hey old school, thanks for the advice. this was one thing I had been putting off for a long time. Could you give me a slight product review.
(how long you had em, how bright are they, mouting tips, any issues?, etc.).....

Am I the only one that thinks the stock lights are great? I was amazed when I got my bike at the stock lights. I've done plenty of night riding across Utah/AZ/NV/CA/BC, etc...maybe I'm just easy please?
I work at a car dealership, and our parts dept. stopped selling them because they'd overheat the wiring.

Nope, I'm in the same camp. Of course the bike before this one was a single bulbed CBR. Did I mention the squid before me had a yellow bulb in it to blend with the fairing? (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/laugh.gif) Might as well have tried to use a birthday candle in there. So going from that to the VFR was literally like night and day! You know they're bright when cars coming the other way are flashing their brights for you to dim yours and they're already dimmed. Just a little flash of the brights and they soon realize their mistake.
The stock lights seem to be sufficent for normal riding but more light is always good. Most of the time when I am able to go to Deal's Gap I have to go up when I get off work and it is dark when I ride through, I am always wishing for more light in this situation. Forget riding it fast, I'm just trying to make it through alive. My best experience so far has been to go through with a car in front of me and a car behind. I know of people doing performance riding out there at night. Many have lights mounted to their forks, which
I have been thinking of doing. Anyway, how good are the Silverstar bulbs?

Because they run a slightly higher wattage I believe. I run them in my car and have had no problems except they don't last as long as stock bulbs.
If you really want to get a good light try HIDs. Brighter and use only 35W per light as opposed to the 55W per stock bulb. Yes, they cost more but last typically 3x longer and when it comes to visibility HIDs are hard to beat. JMHO. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/cool.gif)
