I have been reading a steady series of posts concerning what we all would like to see the future of the VFR look like. Let me pose this question to all that are interested in playin the "The VFR is Right"
The rules are as follows, you can only choose one and only one door to open, therefore only one prize.
Door #1 - 1000 cc of displacement
Door #2 - 75 #s of weight reduction
Door #3 - 50 more of horsepower
Door #4 - 40 more foot pounds of torque
The music is playing and the clock is ticking
And why isn't it multi-selection?
Yes, I'm greedy.
I don't really care, although easier wheeeeeeeelieeeeeees would be nice.
I went for the weight reduction.
It's a much heavier bike than I'm used to, and I seriously doubt I'd be able to pick it up by myself if I ever dropped it!!
The horsepower and torque were tempting too...
wheel.gif front wheel already comes up easily enough for me...
50 more ponies. Keep it user friendly. By the by,....It wouldn't be unheard of for Honda to do a 2,000cc @ 125 hp. LOL.
10-15 more horsies, 50lbs lighter, fully-adjustable suspension. Of course if I layed off the chow, I could probably drop 50lbs off the payload of my current ride. sad.gif
50 more HP for me. then better suspension...then less weight
Had to go with weight reduction. I don't care what displacement it is, just care about the seat of the pants feel. It's already got enough HP and torque for me to have fun with and I don't have to worry about grabbing too much throttle and spinning up the rear. Drop the weight a bit to make it a little more flickable.
It'll be interesting to see how one's geography affects how they vote in this poll.
I say less weight. The power is plenty for what any of us do except maybe some track days. I think its always great to reduce weight is to increase the flickability by improving the effect of the suspension, increasing the relative power and making it more wheelie prone. And for those of us of the feminine persuasion it would be easier to pick up.
And why isn't it multi-selection?
Because when Bob Barker asks which door you want he does'nt say you can have more than one.

And by the way I choose the same door a you.
I went with the torque, however I think the horsepower would be nice too. I think that the torque would be pretty sweet because it would make the front end lift easier, and would keep the off the line speeds up.

You just need to learn the technique, you could pick up a Gold Wing, Grrrl. biggrin.gif
I voted 1000cc, but less weight is a very close second.
HP and Torque should be included with the extra ccs, I trust. wheel.gif

but what if your wrong????? what if it was a 1000cc engine with 50 hp and 24ft lb of torque? blink.gif

I went for the added HP...

Oh, but they did! Actually, a 2,200cc. It was the 1990 Honda Accord EX. But I4's are so blah....
I went for the 50 more ponies, because let's face it, that's a skewed poll....If I could increase HP by 50%!!!! Hell, much better return than losing a little bit of weight. I weigh 142 so I'm not weighing my baby down much anyway.
I went for weight, then you naturally end up with a better power/weight ratio. Less weight to lug around is always a good thing.

With 75lbs weight loss the horse power the VFR already has will move it down the road easier and probably faster and make the great handling machine even better.
I too went with the weight reduction. Good stuff. 100hp is about where I want it, if it's weight is reduced 75 lbs. Of course, I still have about 15lbs more to lose.

Is there a possibility of a Playboy playmate being behind one of those doors?

Then I'd be a convert to another brand, because at that point, Hond is completely irrelevant int he Motorcycle World.

Sure don't need 50 hp or 40 lbs of torque. A 75 lb weight loss would feel & act like gaining 10 hp, so that's pretty nice right there.
I use my VFR as a Sport bike and it will run with just about anything out there in the twisties and a 75 lb weight reduction would help a bunch in the left/right flickability of the bike.
I would like to see 20 lbs of torque increase, but really the only reason the VFR needs more power would be to be able to do better/ longer power wheelies! wheel.gif Outside that it has plenty of power! beer.gif
+1.gif
75 pounds feels like 10hp, plus handling improvements. It's the only thing that would make me trade up.
Yup i voted for the 75 lbs reduction as well for reasons stated by br and spot beer.gif
Bob Barker is "The price is right." WIth the gorgeous "assistants".
Monty Hall is - "Lets make a deal". With the bad polyester plaid clothing.
Right then, seeing as I can likely lose 50 lbs on my own, I'll be greedy and take the weight loss of 75lbs of bike. Plenty of power for me, but a lighter bike (and a lighter me) would be incredible.
No more waffer thin chocolate mints for me, without the bucket of course..... ooops - sorry - Monty Hall got me thinking of Monty Python..... laugh.gif
not another monty python thread!
I voted for weight. ~ 6lbs. = 1HP so 75lbs divided by 6 = 12.5 HP. beer.gif
I vote for next generation FI and mapping, fully adjustable suspension front and rear with external preload adjustment.
Everything else is spot on for me.
The VFR is heavy because of it's engine and swingarm design (lots more metal required), and the rear subframe is rather beefy to handle luggage and pillions. So, where do you want the 75 Lb weight-reduction to come from (I can hear the can of worms go *pop*)? What do you want to lose? Personally, I think the VFR weighs about what it should for what it is/does, and feels stable as a result.
I voted for the torque increase (implies more displacement and HP to achieve the torque boost), but I want it broad and flat.

I wonder with the newer controlled-fill casting techniques if they would be able to achieve some significant weight loss from the frame and swingarm while maintaining strength/rigidity. Obviously couldn't lose 75lb but who knows.
The bike has enough power and torque now to keep me happy; the weight loss would be a real nice improvement and is what I would choose.
The same motor characteristics as my '99, a few pounds lost here and there, improved mass centralization, and more timeless styling(like my '99 biggrin.gif ) than the current VFR would make me consider trading up.
I voted 75 pounds less. I don't need 1000cc or 50 more hp (tho I wouldn't argue against having either). But 75 pounds less on the bike would allow it to be thrown into corners more easily, be a little lighter on its feet, etc. Plus, if it weighed in a 400 #s dry you might not really need the extra 200cc or 50 hp. Well, maybe 100cc and 25 hp!
I'd be happy with 450 lbs and 140 hp.
Brown81, Jan 3 2007, 11:59 PMI'd be happy with 450 lbs and 140 hp.
Maybe the
2008 Aprillia is what you're looking for (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/wheel.gif)
i will take whats behind door # 4
This was easy. More horsepower.
#5 vfr still around next year!
V4 Rosso, Jan 3 2007, 11:34 PMMaybe the 2008 Aprillia...
210+ horsey 1000cc V-4 (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/blink.gif) Kinda makes an extra 50hp for the VFR looks like spare change...
Door #1
Doing #1 would also help #3 and #4. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)
HispanicSlammer, Jan 3 2007, 08:17 PM#5 vfr still around next year!
And 75lbs lighter too.
# 5 smooth power delivery from idle!!
Seeing as that won't happen # 1
Aren't 1, 3 and 4 the same basically???
You missed "Modern Suspension" and "Better brake components"!
I would pick those items over any of those you listed
Beck
95 VFR
It doesn't need to lose 75 lbs...that would make it unstable in cross winds while "touring"*. Drop 25-30 lbs
It doesn't need to be a 1000cc bike...if you are compensating for size issues buy something bigger. Say a CBR-1000 or a 10Nine8 from the Italians
It doesn't need 50 more ponies...the current litre bikes are in the neighborhood of 150-160hp. Lets shoot for 20 more WITHOUT gimmicks
It doesn't need 40 more ft. lbs of torque....who am I kidding? I love torque but most everyone loves torque and tunes their bike for peak power instead.
I say we smash doors one through four and build a better door by improving everything, starting with suspension adjustability. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/idea3.gif)
* touring is defined as high speed dashes across the primary roads to quickly arrive at the destination of two lane secondary or tertiary roads with maximum opportunity for more smiles per mile. BR, trailering ain't touring. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/wink.gif)
Door #1: No. I don't think my insurance bill could take it.
Door #2: Yes, sort of. Instead of 75#'s lighter I would prefer 35 to 45 #'s lighter for reasons already mentioned in someone else's post.
Door #3: It would be nice, but I would be happy with 20hp more.
Door #4: I can always use more torque but do I need 40 more foot pounds?
If I could only have one, I would be happy with door #2. However, I agree with cornercarver and think a happy medium could be found in all those areas.
I'll just take all of'em (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/biggrin.gif)
V4 Rosso, Jan 3 2007, 03:34 PMMaybe the 2008 Aprillia is what you're looking for (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/wheel.gif)
Awesome bike. If I had that kind of cash, I wouldn't be "wishing"!!
Frankly, I'd be on the 1098 forum...... (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/rolleyes.gif)
I'll take 40 more foot pounds of tourqe... in the form of a 90 degree v-twin. this bike would be the best bike in the world if it had a v-twin (imho)... hands down. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/smile.gif)
I voted for door #2. I never quite understood why so many people would want 1000cc vfr. yeah I know the saying theres no replacement for displacment but with the advances in technology I would think a 800cc v4 would be able to get near 120hp and be able to reduce weight. To me a 1000cc just means higher insurace rates and lower gas mileage.
V4 Rosso, Jan 3 2007, 06:34 PMMaybe the 2008 Aprillia is what you're looking for (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/wheel.gif)
Just look at that plank they imply is a seat. Can't see my @ss on that for any length of time! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/goofy.gif)
Beck, Jan 4 2007, 03:10 AMYou missed "Modern Suspension" and "Better brake components"!

Agree that these are good ideas also. Maybe they should be added to the poll.
I voted for less weight as it will improve all other aspects of performance and might allow me to get the bike off the ground without the help of good samaratin(s) the next time I drop it! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/laugh.gif)
Torque, HP is a function of Torque any way. besides I don't use the 100 that I have now, so whats another 50 going to do me?
lighter weight might be nice, but then it would be more affected by wind.
Honestly guys, if you want 150hp, 400lbs and super tricky suspension and breaks go get a 1098. I know I wouldn't want to do ANY kind of touring on that thing!

95 VFR
How about a modernized version of the 5th gen with USD forks, radial unlinked brakes, no vtec, and power compatable with the Gixxer 750. We got a 781cc motor putting less power to the ground than the 600 class of the early 2000's. Honda has (had, do they still?) two versions of the CBR600 selling at the same time. One for sport/track and the other as some kind of commuter/tourer/all arounder. How about keeping the 6th gen as is for the ST crowd that wants abs and hard bags, and give the rest of us a V4 racebike.
geekBoy, Jan 8 2007, 08:57 AMHonestly guys, if you want 150hp, 400lbs and super tricky suspension and breaks go get a 1098. I know I wouldn't want to do ANY kind of touring on that thing!
(IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/+1.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/+1.gif) like i said... the only thing this bike needs (to be a better sport tourer) is more torque. plus it would be a little bit slimmer as well. i was riding a vtr before the vfr, and in all honesty... the vfr suspension is waaaaay better.
I chose 1000cc
(figure upping the HP/TQ comes with that)
I like the weight, makes the bike ride nice,
My first vote would be for better brakes and suspension....Since they aren't on the list I chose 1000cc.
I think I once heard someone describe torque and horsepower this way.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you push it....
I voted for the 75lbs.....then I realized you meant off the bike, not off me....damn.... (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/goofy.gif)
