Looking For .85 - .90kg 43mm Fork Springs

Anyone have a set of springs for 43mm Honda forks in the .80-.90 range sitting around? I'm needing heavier springs to haul my fat butt around on my track bike(F4i).
New one's are only $100, but I a cheap bastige! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/tongue.gif)

Make your own! Heh cut the old ones. tell me how thick the wire is, how many coils, and the outside diameter (looking down from the top) is and I can calculate how much to cut off in inches! I got that stuff down boy!!! I knew my minor in mathmatics would pay off one day! you read my how to right??

Depends on whether you want a constant rate spring or progressive, whether you "messed" them up or not......... (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)

Yea, like I said in the how-to the number of coils is what determines the rate of the spring. The tight wound coils have less distance to travel before they bind so they are removed from the active number of coils once they touch and the spring rate then goes up. You are better off at the track having them all or most of them cut off from the tight wound side so that you have one spring rate through the entire travel of the fork so that you can dial in your damping settings more accuratly.

You probably already made the perfect track spring! Just have to torch the ends and grind them flat now!

I can probably make a little java calculator that calculates the spring rate. I already have it at the bottom of the microsoft excel file I attached to the how to post. That will precisely estimate the number of coils you need to get that spring rate you want. After cutting them you can verify the rate with a scale and a tape measure.

You just need to measure the
  • wire thickness,
  • the mean diameter of the coil looking at it from the top down ( center of the wire to center of the wire)
  • and the number of effective coils (coils not touching each other binding - or ground flat)



notice the measurements have no provison for tight winds or loose windings - cause it only matters when they touch! To find the mean diameter, just measure the outside diameter and subtract the wire thickness.
