Hello all, I thought I would go ahead and get the ball rolling on the october charlotte area vfr ride. Fifedog I dont want to step on any toes, I just want to get this out early so maybe more can attend.
Charlotte area vfr meet. Saturday october 14th, plan to meet at the petro express off of i-85 exit 17 in gastonia at 9 a.m.. Coming from charlotte take the exit and make a left at the light. The petro express will be immediately on the right. There are two petro express'es on the same corner. The one you want is on the north bound side. I believe the overhang says citgo, but all other signs say petro express. The one across the streeet doesnt say citgo on the overhang at the pumps. You cant go wrong look for all the vfr's. With the days getting shorter we need to be pegs up at no later than 9:30. Meeting in gastonia is good because the twisties are only 30 miles away. I will probably be there before 9 a.m.
We will take a new route that I have only been on once. It is a roads less traveled route, on many backroads in the mountains. It will be the time of year for leaf lookers so we will try to avoid them. I hope this is enough warning that we can have a good turn out. Hope to see you there. wheel.gif
Sorry guys I am going to have to move the ride up a week. The ride will be on sat. october 14.
Heck yeah, we all care. It's those pesky weddings, funerals, graduations, relatives in the hospital, working on week-ends trying to put food on the table, wife planning week-end away for wild sex, broken bones, the list goes on and on. goofy.gif
I hope to get to go soon with you guys. Should be fun. beer.gif
In spite the fact it looks like Gary is coming, I'm in. Doug do you have the list to PM everyone or does Brian have it? The old post with everyone on it is gone.
If I get my bike up and running by then I would like to attend. If I do not get the bike up and running by then I may be on a three state killing spree....... goofy.gif I havn't been to the Charlotte area yet on my bike and not since I was a kid. Would be a great get away for me. Post more details.

Fifedog has the list. I sent him a pm, but no response.
The route will consist mainly of backroads. I am doing the route tomorrow to better familiarize myself and mark all the waypoints on the gps. I will post more on the route later. This will be a relaxed pace ride on most of the trip. The route takes us down some serious backwoods mountain roads. Some spots are not in perfect shape. I am sure all will enjoy. Just dont expect a super speedway like 181, although we may come down it on our way home. wheel.gif

My wife, twin daughters and mother all have a birthday that weekend blink.gif Could be hard to attend...but you never know wink.gif
I rode the route today. I now have it marked on my gps and am ready to go. It was about 370 miles from my house and back. It is 40 miles from my house to the meet spot. I only had two pass two cars today and they were on the same road. I saw no other cars or bikes, only one tractor. I have to say again these are serious mtn. roads and not for the faint of heart. There is gravel and sand in a few turns. You will have to be on your toes the whole time. If you are you should have no problem. They are fabulous little mtn. roads.
The list of roads. About 70% of the route will be new to some of you. We will be in the same area as usual. The route is basically like a figure eight.
old18 126 dellingers loop sounth mtn inst rd. lake james road takes us around lake james. We could stop here for a moment and smell the roses. lentz road no name road 221 toms creek road 80 going up from bottom. double island road 197n 226 LOafers glory, lunch at bonnie and clydes diner 80 top part 19e north crabtree road 226 "G" around little switz BRP 181 old 18 or 18 back to gastonia.
I say make it in sunday! If i can go I would have to come from winston salem. I work on saturday untill 6pm. I look forward to the day I can ride with a group of VFr's
Hey this is Brian here with the 04 Asphalt black VFR from Lenoir you can count me in as a definate. Need to know where I can meet with the group in Morganton? I road the top part of 80 monday and thought it was better than the Dragon ,well closer anyway, then I seen it on your route for the ride! I don't know if I can wait till Oct 21 .
I'm back...I was in the bathroom...man that was a rough one!
Well, thank you soichiro (Doug) for getting the ball rolling. The route sounds great. You'll have to make sure to point out the danger spots to those that have not ridden thru that area.
According to my travel plans, it looks like I will be in Germany for work until October 23rd (Monday), so ride on fellas. I hope to rent a BMW or maybe a motorcycle of some sort while I'm there.
Doug, I will send you a PM with a list of all the Charlotte Area VFR Riders for you to give notice.
VFR666, Sep 30 2006, 08:45 PM i will probably be free on saturday. I can't wait to ride with you guys!
Outstanding. Always a good thing to see new VFRD faces on these trips. What about the rest of you guys on the list? Gary stinks a litlle but we make him ride in the back. Come on out.
Hey Soichiro don't have a clue how to add my name to the Charlotte group riders. Also like to know how to get one of those cool Fall Dragon Ride logos on my page like all of you guys. Did I mention my computer skills is a 2 on the 10 scale.
FifeDog, Oct 1 2006, 03:27 PM You are already part of the family. I added you a while back. Consider yourself officially welcomed!
Awww I thought I was an only child thanks big brother. Just a little hummor there but seriously you and the VFRD goupe are the best friends anyone could ever have. I've been riding some of the road on the charlotte route so everyone does'nt have to wait for me to catch up at the turns. I'm thinking since I live so close to the route haveing my buddie drive my truck while I sit in the back with a gas powered leaf blower and get rid of bad gravel in all the corners so everyone can have a safe clean ride because what are friends for if not to help each other.
Hey guys due to a family circumstance I have to move the ride up a week. The ride will now be on saturday the 14th of october. Sorry for the inconvience and I hope all can still make it. Thanks.
Might be a good idea to send out a PM to everyone on the list. As of now, that weekend looks good for me.
I also would not be opposed to chopping off about 70 miles of the route. I'll add two hours to the ride just getting to and from Gastonia. Plus, I'm a big wuss and just like bellyaching, especially after an early morning Cracker Barrel breakfast. 491.gif

Its the same here, I live in cocncord and it is 55 miles to the meet spot for me. There is no chance of cutting off 70 miles, the route is not that long. I am working on the PM's.
I'm in ...!Its been a while since I have seen you fellas. Looks like everyone is still in one piece. I've been crazy busy.. Once again the family is dealing with a member in the Hospitol... What a crazy year. Heart attacks, CHF, B Cancer, O cancer etc etc etc. If all is stable I sure hope to make it.... Later BP
dang it is 104 miles from my house to the meet spot. I noticed someone said it was 30 miles from the meet spot to the twisties is that in my direction?
