Solo Rack And Fender Elims - Ready To Ship

I have received a lot of PM's from folks wanting to get in on the next "Group buy" of Fender eliminators and Solo Racks (Topbox brackets). Glad that the interest is high! (I don't want to be stuck with a bunch of bent steel..)

Tomorrow is the day I was told they would be ready, and I'll post up photos once I get them.

I ordered another 10 Solo Racks, and 20 Fender Eliminators.

The Solo Racks are $98.00 including UPS shipping (USD) - I need to know if you plan to use the GIVI V46 system - or the HONDA OEM topbox - before I can ship, as the OEM topbox requires spacers. This batch has been bent correctly - meaning I won't have to adjust them once I get them.

The Fender Elims (6 th Gen only) are $50.00 USD including Canada Post shipping. If you want the Fender Elim delivered to you more quickly please add $10.00 and I will UPS those as well.

I've heard from several folks that received the SOlo Racks and the Fender ELims - I'd love to see some photos of your bikes with them installed.

I already have the fender eliminator, but I am seriously thinking about hard luggage. I have a question in regard to the fender eliminator kit and mounting the luggage. Doesn't part of the luggage mount to the stock fender, and didn't you post a solution to this problem?

It seemed relevant to me somehow to this thread... maybe?

There'll definitely be pics of the setup when I get my topbox bracket. Out of curiosity, does the newer rendition of the bracket allow for the seat to be removed?

The Solo Rack allows removal of the seat - absolutely. I take mine off ALL THE TIME. SOrry - did you get a rack from me ? If so - it will alow the seat (even with the cowl attached) to come off.

SOlo Rack mounts to the Grab handles. I am not sure how the OEM side bags mount- but my David Silver Spares sidebags mount system attaches UNDER the grab handles - the Solo Rack attaches on TOP of the grab handles. YOu might have to get bolts that are a 1/4 inch (or so) longer.

DSS bags are OEM bags so it will work.

NOpe- but you do have to modify the metal brackets - I cut mine which allows the licence plate to be seen.

Couple pics of both the Solo Rack - and the Fender Eliminator.

THe Fender elim has slots to accept most license plate bolt hole patterns. THe Solo Rack only fits 6th Gen VFR's, but has bolt patterns for both the OEM Honda and GIVI V46 topbox base plates.

I'm picking up my new VFR this Friday and have been shopping for luggage and what not. How does your mount compare to the OEM mount? And I think this was answered, but will this and the FE work with the OEM side luggage?

Scroll up a few posts to see how the sidebags mount when using the Fender Elim.

As for the SOlo Rack - it works perfectly well with the sidebags - it attaches to the grab handles.

THanks to the couple members that scooped a couple pieces of bent steel from me last night - they are shipping out today!

TO help motivate a little more - I'll offer a package deal.... Its not a SCREAMING deal, but there isn't a lot of $ room in these to go much lower.

All I need is to just order the extra base plate. I can use the Generic mount right? Looks like I can just drill whatever holes I need in your plate.

Now, I need to figure out how to mount my OEM mounting plate (plastic platform that comes with OEM topboxes). Am I the first OEM guy to grab one of these, or might someone else have some insight? The bolt holes on the bracket don't seem to line up with anything on the plate. unsure.gif

I can field a couple of these for you.

First off, presently you need to buy the OEM rack AND the solo rack. The solo rack repositions the trunk over the pillion seat area. It changes the weight distribution of the bike and makes it so that people in large vehicles will be able to see your brake light more easily. I think Ken is working on making it so that if you want ONLY the OEM box and not the mounting hardware for it, that you won't need it; he'll have to give any definite information in that regard, though.

With the OEM topbox you can put the spare lock tumbler that came with your panniers on the box so that you only have to worry about one key. I don't think the GIVI case can accept the honda lock; I could be wrong about that.

GIVI's red is pretty damn close to the '04 red, but I think the general consensus is "not perfect."

Price includes shipping to Canada and the Cont USA.
RIght now - the cheaper choice is to get the Givi setup - as you won't need to purchase the intermediate plate plate that the OEM box requires.
Not sure on Givi colour matchedness - I have the #52 Maxia box - and its damn close in RED to my 02.
Hagios explained the weight re-distribution concept - it really makes a BIG difference.

Now - I need to ask for someones help - the HOnda OEM topbox system, is comprised of the topbox, the plastic base that the topbox attaches to, then the plastic base attaches to a metal flat plat e- in somewhat the shape of an X.

What I need is for someone to trace out that metal plate for me - as one of the guys that bought the Solo Rack from me doesn't have that plate and might have to order the whole damn rack - to get it. What I'd do is take the tracing to my laser cutter - and get one made for him to save him the cost of the whole rack system.

Can anybody help with this? Its a PITA to remove - but it is only 4 bolts. I need an actual scale tracing with all the holes etc.

I better say it before my good friends do - "Whats next Ken, a Wing?" - The answer is no - but I must admit that it is truly a long range tourer at them moment. And I LOVE IT!!!

I marked where I wanted the steel cut away - and had a buddy at a machine shop cut it for me. Its thick steel - a jigsaw with a steel blade might work also.

IT is not a tough install. Licence light disconnects and reconnects. Very easy mod.

PM me your email, and I'll email you the instruction sheet. - here - I copied them into this reply:

Fender Eliminator Installation Instructions:

1) Remove seat. Remove any items in the under seat storage area.

2) Unplug the license plate light wiring, and remove the two nuts attaching the license light to the plate holder.

3) Remove Fender. There are 4 bolts in the storage area on top of the fender, and 2 bolts on the underside of the fender going up into the storage area. Keep the 2 bolts from the under side, as you will require them to install this fender eliminator.

4) Attach the fender eliminator to the under side of the storage area, using the two large bolts that you removed when taking off the fender.

5) This next step is a major PAIN IN THE A$$......It is a tight fit in behind the fender eliminator. Thread the license light wiring through the centre hole in the fender eliminator, and then the license light will fit into the two holes for the mounting studs. Attach your license light to the fender eliminator plate (use blue loctite on the thread first) and use the supplied 2 nuts to attach the light to the fender eliminator. You may have to pull the fender eliminator forward a little � to get the supplied nuts to thread onto the studs of the license light.

6) Thread the license wires up through one of the open holes to the storage area. Re-attach light and check for connection by turning ignition on.

7) Attach License plate. As this fender eliminator is built to accommodate many sized license plates, there is a possibility that you may have to enlarge a hole on your existing plate to make it fit properly.

8) Enjoy.
