Every year my buddy and I go to the Chicago Auto Show. The weekend that we are going there is a Cycle World International Motorcycle Show in Rosemont, IL. Anybody been to one of these shows? Any good?
I went to the one in NOVI, Michigan...I thought it was decent, nice BMW and ducati displays, 2 VFRs , the RWB and the burgandy ...I really want an APRILIA supermoto, is awesome and street legal but $8500 also KTM had some nice superdukes 950 , your local dealers will make your show a bit different from the rest, was crowded, seems pricey but its winter what are you going to do anyway? I got a chance to test fit my gerbings heated gear and it was spot on, so happy I got great ebay deals, remember buying a used bike just makes so much sense, get it for 60% of what someone buys it for new, the 2007s at this show I will buy in 2011, lol thanks Doug
I've been going to the Chicago cycle show for the past 5 years now. THe rosemont center is huge and makes a great motorcycle show. Last year It was so nice outside, Many motorcyclists brought their own bikes. If there is a local dealership, sometimes they have get tickets to give away to the motorcycle show. I got a free one last year from the Ducati/Aprilia/KTM/Suzuki dealership in Saukville, WI
Definitely worth the $12. And, the powers that decided to schedule both the motorcycle and auto show on the same weekend should be shot.
I've only missed one show in the last 7 years. Last year Killboy was there; it was pretty cool to meet him in person because he's a super nice guy. While I can always point out things that the show was lacking, I just thank my lucky stars that it was there.
The one in New York sucked. If you do not have a specific agenda to see something that you know will be there, don't waste the 12 bucks. BTW, New York show was $15... what gives? However, if you have to kill half a day, you may wana go anyway.
I went to the Washington D.C. show and it really was nothing to get excited about. It was $14 bucks for me and aside from getting to see the 1098 and a few other custom bike up close I would say it wasn't really worth it. Triumph didn't even come out. I really wanted to sit on the Speed Triple. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/sad.gif) There wasn't anything there really worth seeing that I couldn't already check out in a dealership.
i worked at the DC show...i sold caberg helmets...in one of the FEW booths that sold anything at the show... if you liker window shopping and seeing all the new bikes for 2007 and few others..like the worlds fastest motorcycle.. go ahead and walk off the bigmac you just had....
if you are looking to buy stuff, gear or whatever.. this is not the show for that...
The Chicago show has always had lots of dealers with plenty of opportunity to buy. Cyclegadgets, Iron Pony, and Chicago Cycle are a few of the major vendors that I can think of that were there last year.
The bike manufacturers and special show items will travel with the show. The vendors booths, however, are not identical at each show. Different venues draw different vendors. From my past experience, Chicago has drawn a lot of vendors booths with plenty of opportunities to buy stuff.

Although specifically this year I am going to buy some Givi stuff (I want to see it before I order it) I usually try to see all the smaller booths from stores like Cyclegadgets.com. I like to see all the little stuff that I don't find in magazines that I need but didn't know I needed. Last year I found a little holder for my I-Pass (the electronic thing for the tollbooths). Thats the stuff I like to see (besides obviously seeing all the new model bikes). Plus, just like most people, if I need something thats more than $100-ish (helmet, leathers, boots, luggage, etc) I can see it in person, and then find it (usually) for less on the internet. The Givi purchase I can get from several internet sites for about $400, So if I can do that at the show, I will buy it there and save shipping. If its a lot more, then I'll just order it when I get home. I found a discount that worked for me. If you buy tickets online, WRIF typed into the promo box will get you 2 tickets for $18. I think it works for any quantity of tickets; I bought 2 for me and my girl, who is being a good sport and going with me early on Friday (actually taking the afternoon off). Even if you just go to people watch (there is usually a good show) its not a bad way to spend an afternoon for $9.
