
#9
was he driving a a runaway toyota? :goofy:

What is that big grayed-out area just behind the car? That can't be a rock -looks like they fuzzed something out of the video almost. At the last 2 seconds they show the close-up again of the car and it's not there anymore.

What could they have fuzzed out, and why? -Or am I just seeing things?

LOL @ the man-boobies. I totally missed that part -looking at the fuzzy thing instead. Funny what some people notice. I guess I'm not very interested in man-boobies ;)

( Moderator note - This is a local concern for the south forum, not an 'other' item check your posts in the correct place please.)

The Dragon? Who cares anymore its becomming a foot note in motorcycle mecca land its not even the best road in the area, the Cherehola takes the prize for that IMHO! Too much hassle with all the cops, strangled up with too much traffic, now rock slides? I hope it dies down and just becomes a good road instead of this rediculous circus its become. Shoot the road into Franklin is just as good from the north! Way too many good roads around there to waste time on that road, or get a ticket for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or as it is now the wrong place all the time!

LOL. Thus, more reason to hit the lesser known roads. Loved 28 more. Sure if you're one of the folk who live down there, there are WAY better roads.

Oh, I see now. It's like a big belly plastic part. It just looked so gray and fuzzy and out of place. But that makes perfect sense! Big plastic underbody sheet had zero chance against epic rock contact!

Boob guy is freaky now that I see them. Kinda perky ;)

Truer words have never been typed here. There are some great roads east and north of Franklin that nobody seems to go on. North Georgia turns me off too as the Po Po are omnipresent (how'd ya like that word?) and now, Georgia has the SuperSpeeder tax, I mean law. But, I know a few rather "vacant" roads there too... :wheel: . :fing02:

I'll beat he wasn’t doing 30 mph. Yeah I hate that DRAGON too, it requires I a lot skill, a lot of patience, AND MOST OF ALL A BRAIN TO KNOW WHEN TO RIDE AND WHEN TO GLIDE.

I prefer to ride 129 more than any other road because I know it like the back of my hand. I don't know other roads as well. I'm safer riding what I know. I always hear about huge crowds of people and tons of cops but rarely see either. I don't think I've been stuck behind anything this year. I think I've seen 1 cop actually on the dragon all year, a Trooper that I had a nice conversation with, but yeah it's pretty bad up there so everyone should probably stay away. Hope they get the slide cleaned up quickly though, 3 hour ride to get around it.

I know a lot of you guys don't like the dragon, but I've spent a lot of time in the area, and I love spending an afernoon on the dragon. I always go during the week, so maybe thats why I just don't see the crowds that everyone always talks about. I love riding the road, talking to other bikers of all kinds, the whole thing just keeps a grin on my face all week. I always meet great people, and never want to leave...I ride all of the other roads that I can, and love them too, just always enjoy 129.

I did 4,000 miles just on the Dragon last year. I got one ticket, I was there at a time than I knew better than to be there. If you play it smart though you won't get a ticket. Needless to say I love that place!

I'm with you Gap Trash. I ride the gap every week. Go at the right time and it is not a problem.

This is a bit of a threadjack but, I70 through Glenwood Springs, CO had a rockslide last week. Check out this picture.

He's probably going to sue Toyota over this. (yes I am smart enough to realize his car is a lincoln, but this is America, what does that have to do with his ability to instigate a frivolous lawsuit:-)

Latest word at the Gap is that they are putting up barricades in the morning right by the store. THE GAP IS CLOSED!!! A friend posted on another forum today that the word around the store was 14-16 weeks until the Gap is reopened. I'm devastated, not in a good mood tonight at all.
#32
I'll let you know today.
#33
Talked to a local friend last night. The closure is a result of a lack of ambulatory service. Graham Co, NC has offered it's service to cover the Tennessee side. If they can make a deal then the road will not be barricaded. Latest as of this morning is that there is no blockage yet.

Word is the governor has decided to close down the Gap because there is no ambulance service. Graham County, NC offered to cover it but Gov Bredesen is refusing. If you had any plans to visit this summer please send the Governor an E-mail or call him, here is his contact info.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not. Please cite your source. A lot of people are seriously affected by this incident (the people that make their living off the seasonal business around the gap) and spreading baseless speculation / rumor is really a disservice to the community here. Passing off false "good news" doesn't help.

ACCORDING TO THESE FOLKS AND SINCE I STARTED THE TOPIC.

MORE SPECIFIC
March 20, 2010: The rock slide on US 129 is located between the Dragon and Happy Valley Road/Foothills Parkway. US 129 has been closed at the TN/NC State Line by Tennessee making the Dragon itself inaccessable. There are mixed reports from TDOT on reopening. One says reopen will be March 26, the other gives no date. The only alternatives are the Cherohala Skyway US 441 through the Great Smoky Mountains. There are many great roads in North Carolina. Use this opportunity to run the Moonshiner28. Watch for weather updates on the Cherohala.

What is even better is if you watch the guy driving up into the rocks after he hits the brakes he puts it into reverse right as he hits the very beginning of the rocks. If you are on the brakes enough to lock up the tires putting it into reverse is not going to do anything since the tires can't spin anyways. Not that you stop any faster putting it into reverse vs locking it up and sliding anyways.

I think the back-up lights came on as the transmission and enging "moved" a little bit from where it used to be before the rocks moved it off of the mounts in front of the car (and the wheels, and the suspension arms. When the transmission moves the linkage tightens up and that pulls the lever on the tranny telling it to shift gears. The transmission might have put the car in "reverse" at the moment but that's only because it didn't know it was dead yet.

Notice the little back plastic cover that got ripped out from under the car? After hitting those rocks the transaxle probably didn't offer any more resistance to moving than that plastic belly pan did...

Hahaha!
