Trace started this idea, but I'm beating him to the punch. beer.gif

The weather is beautiful, the rain has slowed down and the bluehairs are still out to get us.

Let's do a little Central FL meet one of these weekends at the Garlits Drag Racing Museum! It'll be good to get the Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa area hooligans together again for safety meetings, helmet shopping, tea and watercress sandwiches. fing02.gif

Here's the Address:
Garlits Drag Racing Museum
13700 SW 16th Ave
Ocala, FL 34473

I've already slapped together an entertaining route for the Tampa crew:
Start at SR 54 and Collier Parkway (near Land O Lakes).
North through Collier, Parkway Blvd, Ehren Cutoff.
SR 52 East to Bellamy Bros, Powell, Spring Lake.
(The Brooksville people can meet us at the Hess on SR 50)
Mondon Hill, Weatherly, Croom, Dempsey, Lake Lindsey, Istachatta
(Maybe stop at Shamrocks in Floral City)
Gobbler Rd, Moccasin Slough, Then I-75 to CR-484 to 16th Ave to finish it off

(99.0 miles)

So, How does the 21st or 22nd of October sound to all of ya?

When you come to SR44 go right.
In Wildwood the first road past the interstate is CR229 on the left.
Left on 466 which will turn into 475 as it veeres to the right.
Left on 484
Left on 16th

Interstates are for Harleys.

I am offended! You did not mentioned Daytona area. pissed.gif goofy.gif
If this is happening I will be there. I can take SR 40 all the way . wheel.gif

We'll be at Daytona for Biketoberfest on the 21st. We'd love to ride over from Daytona on the 22nd to meet everyone, on the way home to Tampa! Count us in if its the 22nd!

Uh....okay. Sounds like a good idea. I'll go. Yeah....I'll go. Garlits Museum, huh? Wow...yeah, I'd like that. I'll go. Good idea. idea3.gif

I'm up for a run to Biketober on Saturday maybe, but definitly a run to Ocala on Sunday 22nd. The Garlits Museum is way cool....but last time I was there was 1990 when I was in town for the Gatornationals in Gainsville (lived in DC at the time). Prolly added some cars in the ensuing 16 years.

Anybody now where a fella can get some decent watercress sandwiches and tea in Ocala? tongue.gif And maybe some excellent green tomato and ham zooooup, like at the TeliCafe? Mmmmmm.....soooooup.

I should be here so I'd love to go, may even be up to meeting some of you Jax guys on the 21'st for Biketoberfest. Maybe we should start a new thread to see who's going to Biketoberfest so we can all hook up.

I'll be at Jennings 10/21. I might be able to meet up on Sunday if it is not real early in the AM.

Until you mentioning it, I had never heard of watercress. Is this what you are referring?

That would be it. I have some acreage in West Virginia where it grows wild in a crystal clear stream that runs thru the valley. I once considered harvesting it and selling to deli's and produce markets and such. It's an intersting veggie. Kinda spicy, kinda parsley-ey.

Anyway, about the sandwich thing. A watercress or cucumber sandwich is the social opposite of a Philly Cheesesteak sammich. All high-class and dainty. Much like most VFR riders.... laugh.gif

I would be interested if you guys go on Saturday (Have to get back for work Sunday night) Quick thought - is the museum even open on Sunday? Up here by the bible belt, you're lucky to find anything open on Sunday. I don't know what its like in FL.
Anybody got a couch I can crash on Friday/Saturday night? goofy.gif

Good point.. As it turns out, they're open 364 days a year... Every day except Christmas Day!
It sounds like the 22nd is the best day for most people... Between Biketoberfest and Jennings on the 21st, we'd be down to a pretty small group if we were to shoot for Saturday. What's the chance of skipping work Sunday night? fing02.gif

I may be entertaining another couple (Harley) that Saturday from Lakeland, not confirmed yet, as they may decide to run in some Poker Run schla15.gif (What a surprise).

Our game plan is to ride up to Biketoberfest on Sat morning, and hang out until Noon or so, maybe have lunch at The Wreck to catch all the Main Street action, then split back to my palatial estates for cocktails, then over to Orlando HD who usually has some decent bands performing that evening. Haven't seen their schedule yet, but he had some cool older groups (Cheap Trick, Kansas, Little Feat, etc) at Bike Week, and it's free....

They usually crash at my place, so depending on when they leave, and/or if they even come, will determine if I can make this...

Oh, sure! Rub it in why don't you? tongue.gif
Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to make it...Gotta save vacation time for the holidays to see family, nobody really owes me any swap days that I can use for sunday night and I don't think I can call in sick seeing as how me and both of my roommates work at the same place and they would notice the conspicuous lack of me and bike all weekend. They're not the brightest people, but I'm sure they can put 2 and 2 together smile.gif Maybe next time. Have a good ride.

Since my better half (VFRtiger) is so insistent, we'll definitely be there. Oh darn, I guess that means I have to ride extra miles just to get back to Tampa from Daytona... Yippee!

If anyone else is going to head over from Daytona, let us know and we can hook up for the ride on Sunday!

#17
is a non VFR owner allowed to attend. I should have the replacement sickle by then. not sure what it will be yet, but it will be 1000 cc. thinking about an aprilia mille currently, but like the wind that could change
#18
mmm Mille...soon they will be available in a V-4 I've heard.

I will try to be there I don't see why fixer can't join us but its not my ride.

WHAT? A V4 Mille? Details please!

Sweet ride fixer!!

I heard a slight whisper on the winds about two months ago that Aprilla has V-4 road bike in the works and it could replace the Mille and unfortunately it may replace my VFR if it is true.

"Aprilia is to launch a 1000cc Superbike at the end of 2007 with the intention of re-entering the World Superbike Championship for 2008. Aprilia's top man, Leo Mercanti, recently confirmed the engine will be a V-4. Although no hard details are being released, expect the cylinder vee angle to be around 75 degrees with about 170 bhp for the road-going version that can be upped to 200 bhp when used on the race track. Aprilia hopes to keep the price for the road version to acceptable levels."

Of course! You can ride a bicycle for all I care (as long as you can keep up!) wheel.gif The more the merrier, so get yourself a pair of wheels and come on out!

Good call.. Having a time to meet would be good! goofy.gif

How about we all meet at the drag racing museum at noon and then figure out what to do for lunch?

Tampa crew, should we start off at 9:00? earlier, later?

If we are going to Floral City first I would say kickstands up from pinellas county no later than 8:30 we usually start out at the 7-11 on Mcmullen and 580.

Well yeah, 8:30 from McMullen and 580 would be good in order to reach the Tampa starting point (Marathon station @ SR54 and Collier) by 9:00... I'll meet ya there!

We've got 99 miles from the Marathon station to the museum, so 33mph average should give us time for a couple friendly stops before we all get overwhelmed with the walking, talking comedy factory from Jax! goofy.gif
