My local dealer has a used 2002 VFR that he took on trade. It has 101,000 miles from one owner, and according to the dealer it still runs like a top! He also said that if he can not sell it, he will use it for his own personal ride. The previous owner followed the maintenance schedule in the service manual and the only part failure was the stator.
The person who owned it used it for his primary transportation and is 59 years of age. The dealer did say that it was absolutely filthy when he brought it in. The owner was evidently not fond of washing the bike.

Because you can't (typically) do stunts in a car that result in the bike skipping off a curb and into a tree, totaling the vehicle. The bikes might last if the riders would let them. Why engineer a GSXR to last even 20,000 miles before needing a top end rebuild? It's a waste of engineering resources when looked at realistically.
VFR riders are typically more conscientious, responsible types that want and expect the bike to last a long time.
Case in point: While looking for a potential track bike, I saw an ad on CrashedToys.com yesterday for a (once) nice 2006 R6 with 12 miles on it. You think that kid's dad said, "I told ya so?"
That's pretty good, but I would guess that my 02 with 45k of Flogged/hammered/beat miles is at least equivalent to 100k of normal riding maybe more! Still haven't even checked the valves yet! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/tongue.gif)

I own an 04 Corolla and have seen more than a few posts about people wrecking their Corollas. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/tongue.gif) Still, since I am sitting at 26K on my VFR it's good to hear that washing is optional. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/goofy.gif)

That was Motorcyclist magazine. I kinda took it to mean that by the time anybody has put close to 20k miles on one of them, given the type of rider, it will probably have been down once or twice at a track or on the street. There are plenty of guys who are replacing their cbr/ninjas/etc. pretty much when the newest model comes out, and so there are plenty that have pretty low mileage in comparison. I don't think it was a testament to how long their motors could last. At least that's how I took it from their article.
As for the 101k, that's really good to hear. I guess I'll be able to hang on to mine for another 40 yrs at the pace I'm setting (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)
That guy was on his way to matching Stan Wilson's 1990 that had 440,000 on the first motor. He should have kept it. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)

my 02 has 73,000 miles runs great. I sold my 92 with 102,000 miles to buy my 02 I got $3,500 for my 92 paid $7,000 new. Had this bike for 10 years I miss it. 102,345 miles sold for $3,500 to get an 02.

Yep....it's Jay's bike. He lives not far from me. Ran in to him a couple of times but never did any riding with him. He says "I would rather lean it than clean it". (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/tongue.gif)

Don't know if he replaced it. I would expect to run across him this season if he's still into bikes.
I only met him once last year as we happened to stay at the same place one weekend. I've run across a lot of people that know him.
We got to know each other as well as can in a couple of days. He told me he only used "whatever kind of oil' the dealer put in for him, used 80-90 chain lube, had his valves adjusted per the book, never once washed or polished the bike and kept it outside in the weather, (looked like it), and he can ride like most of us can't.
He's a true gentleman, retired farmer, and obviously piles up the miles. He's the kind of guy that, if you can't like him, you don't like anyone.
Sure hope he stays on "the scene". Great guy and his bike did run very well. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)

Kinda surprised the guy traded it in instead of putting even more miles on it. Maybe he wanted to trade it in sooner but wanted to see the 100k on the odometer first and the extra 1k came quickly.
