......when we'll be getting a new VFR? A few years back there were rumors abound about a new 5 cyl veefer based on the Moto GP bike lump. Has this just died? I'd love to change my bike but I wont do it until Honda bring out a radical new design that justifies me dropping some serious coin. Seriously, does ANYONE have a date when this may happen?

LOL, never. V5 and everything to do with motogp is experimental racing only, and will never be mass production friendly and can't have anything to do with production parts by the rules.

LOL, never. V5 and everything to do with motogp is experimental racing only, and will never be mass production friendly and can't have anything to do with production parts by the rules.
.....and yet the vfr continues to be a test bed for Hondas race tech and cutting edge systems. Single sided swing arm, underseat exhausts, VTEC, linked braking, the list goes on. This is what appeals to me about the veefer - its stacked with motorcycle hi-tec.

the actual rumour posted by VFRLee was that the VFR is to be discontinued. I hope that is not the case. many, including myself, Waited for a new model but it never arose. all we got was bold new paint.... so unfortunatley we went with different motorcycles.

sadly this is the thoughts honda doesnt hear. I went with an aprilia after waiting to see what 07 was bringing us, and it looks like another owner just did also. i thought hard about the hayabusa, but it hasnt changed in years either and soon as i bought one lo' and behold next year the new version would have come out

I'm going to sell my R1 and the vfr is starting to rack up the miles - I use it to commute 500 miles a week. I figured selling both and replacing with the 'Busa could fuel my need for long distance reliability and the occasional 'yahoo'! Its a shame cos I would have gladly replaced them with a new VFR that could do both.
Well, I ran the question by a Honda sales person this weekend at the Cycle World San Mateo motorcycle show and he said the VFR is not being canceled for '08, despite the rumors, and that was the 'official' word he just received. LOL! What a dumbass! You'd think that the word "Kawasaki" on the gas tank would've tipped off the seller as to who made the bike. Thanks, bluedragon, now I have even less respect for used car salesmen!
As for the VFR continued/discontinued...I've said before I would hate to see it go away, but I'm a few years away from replacing my VFR. By the time I'm ready hopefully Honda will have a terrific new version already in production. If not, there are plenty of terrific bikes out there. I checked out an Aprilia Tuono this weekend. Not the bike for me at this point, but I'm thinking BMW for the future.

That's exactly right. They could use the V5 in production, becasue they are using the 800's now. The MotoGP rules say that no current production bike can be used in MotoGP. The 1000's are not used and free to hit the street. That's why Ducati has blessed some with the $80k desmosedici.
Honda could put the v5 on the street and make a lot of money in the process. I doubt they can produce them to be affordable like the RC51. Charging $80k isn't honda's usual way of operating. Honda would need to figure a few things out. The rc211V5 needs to be rebuilt by Honda frequently (like every 3000 miles or something).

Yeah somebody posted that a couple of years back. We got a good laugh out of that one. Especially the numerous exhaust outlets. Why have the undertail and then go back and add the side exhaust? Doesn't make much sense.

But why would they? Didn't they use the V5 layout to get around the rules for bike weight per cylinder or something? I just don't see a mass produced V5 ever happening; maybe a new V4, but not a 5...
The undertail/right side doubling of the exhaust is odd, but if Honda actually made this bike I'd buy one. Gotta eliminate one of the exhausts, tho, plus the mirrors look useless. I know it's not a real bike for sale, but it's still cool looking. We can dream, right?

That's what I have been saying for years now! I worked my @$$ off to get that bike paid for in just over a year including mods and I'll be d@mn*d if I am going to plunk down more money on a new replacement bike. I'm riding my 2002 until the wheels fall off (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/dry.gif)
