Project Streetfighter...

hiya guys & gals!

I thought I'd put the bug in everyone's ears... (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/musik20.gif)

I'm looking for a project bike to surprise my hubby with for his 40th next December. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif) I've got 11 months to save and find a bike. I've got around $300 at the moment and am saving more and more as each week passes by.

Looking for something with a straight frame that needs quite a bit of TLC. He's always talked of wanting to make a streetfighter, so I have lots of options. And, I know he would dig most anything - with the exception of 90% of the cruisers out there.

I came close to thinking about this rough looker on ebay. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/blink.gif) (I feel so sad for that bike... it looks abused, neglected, and lonely. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/sad.gif) ) I was going to go for it if it stayed under $200.

So... if you see or hear of anything, would you mind passing it along my way??? I have access to free storing, so if I come across something good early it's not an issue. I figured the earlier I started looking, the better! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)

An excellent basis for a streetfighter would be a CBR9xx.

Lots of parts available for them and plenty of them have been 'fightered, so there's no lack of inspiration or ideas to follow up on.

Personally, I'd be looking for a '99 CBR900 (last year of the breed) and do a SSSA conversion on it.

Excellant advice. Stay with something that is fairly new, within 5 years or so. They are being crashed a lot by stunters and squids. Parts are out there and usually fairly cheap.

Also watch places like www.cyclesalvage.net . Good finds for streetfighters.

i have fightered a bunch of cbr900 rr very easy!
i have added vfr swingarms..under the seat exhuast , under the motor exhaust..duc 916 tail and seat.. gsxr tails

the big banger was a cbr xx motor stuffed into a 89 cbr600 frame...vfr ssa
mv copy tail..gsxr forks... ect,ect, and so forth!!!

Agreed with others... here's a photo of my old CBR929RR street fighter. I really wish I still had it now... it was such a hooligan machine!

I actually bought this bike new in 2000, then totalled in 2001. I bought it back from the insurance company, then invested about $1000 to get it back on the road... but it was mostly fun stuff... full M4 exhaust, Helibars, rearsets... also tail plastic, paint, tank, etc... then dropped a bunch in suspension, but that was totally optional.

vfrgal...you could go the suSUCKI way..gsxr..... but the motors are crap
there must be 20 or so blown up motor in my pals garage...all gsxr.

however!!!!! if you hubby like to (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/wheel.gif) skip the 900 and get a 600 ....the 900 will smoke the #3 rod due to a crappy oil pick up design....or shell out some bucks for some motorwork to relocate the pick up.
