Hey Gang,
I got PM already from someone who wants me to start planning some rides this season. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/smile.gif) I'm glad that the last rides were fun enough.
So, tell me, what kind of rides do you want this year? I 'm trying to get the kind of feedack that I can use to plan some different routes.
Since I am planning the rides and live in CT you can expect that all rides will start somewhere in CT. Last year we started them in Western CT. This year, we might try the MA side of CT and explore some of the roads up there.
Anyway, do you want site seeing rides with lots of stops? Do you want faster paced rides designed for the more experienced riders? Do you have a mileage limit that you like? Anyting else?
Feel free to post up your thoughts and I'll start putting my mind to something. If we are really lucky we can sometimes start getting serious about riding as early as mid March in New England. If that happens we will want to start planning stuff now.

PS: I put APril 28 on the VFRD calendar as our season opener. The weather should be fairly warm that day. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/smile.gif)

Good idea for a thread. The north east VFR guys have been way to quiet for the great roads we have up here. I'm up for a good mix of riding/sightseeing and touring. On a normal day of riding, I am very comfortable with 300 miles, but have done quite a few more with at/around 500-550 miles in a day (Of course, some slab and early morning riding was involved there.)
I really want to explore Vermont, Upper New Hampshire and Maine. I do enjoy NW Conn also. I believe a camping adventure might be in the mix also.
I have a feeling it's going to be a busy year, but riding is definitely in the plan.
i'm planning to do a few more NY rides this year, since everybody liked the last one.
Just gotta get my bike back together first, I don't think anyone wants to follow my stinky I4 CBR around... (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/wink.gif)

Pat, YES, the New England group has been far too quiet. While I know I probably wasn't I felt like I was the only one trying to plan stuff. I gotta give props to Manos, though. His MA run was the first one that I attended.
It has been my observation that doing much more than 150 miles in a single day with more than 3 bikes can be frustrating. The fuel/potty/food stops never seem to be in sync. What I did last year was kept a route in mind which I could easily add to or remove from as the day wore on. It seems to work out pretty well that way.
A friend of mine has a bike trailer so I could be game for some overnight stuff if I could trailer to a "base" spot. I rather dislike camping, though. I'd rather rest my bones on a mattress. :_

I try not to trailer much. The only times I've trailered were when I moved to Massachusetts from FL and when I drove out to South Dakota with my uncle and a few friends. If I'm around here, I ride as much as possible.
Normally it takes 150 miles just to get to a starting point for some of the rides I've been on. I have started a few around me that a few guys have ridden about the same.
If you do get the chance, save the weekend after Labor Day in Sept for WDGAH in NH/VT. Now that is an amazing gathering of VFR enthusiasts.
I think I'm riding down into the Carolinas and Tennessee in early - mid July sometime and then going down to Florida to see family and finally back home to Mass.
I'll keep my eyes open for whatever you have going and try my best to get to your rides.
I'm also going to do a few week night dinner gatherings again, also. That was a great, relaxed way of meeting people in the area. I am hoping that others pick restaurants that I could ride to after work, so I can enjoy their local treats.

Cool ideas, Pat. We have a great, great place for BBQ here in New Britain. And there are lots of other great food spots in CT, too.
As far as trailiering goes, I got used to trailering with off road motorcycles and with my rock-crawler. I've seen your bike and you definitely have it set up for doing longer distance rides.
I definitely want to get up into Canada this year and ride with some of our northern VFR guys. That would be a fantastic time.
Anyway, I already have 3 dates planned with another group and one planned here so it looks like I won't have a shortage of riding time this year. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/smile.gif)

PS: I most definitely plan to be at WDGAH.
I'll be riding the BRP and the Dragon with some guys from the New England Riders in July and probably some other rides throughout the year. I'll probably tag along with some others on S-T.N and have a few other rides with New England Sport Touring.
Ever since I have found these sites on the internet, I've had a great time talking/meeting/riding with everyone. What other groups do you ride with?
I have an account on STN but haven't been there in a while. I suppose I should check them out.
I don't ride as much as I like so setting up or tagging along on VFRD rides seems to be the way to go for me. I run a real estate investors group and we are going to try a few rides this season. That's about it.
Having sold my Marauder I'm hoping that I'll have more time to group ride. I also need to try to convince my wife to get back on.

I'd love to get south of the border for a few rides next summer to represent team Canada. It is easier for me to get to northern NY State, or Vermont. The earlier we know the dates the better for me. Already planning a ride down to the Deals Gap for a week in late July with my folks. I am also hoping to get up to the Parry Sound Sport Bike Rally in early July if it is happening this year. Just let me know when and where, and I will do my best to make it out.
I managed to get out for a ride this evening. Just rode some expressway ramps around the city, but it was good to get out on the bike in January. Takes the edge off the winter.

I'm supposed to be getting married at the end of May, but I'm totally down for June or any other month, really. Things'll be a little tight before then to spend much time organizing a group ride.

Alright, I'll see what I can put together. Should be fun to do. I'm hoping to have GPS capabilities before spring also, so I'll be able to upload GPS files and Streets and Trips files before then, too.

Amaricade is always the first full week in June. So we have a ways to go to get there. Lot's of time to make a plan. All I was thinking was an informal gathering and ride with anyone who is going to be there. But if there is enough interest we can put some heads together and come up with something a little bigger. Perhaps the FLAF can make an apperance ? I'm sure there's room for more signitures.
All the other ideas sound good too. If time and money allow I'd like to get to one of them. The closer we get to June things will start to take shape.

Sometimes that's all it takes.
I spoke with my friend who has family 10 minutes from the area. Hopefully I'll be able to make it up there for this event. I'll be sure to let you know if that's the case.

PS: I went riding today. I only put on about 30 miles but that was all time allowed. Still, 30 miles on Jan. 4??? Even one mile is a blessing this time of year.

Here's what you do: Pick all your favorite twisty roads out on a map, then play connect-the-dots with as little highway as possible. Include a gas stop at each end, and you're good to go! Try to make it last at least half a day, the other half will wither away with conversations, gassing up, eating, and bathroom breaks.
