Rumored V-4s

Hey guys motorcycledaily.com has a small writeup this morning on "new" Honda v-4s-take a look

maybe there will finally be some new models next year.

Honda may, could, might build a bunch of new street V4s, and I may, could, might buy a new Honda.

That article was far to vauge and void of references for me to get excited.

that rag is notorious for spreading gossip and rumors. I think it is the equivelant of the National Enquirer. I heard Britany spears tattoed a picture of Tommy Lee on her forhead and is pregnant with his child now.

Your right that would be freakin cool! But I prefer to wait a year or 2 when a new bike is released before I buy it...I figure let someone else go through the recalls and work out the bugs.

Honda also doesn’t seem to be in the business of doing anything innovative or new lately. They seem to be following everyone else and are always a year behind. Example, new 600rr: a nice bike, but I could have bought an R6 a year ago.

It seems they enjoy resting on their solid reliability reputation to sell a lot of street bikes.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with all of that. The new 600RR is very innovative and has much more usable power and torque that the r6. Sure the r6 has 2 or 3 more peak HP, but its power band is very narrow and peaky. The new RR has a much more powerful midrange and more linear power band than the r6. At 8000 RPM's, the RR has 10 more HP than the r6. And shaving 18lbs off of a bike in 1 year? I agree that Honda does have a tendancy to be more on the conservative side, but to say that the 07RR is not leading in innovation this year is not really an accurate reflection of all of the rave reviews and complete redesign of the bike...

FWIW, I've seen the dyno charts posted on 600RR.net that compared it with the r6 and other bikes from last year. I can provide a link if anyone wants me to dig it up. Most of the guys on that forum who have picked up an 07 and had a previous year are praising the bike vigorously over previous models.

Honda rules!

I haven't heard anyone compare the R6 to RR? The new ZX6R seems to be the main competition.

Oh and shit maybe in 2 years Yamaha will have a better one and Honda the year after....... that's called cycles if a new bike came out every year they would cost twice as much. Oh and a used RR will always be worth more than =age R6...

And were does Honda shine? on street and track, awesome.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy any first year Honda they have the best R&D, they never rush anything to market.

Gotta wonder about the VFR bashers (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/blink.gif) , taking them to the track etc. It shows how wicked it is that you can even take it to the track I guess.

CycleNews, in a recent issue that I don't have in front of me at the moment, mentioned that Honda will be running a 1K V4 in WSBK next year. You know what that means don't you?

It will be expensive?


We can be pretty sure it won't have gear-driven cams in street form, though. Honda will use the noise regulation excuse again, be we know it's really about cost. Cripes, I hear cars go past my house with power steering pumps that are louder than the gear drive!

Wait two years, Heck they'll have the new version out by then!

In the latest issue of Sport Rider, there is a large write up about the newly (last few years) developed Aprilla V4.
Different angle for pistons but a claimed 160+ hp, much more narrow profile and change in exhaust root. Looks way
cool. They only profile the engine though, no images or hints at any bike design.

I have yet to read the full article. I'll try to post a link if I can.

It's too bad that Honda doesn't listen to it's market segment more. The age old money over customer service.

Oh well, I've always loved the VFR for what it is and always will.

I can't resist. I've dug up the dyno chart that compares an 07 r6 and 07 600 RR of the 600rr.net forum. Looks very nice to me. It was a brand new 600RR that they were breaking in on the dyno. Why someone would want to break in a brand new bike on a dyno is beyond me. Never the less...

Actually, Honda addressed the noise issue with the release of the VF1000R a couple of years ago. There are two cam gears mated together by rubber that keeps the gears in constant contact at all time. My cam gears are all but completely silent.

Shhh--don't tell them! We like the sound! I bet they'll still go the cheap route, though by buying a CCT's from the lowest bidder and update the part every other year to let it extend more. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/pissed.gif)

+1. I am hesitant to buy ANY brand new vehicle, no matter who makes it.

Plus, of course, I won't be able to afford a new bike for quite awhile anyway, seeing as how I still owe a lot on my existing VFR!

They said it's a rumor, too. And the image is actually credited as an "illustration". It's a mixture of an RC211V and and RC212V. Back to the old wait and see again.

I posted a few days back about CycleNews mentioning that Honda would be fielding a 1K V4 in Superbike, here is the quote under the Eurofile section titled, "Robert's Next Project", in Issue #10, March 14, 2007, and written by Alan Cathcart:

"With only 150 bikes required to homologate the KR Honda for Superbike racing, and Ten Kate's proven expertise in tuning the engine, the Roberts connection could be a good way for Honda to cover all its bases in continuing to race the CBR1000"s existing inline-four motor under the Team KR flag, after their forthcoming 1000cc V-four makes its debut in the Superbike sector - reportedly at the end of this year."

The article is all about Roberts building a track bike based on his frame and possibly a Ten Kate CBR1000 engine.

Actually quite a few racers break their bikes in on the Dyno. Jeff, off the CBR list and cbr600rr.com, breaks his in on the dyno and says it's a hoot too watch the HP and Torque increase each run.
