Mt. Greylock in Western Massachusetts (some of you know this place from the Tri-State FLAF ride hosted by The Big Sur) will be closed to traffic until 2009. Another great motorcycle destination temporarily taken away....
Until 2009? Yeesh. Must be one heck of a project the have planned there (no I didn't read the link). I guess you will just have to come south. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/cool.gif)
I live at the base of greylock. The two roads up are in HORRIBLE shape. They had paved the North Adams side in '91 (I remember that as they left loose paving stone at the Y of both roads. I subsequently low-sided my old ex500 on the paving stone).
Big Sur?! We have one on the left coast. Awesome. Haven't seen yours so I won't claim ours is better. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/goofy.gif)
You'll be looking forward to riding those roads again when they're repaved, I'm sure. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif) We had several good roads washed out 2 years ago by heavy rains, so I know the feeling. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/wink.gif)
The two roads in question are Rockwell Road and Notch Road (I live close to notch rd). Click on the link above and with panning you can 'travel' the two roads.
Here's a section of notch road that is REALLY fun, but super hairy now after 15+ years of frost heaves and washouts: ClickyClick
I went over this in the fall with the ford escape' and dodging the pot holes and frost heaves was nerve wracking, esp. in the hairpins (downhill with an automatic tranny).
Wow, that looks like fun. I wish they weren't closing the road, I would like to give it a run this year. Oh well. I just started exploring that area out there last year. Not a bad ride from Boston if I leave early enough in the morning.
