Spring is here and I have been riding almost every day and I have gotten several comments regarding my hard bags. When I bough my 02 back in May of 02 I ended up buying Corbin's beetle bags because Honda still hadn't started selling the OEM hard bags. I paid $799 for the bags in July of 02. Today, just for the heck of it, I checked Corbin's website. Those same bags go for $1699 now. I was floored. Does anyone else have Corbin's beetle bags for their sixth generation? Just wondering if anyone is actually paying $1699? Can't imagine they sell many at that cost given all the alternatives now on the market.
Also, for those who may have these bags, any comments, pro or con?
They gotta do something to pay the lawyer fees for the sparrow fiasco eh? No they priced themselves out of the market. Thats 12% of the value of a brand new bike? What are they thinking, abs plastic doesnt cost that much?
I just picked up a 97 with them and the smuggler solo. Both are very nice. Very well designed/made. Don't think I would plop down the $1700 but the fact they were on there already was the deciding factor in the purchase of the bike. Well that and the low milage 4400. Mine are fiberglass not ABS. Did they really go to ABS plastic and raise the price??
I just took a look at Corbin's web site. The $1699 price is listed for the 6th gen, but they say the bags are made of "fibertec". That's the same stuff they make seat bases out of...fiberglass or a very near relative. Major disclaimer as to paint matching OEM color.
IMO, they are pretty funky looking, especially from the rear.
Holy crap that a lot of money!!!!!!!! I bought mine about 3 years ago brand new off e-pay for $550 or something like that. At that time they were going for around $800. Shortly there after the prices raised to $1000. I really haven't checked on the prices since then. I like them a ton better on my 5th gen than I liked any other set of bags. I though the Givi's made the bike just look too wide and boxy. The Corbin's work well enough and match pretty decent. The worse part is loading and unloading on a trip. Taking the whole bag off and into the motel room like the Givi's would be nice.

Based on weight I always thought they made their seat pans from a mix of lead and iron.
Hah Hah, HS! Funny you should mention that, I actually saw one of those on the street today...it was bright green...spied it in my rearview mirrors as I shot up a hill...an LAPD cruiser was shadowing it at about 3 car lengtht as presumably they'd never seen one either blink.gif
At that price they're charging for the luggage, one wonders if Corbin is really interested in making them any more?
