Just came back from Sam's Club. They have a 13 pc Worksmith plier set for $18. A nice assortment or lineman, needle nose, channel locks, diagonals and a few more in there. It even comes with a handy dandy travel case. The quality looks pretty good. Not quite Snap-on, but you can't beat them for the price.

the tools alway break right after the truck leaves..forcing you to wait a week to get the new ones...

good tools are good to have! i will stick with MATCO....my tool man came to my house at 2 am to help me pick the right tools get my bike going because it had a very odd sized stuff..(a very old BSA)

i have 60 % of my tools from Snap-on and had no breakage other than their lousy 1/4 drive air ratchets. or if i did have a set of end cutters go dull, our Delta serving snap-on guy either had it with him or 3 days later. Not much experience from matco as he didnt last long. the biggest seller was Mac and have had great experience with their tools also.
being a cycletech , i use so many different tools in one day its crazy..
i have broke the phillips heads on a NEW screwdrivers..cracked sockets.. had 2 impact gun break...the hex bits warp...and so much more... i finally got so pissed off i sold $5000 in snap off junk for 3 grand ...
i have the same hex bits 5 years later!!!! as well as all the drivers.. i have never needed the matco man to replace at tool ..other than some diagonal cutter that got used every day for 4 1/2 years..

bad luck i guess. was a aircraft mechanic for delta airlines (hence 767 fixer) for 15 years and havent the troubles you experienced. i think the snap-on ratcheting screw drivers are gods gift to the world. i have since hung up the tool belt and have become a maintenance coordinator with a desk job.
