Colour Coding Help

the guy who is painting my fairing is doing it again because when he did it last summer, the red was off . . . quite a bit.

So he had another part of the bike coded, and it came back with this colour code: R258 (tri-colour). He hasn't painted it yet, but I would like to know from one of you who has experience with the coding if this sounds right.

As for the R157, the computer says , 96 Honda. Of course, it relates to cars(it doesn't list motorcycle colours)

If needed, I can get the brand of paint they're using.

They are different. 157 is Italian Red, 258 is Winning Red. 157 is used for all red VFRs except for 05 I think, which is the 258.

My 02 is 157 and bags are 258. The 258 color is more orange where 157 is more red. Deeper, darker red.

I had a brand new fairing, and a brand new bottle of R157 paint to touch up the edges of where I drilled for frame sliders, and it wasn’t even close, it was much darker than the stock paint. If you do it and it does match better, make sure to report back here.

Ok, I just called Mike, my friend who owns the bodyshop, and he told me that having colours that don't match the code isn't as much a rarety as one might believe. Reasons being the layers of primer, clearcoat and basecoat might not be as well applied as they should. (sprayers out of adjustments, lazy Ito working on that shift).

Or maybe it is just what painters are saying, just like the computer guy says when you're bring your PC: "it's old", or the welder: "it's thin".

So you'er just doing pieces? It will never match perfectly. If that's what you're going for, (unfortunatly), best bet is do all the parts. P.M. me if you want the PPG code for r-157.

R157 = 96?

My 97 (and I beleive them to be the same to 96...) has R158P....

The mind boggles....

HA! Some of the names in there are kind of funny! "Matte Plutonium Silver Metallic" and "Uranus Purple"

I'd be more than happy, but unless it is beside another red bike, you notice anything . . . I think.
