On David Silver's site there is a significant price drop for 05 red (Winning Red, R-258) bags compared to the 04 red (Italian Red, R-157) bags. Does anyone know the color difference between the two reds? Is it noticable? Does anyone have the red 05 bag/04 bike combo? Any pictures? I am thinking that a $350 savings has to be worth the mismatch in color.
Also, does anyone know if the 05 bags come with the mounting hardware from David Silver Spares?

The two reds are noticeably different when they're next to each other. Only you can say if it will bother you. All the hardware and mounts come in the box.
It appears that the '05 paint is light red (aka pink) and the '02-'04 is a nice deep red. I can only conclude that the red '02-'04's must be faster than the pink '05's. I just hope that putting pink saddlebags on my red '04 wouldn't slow it down.

I'd say the Italian red is more of a true red. Winning red is more of an orange hue to it.

Here's a side by side comparison that should answer your question.

Shipping for two saddlebags and a top-box from David Silver ran me about �100. So for just saddlebags, I'd say shipping would probably be about �60. At today's exchange rate, that would be $120 (USD).
I just received an e-mail quotation from DSS: I asked specifically about the R258 panniers (without the trunk). Here's the quote I received in GBP:
Yes the price is 175.00 GBP.
Shipping - 94.20 GBP.
Total - 269.20 GBP (USD530.32).
I live in Minneapolis (55337).
So, in my opinion, this is a great deal if your bike is an 05.
If it's an '04 and you want them to match, you'll need to factor in a couple hundred for a good paint job.

Should a good body shop be able to match the paint or will I need to buy the R157 from Honda? Has anyone painted their bags? I hope there aren't any horror stories!

You could always paint the bags black. That way there's no risk of getting a slighty different shade of red, it would be cheaper, and you could probably do it yourself.
If you paint yourself, the trick is you need some place with clean air. All the crap floating around in the air usually finds its way to wet paint.

That bike looks really nice with the repainted bags. I especially like the wheels. Makes it look like you're on white walls.

Yeah, those are reflective stripes that I added to the wheels. They looked good from about 10 feet away, but any closer and you would have seen how crooked they were. I took them off the wheels last summer. I'm planning on putting some orange stripes on instead, but this time being very careful to get them on straight.
