Ran across this bike on craigslist, here locally so I went to go see it. It's a 2004 VFR ABS with 1400 miles (yes, 1400). It has silver fairing, but black tank, front fender and tail. The guy trying to sell it is 60 or so years old, had a few really nice bikes in his garage. The said he bought it new from dealership so it has year warranty. Apparently it was a photo shoot bike, which honda took around to various shows. They even used it as a 2005 model and just switched out the red color with the silver. On it's way to one show it tipped over onto other bikes so the tank had a dent. The guy who owns it bought a new black tank and then swapped out tail and front fender to match. Looks pretty cool IMO. Everything is super clean and the guy seems honest enough. I talked to a guy at the dealership who confirmed this guys story. What do you think? Does this sound like a legit deal at $7k?? The bike looks brand new. new bike
if you saw it and the story checks out, with only 1400 miles i think thats a pretty good price for a unique bike with a neat history (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)
My first instinct? If "Honda" knocked it over wouldn't "Honda" put an OEM silver tank on it? I'm guessing it fell over, he got a black tank on eBay cheap and painted the rest to match. I don't like story tellers. But in the realm of things, a tip over doesn't mean squat. It's a VFR with 1400 miles on it. The way I see it this bike has a solid 98,600 miles left to give! If you like the mismatched color scheme go ahead and buy it. I also like Throttlepimp's paint scheme idea.
PorradaVFR, Feb 15 2007, 07:39 PMSounds high for an 04 with admitted tip-over damage. I'd have that bike THOROUGHLY checked out to insure you're not buying other little "surprises".
This is my concern, but I talked to the dealership that sold it to him as new (and where I used to work btw) and they confirmed everything he said. They got it for cheap at a honda auction. Also it has a warranty till november. That makes me feel a little better about the purchase. The guy has only had the bike since last november.
If it checks out, I would buy it for the low miles and model. I am not crazy about the mix-matched paint, but that's a matter of taste... it's a great deal.

The seller has all of the OEM plastic, so it seems like an honest transaction to me, but what do I know (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/dry.gif)
Good price, low miles and it's under warranty, which is a whole lot more than you'll get from most private parties. If you like the color scheme, go for it! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/fing02.gif)
Unless it has hard bags I wouldnt give him over $6500.00 for it and that is still high to me...6k would be a deal. A friend got an 03 with sargent seat and full 3 factory hard bag setup with bar risers and only 4k miles for 6700.00 ... So there is my 2 cents
Seems just a tad high to me, too. $6,500 sounds fair for both parties, IMO. Naturally, lower than that starts to tilt in your favor. The price will probably rise as we get closer to Summer!
