Going For A Ride Today.

I am planning to go for a ride on Palisades and Bare Mntn today around noon.

I know it is extremely short notice, but if someone wants to join me, post your reply.

I'll check back around 12PM.

I'm still waiting on parts, but have a great time for me!!

Well, it all looks good on paper, so to speak, but my F4i is awaiting a shipment of Ohlins springs (front and rear), and fork seals, the viffer is still in a semi-sorry state from my crash, the '83 is stripped to the frame at the moment, awaiting more restoration work, and the '85 is not currently registered/insured, and needs tires. The beemer-bike is dads... and he's got the keys.

Welcome to my world. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/rolleyes.gif) And you guys thought having one bike you couldn't ride in the winter was bad, LOL! I don't let anyone touch my bikes, workwise, so it takes a little longer to keep them all up to speed. This summer looks promising though!! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)

UNBELIEVABLE day! I got out a little late, but still got in 100 miles or so. The temperature hit 70 degrees today and destroyed the record high of 64 that was achieved over ninety years ago.

There were an amazing amount of bikes out today... I think I did notice a few "06" on people's license plates however.

I think I even saw a White Gen 6 ride by the house today, but don't know anyone with one in the area. I know the dealer in Greenfield had one for sale... wonder if someone finally bought it.

Is Al Gore right?? Maybe..... @70F in Jan I am willing to believe amlost anything!

Al Gore is wrong simply because he is Al Gore.

Hi all!

This my ride report and gear review from 1/6/07.

What can I say! The weather was perfect, as you know and I was giddy with excitement.
This was also the first chance for me to try out the new Sargent seat and the Etymotic ER6i headphones.
First, the Sargent seat:
The seat fit perfectly on the bike and it allowed me to complete the trip, about 150 miles, in perfect comfort.
I must say that it doesn't feel any more or less firm than stock, but the shape makes all the difference IMO. I could have gone another 150 miles with out a problem.
Etymotic ER6i headphones:
They fit fine deep in the ear canal and blocked out approx. 75% of all external sound. I could not hear the engine and the only sound that filtered through was the wind noise, which is quite loud in my rather crappy HJC helmet. However, this did not stop me from listening to music and I didn't even have to make it loud.
On my way back, I removed the headphones and rode for a couple of miles, after which I had to stop to put them back on. Having them in spoiled me pretty quick and I will probably never go back to riding on the highway w/o ear plugs of some sort.
The quality of sound is pretty good. The highs and the lows are clear, in other words, I am satisfied with these headphones.

Now, the ride itself.
It started out in my rather cramped garage.
The bike in the back is my 2001 Suzuki Katana. It is waiting for spring to either be sold or for my wife to take up riding... one can only hope (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/rolleyes.gif)

Tis is a view of New York harbor from Belt Parkway on my way to Manhattan. I suppose I should have included the Statue Of Libery, but, great photographer I am not (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/biggrin.gif)

Riding to GWB, I was challenged by a kid driving a new Porshe Carrera S (that's the one with twin turbos) off the traffic light.
The poor bastard didn't have a chance. I pulled so hard, that my front lifted a little and stayed in the air for about 200 feet. Needless to say, I was first to the next traffic light (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/laugh.gif)
Fast forward to the Palisades Parkway. It has always been my dream to ride the Palisades. However, I had never even dreamt of riding it in January (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/wheel.gif)
We may regret the global worming in the coming years, but for now, it is working out quite well indeed (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)
Ride down the Palisades was enjoyable and uneventful. My average speed was about 80 mph with a few stints to 135 (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/tongue.gif)

Never having been to Bare Mountain, I didn't even know htat there was a particular place of interest there. I had to follow some bikers to the summit.
Once there, I was greeted by a sight of probably 200 bikers all talking and mingling.

I got a number of compliments on the looks of the bike as a whole and on the "trick" swingarm.
On my way back down, I saw a nice little bridge over the Hudson below.
But something didn't feel right..... (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/dry.gif)

In conclusion, it was a great ride and a great memory.
The only thing that could have made it better is having a couple of you, party poopers, along for the ride (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/goofy.gif)
