Hello, I am looking to buy a 1999 red Vfr with 30000 km, the bike condition is excellent except the paint... The color is fading on the pink side. The guy told me that this is normal on that particular VFR color. Is that true? The red color was my first choice...

I have a 98 with ~20K miles and replace the front cowl and right side cowl after a low speed fall. The color match between the new and old is very good. The old panels are slightly faded but no so you would notice unless I pointed it out to you. In fact, you can only see it if you look very closely and in the right light where the new and old panels meet. So...I would not say that significant paint fade is normal.
I have a 99 with 30k (miles that is) on her, and she is still very bright red. I have not heard any severe fading issues either.

Agreed. Sounds like the bike was likely left outside a lot??
I bought mine the same way, it was from florida and was outside a lot. I think any bike will fade if it's in the sun that long. Keep looking if it bothers you, if not - PAINT THE BITCH!

Bikes should fare a little better, but sounds like the sun did a number on a paint job.

the other thing to consider is a crash/repair. Florida does not require you to reveal if the bike is salvaged title. But also the parking outside in the sun will also have an effect on the bike's finish

If left in the direct sunlight unprotected day after day any paint will fade...sounds like the owner didnt wash/wax his VFR very much.. my brothernlaw is a bodyman and he even keeps his ZX14 covered when it sits it his garage as he says to protect the paint from sunlight as it will fade a paints color over time...

It was a verry nice bike to ride, sharp handling and terrible sound... but after I got it, my wife stop to ride with me... (I dont know why!!!) so thats why I am looking forward another great bike.
Just bought my new ride, its a black one, hopefully that color will not fade rolleyes.gif
