Not trying to stick up for Ma Honda as most of us that have owned VFR's for a while now have been through this for the last few years...........i.e. being disappointed that there's nothing new VFR on the VFR front.
But, to say that Honda hasn't done anything in the sport bike world for years is not very accurate.
Also, how can you make a comment that the "new 600RR gets stomped by the old Gixxer"............you don't even have any real info yet. Even if you did, going by the numbers doesn't tell the real world story anyway.
I doubt very much that the new 600RR will get stomped by the Gixxer.........actually in most of the "real world" reviews the unchanged '06 600RR, it has been regarded as being the easiest bike to go fast on etc. over even the new Gixxer and R6.

Honda has lost the drive. Their are no more CB750's, CBX's, VF750's, VF1000R's, Hurricanes, Blackbirds, etc. Honda is no longer performance first, in street anyway. They now play catch up as they no longer innovate they duplicate. Again this is my opinion, but the results speak for themselves. I'd bet a good nickel that the new 600RR, has the same or less horsepower than the 06 GSXR. The updated 1000RR wasn't even close in spec sheet racing and again was stomped by older bikes. Just very disappointing for a guy that idolized the VF750 and VF1000R and bought a Hurricane when it was new. sad.gif
Are they still the best fit and finish. Yep but who cares when there is no innovation left.

I'd tend to likely agree. the "new" 2006 cbr1000rr gained HP, loss weight, and yet still got romped by the old gsxr 1000 in power delivery, suspension and handling

Again, doesn't mean they're not good bikes just that in the 1K bikes....Suzuki's still got everyone beat in '06.

actually....in august's cycle world magazine, the world masterbike shootout rated the ZX-10 the worlds best 1000, followed by the MV1000, then the GSXR. honda down the list. a Aprilia RSV won the over all
I'm quite happy with my 2002 and could really care less if they came out with something new. Sure it would be nice to see, but I wouldn't change just because there was something newer. Just my $.02
I am disappointed that we did not get a new VFR, but am very happy with mine. Another plus is that I will not be buying a new bike this year.....more money in my pocket.
What I really want is a better VFR, and no one has built it yet in my opinion. So I will wait another year.
Why would Honda have made those minor changes last year if they were going to come out with a whole new bike this year? They don't sell enough VFR's every year to warrant a new model as often as the 600rr's and other squidly bikes because they won't see the same return on their R & D dollars (or yen). And one of my favorite sayings is " If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it." I love my 2003 Silver Bullet (six-gen haters are missing out). If Honda made a new bike that had some of the mods (higher handle bars, new seat, more power, etc.) that all of us want, where would the fun be on working on our bikes? And most of us enjoy being the only VFR we see when we go riding. Having all those people break their necks trying to sneek-ap-peek and ask what kind of european superbike it is. If they created a bike that looks as good as ours and competed with busa's head up our trusty steeds would be all over the road.
On the one hand...disappointing to not see them break new ground.
On the other...no desire to change to latest and greatest - I'm perfectly content with my 2004. :-D
Well, they are breaking new ground, just in a different field. Just saves me the pain and struggle of trying to convince my wife why I "need" a new VFR. Long live my 2001...

I remember when Honda brought out the cbr600/ hurricane . I never thought it would have done so well considering most riders rode 750-1000 class. The VFR has been put in a class of its own and without true competition it will lose its appeal to riders. Honda needs to recieve some EMAIL from us raving V4 fans who are very dissapointed ....
Dear HONDA, get off your butt and Give us V4/ INTERCEPTOR fans a new VFR .WE dont care about what the squids want ( oh look at my neew 118hp , 600RR, ) 18yr old kid wear $150 sunglasses, shorts , tank top, sandals...
The loyal VFR fans are slowly fading away to yamaha,suzuki,kawasaki, reetch harley....
while it would have been nice to see them come out with a new VFR, I have to disagree with a lot of people here. Seems as if everyone believes all of the trade rags on who has the best sport bike out there. All of the repli racers are very good bikes and which one to buy comes down to which one you like the looks of best and who makes the most reliable bike. Everyone claims that the gixxer stomps ass, but in reality it only stomps ass in ama superbike. And even then its only stomping ass in the Yosh flavor. Duhamel and Zemke finish ahead of just about every other Suzuki team out there besides the Yosh riders. In Supersport, Superstock, and Formula extreme, it is not a Suzuki blowout. If anything the Yami's have an edge in those classes.
All of these bikes perform very close no matter who is riding them. The Honda RR's get updated just about as often as the Yami, Kawi, and Zuki's. The VFR is such a good bike it really doesn't have any competition to drive major changes. I'm not really surprised that there isn't a major update to it, seems like most of the non "RR" bikes don't get updated that often.
Go ahead and buy a suzuki or zx10. When you are out in the middle of nowhere and it breaks down you will remember the good ole day's of Honda reliability.
I personally think the 1000rr is a fantastic bike. I'll probably be owning one here in a few months. (as a second bike to my VFR !)
