Refurbished Garmin Streetpilots 2610/2720

I just picked up a refurbed Garmin Streetpilot 2610 for $349 yesterday. They also have the 2720 model for $449 as well. Both in limited supply, both come with City Nav software, both are touch screen operation.

The 2610 memory uses a CompactFlash card and they give you a small one (156 meg). I ordered a 2GB card and the Garmin mount with power/audio cord for $63 from Amazon. The 2GB card allows you to load the entire US in full detail, the mount and power cord enables you to have a locking mount to attach to a RAM mount and to power it off the bike's supply. (Neither has an on board battery like the Quest/2)

The 2720 memory uses Flash type and comes preloaded with the entire USA, so you don't need a bigger CF card. You will however need the Garmin mount w/ power cord. Approx. $28 at Amazon.

You'll also need to pick up a RAM mount or Techmount setup to mount the assembly to your bike. I went with CycleGadgets.com as they seemed the easiest to build the setup I wanted and pricing was roughly in the ballpark. Approx. $49 for all three pieces. The other sites come pre set and wouldn't work with my setup. Since I have the Scotts steering damper I can't use the fuel tank bolts, so I opted for the Clutch/Brake setup.

So, with the 2610 you can get in a real decent performing GPS for $462 while the 2720 will cost you $527. Not bad, and the cheapest I've seen so far...

Damn... they have the Zumo 550 for $699. I just paid $720 for mine.

I paid $369 with free shipping at TigerGPS for my 2610 and absolutely love it. Go out for a ride, get lost, and always find your way home.

Before I bought the GPS, I'd try to explore and always wind up in the same places, kind of like being in the twilight zone. Trying to follow maps was less than ideal because I always found myself stopping to get my bearings and invariably would take a wrong turn. Also, being a creature of habit, I'd always take the same routes where I knew I could find a few decent curves. Now when I ride, I simply look down at the Garmin whenever I cross an intersection to see if there are any interesting roads off my main route. It also shows me approaching curves, which is particularly nice when exploring new roads. GPS has made my riding much more enjoyable.

I LOVE it!!! I had the TomTom Rider and liked it alot... but the Zumo is better... more stuff and Garmin just seems to do a better job with the maps and software. They also just came out with the Zumo 450, which should be cheaper as it has a few less features.

GPS is the best mod ever =P I say that time and time again. Gratz Sondance.
